🎤You get the bestttt of both worldssss🎤
(For those of you that aren't losers in their late twenties like our adoption counselor, The Best of Both Worlds was one of Hannah Montana's most popular songs...*cough* ... Anyway....) But really, Lukka is the best of both worlds! This fluffy cutie is energetic and outgoing, but loves to cuddle with his foster parents and follow them around the house. He spends his days going on walks, zooming around the yard, and napping on the couch. He would love to go to obedience training to further his education 🎓 and will need to make regular visits to the groomer to maintain his charming looks. 💈💇‍♂️ Lukka is also good in the car and very playful with other dogs. He is the perfect portable size at 20 pounds! Lily is one of the most affectionate, loveable cats we have seen. Lily adores her human family and purrs and rolls around for them. Look at the beautiful soft eyes she has for her foster mom. Lily is available for adoption and she wants to be your only pet, so she has you all to herself.

It’s a happy adoption day for Max!

Max (left) has been waiting for the right home for a few months. Last week, this wonderful family reached out about meeting him. They had previously adopted 2 seniors from us, but sadly one of them recently passed away. Even though they usually only adopt seniors, they kept coming back to Max’s sweet little face. After meeting Max, they knew it was meant to be! His new brother Harvey gave 2 paws up and now it’s official!

Congratulations Max and family! We are so happy you are finally home! ❤️

In Loving Memory of Daisy

Today, we lost a beautiful soul, Daisy. Though our GSDR team never had the chance to meet her personally, Daisy touched our hearts deeply. Her life was tragically cut short after she slipped her collar at a local Petco and bolted through the automatic doors.

Daisy's adventure took her across busy Route 28 in Salem, where many kind-hearted people tried to help, but her fear drove her to keep running. Our team worked tirelessly alongside her family, setting up traps and feeding stations, hoping to bring her home safely. Despite a few sightings and her family's efforts to catch a glimpse of her, Daisy remained elusive.

Last week, Daisy was spotted running along Routes 213 and 93. Early yesterday morning, she was seen again on Route 213. At 2:30 AM, she headed off the on-ramp of Route 93, somehow making her way back onto Route 93 South. Tragically, Daisy was struck by a car near the river bridge, close to the Dracut exit.

We are grateful to Heather for reporting what she believed to be Daisy. Without her report, we might not have had the closure we now have. Our heartfelt thanks also go to Renee Falardeau, the Animal Control Officer from Methuen, and Salem Animal Control Officer Bjarna O'Brien for their invaluable help over the past few days. We appreciate everyone who called in with sightings and shared our posts about Daisy.

Daisy, we are deeply sorry that we couldn't save you, but we take solace in knowing that you were loved. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time.

Rest in Peace, Daisy Girl. You will never be forgotten.

We are so excited to announce that Honey has been adopted!

Honey (right), now known as Jovie, is the newest member of a wonderful family who previously adopted from GDHS. Their other dog, Buddy, is named after Buddy the Elf from the movie 'Elf'. Jovie is Buddy's girlfriend in the movie. She also has another doggy brother named Toffee and a human brother and sister too!
Jovie’s family gave her a fun Gotcha Day party to celebrate how much they love her! She will have the best life!

Hi there! I'm Poco, your new buddy! Woof! I'm a 3-year-old Chihuahua Dachshund mix, full of energy and love! I'm happiest when I'm with people because being alone makes me a bit anxious and a bit barky. I get along great with some doggos but some just don’t click with me. I’d enjoy being the center of attention as your one and only or having a compatible dog friend. My friends say I've got this perfect mix of cuteness and judgy eyes. When I give you that look, you'll know exactly what I mean! Apartment life isn't really my thing because I tend to express myself vocally when left alone. Happy Adoption Day Allie!

Allie is a local girl who found herself in search of a family when her owner passed away. Luckily, a wonderful neighbor took her in and made sure she was taken care of. After the neighbor contacted us, we were able to get Allie to our vet to verify she was healthy and up-to-date on care. Today, another neighbor adopted Allie and brought her home. Recently retired, he knew Allie from the neighborhood and had a feeling they would be a great match. We are so thankful for this community stepping up to help a dog in need. As always, it takes a village!

Zoey has a relaxed demeanor, and she adjusted quickly to the routine of her foster family. Like most older dogs, all she wants is a soft place to lay her head, a big bowl of food, and the company of someone who loves her.
Zoey was recently surrendered when her family moved and couldn't take her with them. She had lived all her life with them, but she has transitioned into a new family/new life very well. At 12, she has a few medical issues, but nothing that cramps her style.💖
