Rescued Tails Animal Sanctuary Rescued Tails Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to caring for and finding homeless animals their forever homes.

Rescued Tails Animal Sanctuary is a small non-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to caring for homeless animals that find refuge in our organization. We promote positive people/animal relationships through our adoption program and advocate for the humane treatment of all animals, including the importance of spaying and neutering. Some of the animals that come to Rescued Tails are older,

sick or have suffered from severe neglect or cruelty. We value the life of each companion animal and provide a permanent safe haven for animals when possible. We also work to rehabilitate companion animals that need additional training and time and then place them in appropriate adoptive homes.

Rocco is getting ready for the 4th of July.
He would like to ask that everyone please keep your furry friends inside during the holiday.
The big bangs are super scary for most animals and even for some of our bravest military veterens. There are medications that can help our animal friends, such as an oromucosal gel called, Sileo. Contact your veterinarian to see what they suggest.
Rocco says, close the windows, turn up the TV and stay inside where it is safe!

Chyna was at the vet today for a recheck of her urine. She had completed her antibiotics to treat a UTI. We are happy to report that her urine is now infection free AND we are so proud of her! The vet was able to perform a cystocentesis (removing urine from the bladder with a needle) without any sedation injection - Chyna was awake the entire time and relaxed. Of course a little gabapentin helped, as you can see in the second photo. Thanks to everyone at Northern Lakes Veterinary Clinic Shell Lake and... good girl Chyna!!

One of our senior gals, Micki, enjoyed a long walk along the river. Not as much swimming like she used to, but more sniffing now. She looks pretty good for 14.5 years! Go Micki!!

Always giving treats
Going on long walks
Playing ball
Sharing the couch... and sometimes the bed
Being a comfort during the storm
Always putting up with our sh*t (literally and figuratively)
We woof you and will always look up to you...especially when you are eating!

Chyna is resting up after her big vet appointment today. She was such a good girl at the vet! Of course all that was done was... a free catch of her urine... but still, good girl, Chyna. Thanks to everyone at Northern Lakes Veterinary Clinic Shell Lake for taking such good care of her!

Meet Summer!
We are helping Summer's current owner find her a new home. This little nugget has some behavior issues (fear based) that require a special home and someone who will be dedicated to working with the veterinary behaviorist who has created a plan for Summer.
You can read all about this girl on her web page https://www.rescuedtails.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=21500867
For all inquiries on Summer please contact her owner, Marian, by sending an email to [email protected]

Rocco is looking out window (photo in comments) and is a bit concerned about severe weather so he thought this post would be good to share.

As the skies darken and the winds howl, it’s not just humans who feel the impact of severe weather. With calls for worse weather this afternoon and even some possible tornados, here are some helpful tips to keep your pets safe.

One of the first steps in preparing for a storm is to create a safe space for your pets. Choose an interior room in your home away from windows and doors where they can seek refuge from the noise and potential dangers of the storm. Make the area comfortable with familiar bedding, toys, and blankets to provide a sense of security. If thunder stresses your pets, turn on a TV or a radio with calming music to help drown out some of the sounds of the storm.

Pets can sense our emotions, so it’s crucial to remain calm and composed during a storm. Your reassuring presence can help alleviate their anxiety and provide them with the comfort they need. Speak to them in soothing tones and offer gentle petting to help them feel safe.

Offer distractions such as toys, treats, or interactive games to help divert your pet’s attention away from the storm. Engaging activities can help keep their minds occupied and lower their stress levels. Puzzle feeders or treat-dispensing toys can be particularly effective in keeping them entertained.

During severe weather, it’s essential to keep your pets indoors to ensure their safety. Even if they are used to being outdoors, the risks posed by strong winds, lightning, and flying debris are too great. Keep them inside until the storm has passed to prevent injury or loss.

Make sure your pets are wearing collars with up-to-date identification tags. In the event that they become separated from you during the storm, this will increase the chances of a safe return. Put all of your important pet documents into a weather safe container for if they are picked up. You don't want to be scrambling to find something that would reunite you with your furbaby!

Stay informed about weather updates and warnings issued by local authorities. This will allow you to take necessary precautions and make informed decisions about how to keep your pets safe during a storm. Being prepared is key to ensuring the well-being of both you and your pets. If you are advised to seek shelter, listen to the warnings of experts and follow their directions by putting you and your pets in a safe and secure location.

If your pets are showing signs of anxiety or fear during the storm, offer them comfort and reassurance. Sit with them, speak to them in soothing tones, and provide gentle strokes to help calm their nerves. Your presence can make all the difference in helping them feel secure.

As part of your storm preparedness plan, assemble an emergency kit for your pets. Include essentials such as food, water, medications, and any necessary supplies. Having a well-stocked kit will ensure that you’re ready to care for your pets in the event of a power outage or evacuation.

Severe weather can be a stressful time for both humans and pets alike. Remember, your pets rely on you for their well-being, so it’s essential to be prepared and attentive during bad weather. Stay safe, stay calm, and take care of each other.

Rocco has a PSA to share.
If you are thinking of giving a bunny as an Easter gift, please think about the following:

* Rabbits can live more than 10 yrs.
* Rabbits are very sensitive and are easily stressed - they are not toys.
* Rabbits need as much care as dogs and cats - they are not "low maintenance".
* Rabbits are very social animals and are usually happiest living with another rabbit and all should be spayed or neutered.
* Domestic rabbits cannot be released into the wild, they will die from starvation or predation.

Thousands of rabbits end up in shelters every year, especially after Easter.
Before bringing that adorable little bunny into your home please do your homework and make sure you know what you're hopping into.
And Rocco says to please remember -
don't shop... ADOPT.
