1834 Sanctuary We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) animal rescue farm in Indiana. It is our mission and sole focus to save

The sanctuary is located on an old farmstead that was established in 1834. The founding family, being all vegan, strive to inspire others about positive animal care and the importance of a plant-based lifestyle. With the creation of the nonprofit organization, the perfect opportunity was created to save as many animals as possible and educate the world.

We have a quickly approaching volunteer opportunity. We could use assistance picking up donations and possibly feeding the days of Nov 19 thru the 21st.
Having a truck would be helpful for picking up the donations. Please message our page if you would like to learn more.

All of us at 1834 Sanctuary are thankful for the produce donations that we receive. We happily accept fruits and vegetables that have not yet started to mold. As we head into fall, we will be looking for pumpkins and apples for the piggies!

*Please contact 1834 Sanctuary about drop off or pick up options if you have donations. 😊 🐖 ❤️

I couldn’t help but share this photo I caught last night. There’s no denying, Stitch is stunning! His coloring has only gotten more beautiful, as he has rounded past his first birthday, he has had a major growth spurt and is really getting stronger in his personality. He is our love able giant in training. 🐄

It has been pretty hot here the last couple of days so they are moving a little on the slower side. On cooler days this trio will follow me up and run down this hill over and over. First down is Trooper, the second-and most bouncy, is Lilo and the tail end is Stitch sauntering down at his own speed. Learn more about their story by following us on IG and Facebook!

Stitch always looks sleepy and subdued...until he decides its time to start some shenanigans! He shakes his head around and challenges Trooper for a romp. Trooper can still push him around and Stitch backs off pretty quickly. We’ll see if this changes when he’s 2 feet taller than Troop.

This day, one year ago at approximately 3:30 am, Lilo and Stitch arrived at 1834. Delivered by JAson with Destination Liberation. It was love at first site. The road was exhausting, and our hearts broke daily that being with us was what was saving their life, when all they wanted was to be with their momma’s.
They were tiny, unsure, and needed love and patience. We have watched them grow, get stronger, develop their personalities, and become healthy, confident and loved. Today, Stitch is taller than Trooper and Lilo loves a good cuddle!
They were spoiled with cookies made just for them and we played in the pasture in between the rain.
We wish we could have celebrated with all of our supporters and volunteers. Hopefully we can safely do that soon!

We are blessed to be able to celebrate with and for Pua and Clementine on this Mother’s Day! They both arrived to 1834 Sanctuary already pregnant. Their pregnancy and delivery was vastly different than those that live in misery in birthing stalls in standard farms.
Despite their different personalities they are both wonderful mothers!
Pua is on the left eating a snack with some of her children in the background. Clementine is on the right!

Happy Sunday from Clementine!
Clementine is our queen bee at 1834 Sanctuary. Yesterday was a good day for her. This is her happy walk and she was talking to me in her calm and happy voice.

Like the rest of the world, we have bunkered down and survived over the recent weeks. We are running low on items around the sanctuary. We are a non-profit, 501c3 All donations are tax deductible and will be used to help restock our food supplies, cover vet expenses for routine spring care, and to make some needed improvements for our residents.
We appreciate your continued support!

Continuing for with silly Saturday. Here are a few of the brahma chickens that help me prep food in the mornings. This is what it looks like when a hen shakes her head during a portrait photograph. These ladies always look so serious and regal, it’s hard to catch them being silly. I was lucky enough that today I did...or at least an image that looks silly.

Hello on this beautiful first Saturday in May! Trooper is feeling a little silly so we decided to do Silly Saturday and share some of our silly moments around 1834 Sanctuary.
Like the rest of the world, we have bunkered down and survived over the recent weeks. We are running low on our food supplies and would appreciate donations to help restock our food supplies, cover vet expenses for routine spring care and to make some needed improvements for our residents.
We appreciate your continued support!

Lilo and Stitch enjoy resting in the sun. They were saved from a dairy farm. Had they not found homes, they wouldn’t have made it to a week old. When we agreed to take a calf, we had planned on only taking one. We got the call that there were two currently on that farm. We quickly agreed to taking them both, and I couldn’t be happier. Not only was another life saved, but they get along so well with Trooper (Trooper can be seen resting in the background) and they will have a best friend to spend their days grazing with for always.
As a tribute to the names that were submitted to and voted on by our supporters, Lilo and Stitch are so fitting... Ohana means family, and that is exactly what we are!

Good morning again! Sharing photos of the beautiful beings we have fostered for the last month. We do not have long term space available, but we’re able to temporarily house them, and are now transporting them to their forever homes!
These beings were all purchased at auctions, pulled from their mothers, or discarded once they were deemed no longer useful. They have lived amongst death, abuse and extreme filth. They are uneasy with human contact and have a lot of healing to do. They have begun to learn that some humans can be trusted and we have faith they will complete their healing and live long healthy lives at their forever homes! ❤️

31/03/2020

Road Trip! We were able to provide foster care for two calves and two sheep that were pulled from a severe animal abuse case. They are 4 of 8 survivors from a total of 22 farm animals pulled from this case. The remaining were so unhealthy, they passed away within a week of being pulled from the horrible conditions they were found in.
Four mini-sheep have already been rehomed at Jenkins Forever Farm. The beautiful calves who have been affectionately called Bonnie and Clyde will be going to The Good Life Refuge, and the sheep, temporarily named Sir Buckingham and Lady Beth are going to Broken Shovels Farm Sanctuary!
We are honored to be able to foster these sweet souls and have a part in taking them to their forever homes of peaceful existence!
Send good vibes for safe travels! I’ll post pictures of these beauties soon!

Throwback Thursday! Take a look at precious baby DaVinci and Bell! They are still just as sweet today!

Bell and DaVinci have 4 other brothers and sisters. Their mother is Pua. Pua was one of the original 5 pigs we took in at 1834 Sanctuary. Both Pua and Clementine (the other female of the original 5) were both pregnant when we took them in.

Lilo and Stitch we’re actively helping in the quick volunteer day we had on Saturday! They may not have completed anything on the to-do list but they did follow us around and give support by asking for love! Stitch’s sleepy eyes and Lilo’s beautiful face are so easy to fall in love with!

This post has been lingering for over a week. It was a difficult one for me to process, because of the nature of chickens that have been genetically modified, it is highly likely that it will happen again as our hens endure stress on their bodies every day that they lay an egg.
Our beautiful and spirited Robin passed away two weeks ago. She was showing signs of distress. After working with my normal vet, it was advised to take her to Indianapolis to an avian specific vet. I made an appointment for the next day, but it was too late to help her. Robin had severe reproductive issues, specifically yolk peritonitis with several severe lacerations along the Gi tract. An extremely risky (risky for a healthy hen) and costly surgery may have slightly prolonged her life. If she survived the surgery, the likelihood of her having continued problems was also a high probability.
I was able to thank her for being a part of my life and she passed away in my arms being reminded how much she was loved. Rest well my sweet Robin.

We need volunteers to help with daily activities. All of these requests can be done on your own schedule (within reason) and do not require unsupervised contact with the animals!
We are looking for individuals that can commit to days through the week to perform the following tasks.
-Pick up donations from two locations, North and East and bring those to 1834.
-Prep food for morning or afternoon feedings.
-Load up recycling and take it to a nearby recycling drop off.
-Fill water buckets
-Clean chicken coop.

If any of these things sounds like something that we can count on you to help with, please let us know! We will assign you a quick training session and then get you scheduled to start helping!

Thank you!!!!

We have been slow on social media updates but that doesn’t mean things have been moving slow at 1834. With anything, there are always situations that arise. We are currently at an urgent visit to Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic of Indianapolis for one of our hens. We will provide more updates soon.

This beautiful eye belongs to our young pig friend Scarlet. At 1834 Sanctuary we have 13 piggie friends. We originally took in 5 from a neglect case and of those 5, the two females were pregnant. Our original 5 increased to 13 quickly. They are Willis, Agent P, Doofenshmirtz, Clementine (her babies Rex and Scarlet) and Pua (her babies Einstein, Darwin, DaVinci, Tesla, Bell and Curie).
All of our 13 pigs still need sponsors. Please consider PARTNERING with us by giving $10 to $50 per month to sponsor one of our beautiful creatures.
You can donate directly through Facebook or go to our website for other options. http://www.1834sanctuary.org/sponsor/

Trooper is a 3 1/2 year old Black Angus. He was born very small and was bottle fed, in hopes that he would regain some size and be returned to the herd. He did grow, but stayed fairly small. He was not useful to the farmer at this size so he was going to be sent to auction. The wonderful woman that bottle fed him found 1834 Sanctuary to take him instead.
Lilo and Stitch were both born on the same dairy farm. Stitch is a male born on a farm that only females have value. Lilo was more than likely born sterile (unable to become pregnant and not able to produce milk) or was just not needed at the time of her birth. They both would have been destroyed on their second day of life if Jason Bolalek had not made contact with the farmer. Because of his connection and determination we were able to save these babies from being so carelessly disposed of.

Trooper may get irritated with the calves but they have such a strong bond already. He tends to them often and this video shows just a little bit of that caring he engages in.

Trooper, Lilo and Stitch all need monthly sponsors! Consider becoming a Partner with 1834 Sanctuary today and help us give these three grass puppies the best life we can!

Good morning!!! Do you want to get some fresh air? Do you want to do a little physical work? Do you just want to spend time loving on pigs, cows or chickens? I will be working around the farm today and would love help or just some company. I will definitely be outside until around 1pm. If you want to come later than that, please message first to make sure I’m available.

Alright, real talk time! Running a sanctuary is expensive. We have to make tought decisions daily based on the funding that we have. That's why we are asking for monthly sponsors....although, we prefer to call PARTNERS. Partners cover more of what we feel you are doing. You are partnering with us in the ongoing care of the beautiful creatures that have been saved from a variety of terrible circumstances.

How do you become a partner? You sign up through a variety of methods to give a monthly donation starting at $10 per month and up. You set the total and can choose a specific farm resident to sponsor or just donate directly to 1834 Sanctuary's general funds.

Why do we need Partners?
Having a group of partners that are commited to the wellbeing and quality of life for our residents is paramont in keeping up with the continuous expenses of each resident and also allows us to make quick decisions in time of emergency. You become part of the extensive infrostructure of our sanctuary.

1834 Sanctuary Partners will be the first to receive updates about the sanctuary, and those that provide us with contact information will also receive cards from the farm resident you are sponsoring! Stay tuned for other possible perks to becoming an 1834 Sanctuary Partner!!

Donate today so that each of the beautiful beings are shown again they are supported and cared for. You can donate directly through facebook, choose the monthly donation button or go to our website and donate through Patreon or PayPal.

Not our normal type of post, ...but does anyone need or know anyone that could use manure compost?

We have manure at various stages of compost. Manure is a mix of cow, pig, and chicken manure, all combined with bedding and some lime powder.
Our pile is not at risk for w**d infestation.
All of our animals are fed a rich diet completed with a large assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables.
You will need to pick up and load.
