Chase 4 month German Shepard and Delilah 4 month German Pointer are my new students. Both are smart, willing to please and learning their lessons. So proud of their progress.

Mackenzie learning to Stand and Wait

24/03/2017

MacKenzie a rescue boxer is so lucky to have been adopted by this wonderful family.
Here she is learning to Take Hold and Give the training bell

22/03/2017

Ekko's first lesson today. This 4 month black Shepard began his lesson learning to sit and wait. Then stand and wait. He did not want to cooperate. After 15 minutes he did much better.
Next I began the process to teach him to heel. Pulling and sniffing is all he wanted to do BUT the rules are no pulling , lagging or sniffing and walking with his head by my left leg. He is a little challenging. I'm sure he will be better at his next lesson.

Trinity, 5 months. Preforming the back end of a retrieve. She is smart and cute.

I just received the below text from my client. At times it's been a struggle training her dog George. Our lesson plan has begun to click. Keep up the Good Dog Training.

A big moment with George today... as little as it may seem to others.... came back from our mini walk, asked George to go get his ball in the grass... bring it here... off he went and dropped it at my feet... waited for me to throw ... I cried like a proud mama bear!!!
Laughing

I can't thank you enough.. I really can't

Ryder. 3 year Portuguese Water Dog. Making progress regarding his apprehension. Teaching him to relax and develop confidence so at some point he will be able to socialize in a normal manner.

12/01/2017

I get calls from clients who have attended obedience classes that promote feeding treats as they train their dogs.
The calls I receive are people who realize this is not a good approach for them.
I teach obedience without the dog focused on the treat. I want the dog to be focused and be attentive on you. Eye contact is an important ingredient in the training process.
Most of the time I work and motivate the dogs with verbal encouragement, praise and petting.
There are certain exceptions where I motivate a dog with a treat but before they actually get the treat they must cooperate with the exercise being taught.
I would not promote feed training.

My new training client Bear. 6 month old puppy Is learning to respond to his name, come directly to and sit in front to accept praise as his reward.

01/07/2016

I was in Ramsey watching a couple of people training their dogs to walk properly using treats, feeding to keep their attention on the lesson while walking. Using treats will only keep their minds and motivation on the treats.

Very easy to do with treat motivated dogs. But it's not usually a reliable method.

Here is a short video clip of a pit mix who's attention was null, pulling and sniffing like there is no tomorrow and would not listen.

Working with my client teaching her dog to walk nicely in the neighborhood (without treats) was rewarding, successful and more reliable.

This is my Good Dog Obedience Training And Behavior Modification Methods.

13/03/2016

My new little student. Boomer a morkie 6 months.
2nd lesson. His unwanted behavior issues are chronic barking and always in motion. Never sits still.
Look how nice he is looking at me and sitting still.

25/02/2016

I train the little dogs too. Boo is learning to pay attention and to respond to commands and requests.

25/02/2016

When it rains there are no excuses. Tucker is trained. Below we are training inside Bank of America. Mini Recalls, Down/Wait. Then off to a covered sidewalk to focus on Heeling and Recalls.

21/02/2016

Tucker a three year old golden has never been on a lead. He lives with a wonderful loving family and ran loose in their fenced in yard. Great with children.

They are moving to NYC in 30 days and now Tucker is living with me to leash train and to teach him to listen and be confident in different locations.

He is smart, willing to learn and cooperative. Although noises and new areas makes him nervous, I am confident he will be ready to be a New Yorker.

21/02/2016

Spike on the left and Stella at the Glen Rock Park today had a great training lesson today. Temps in the mid 50's. Good to get them out.

08/01/2016

Kodi anticipates the "come" command and he also does not finish perfectly.

Marlene and I will be working Kodi to perfection. His training is clicking.

21/12/2015

Kodi has now graduated to off lead training. He is walking the neighborhood next to Marlene's scooter. We have been teaching Kodi his basic and advanced commands for only 2 months and his attention skills are much better. We are very impressed with his progress. He is becoming a true companion.

12/12/2015

Here is Dan and his black lab puppy Zoey. Dan wants his dog to be off lead on hikes. He also wants her to run off in the field then respond to her name when Dan calls her to come.
I began training basic obedience to Zoey and showed Dan how to start the process of teaching his dog to listen and respond.

As I began the process I do not use treats. I am not a typical treat trainer.

We have been training for several months and In the video below Dan is walking his dog, doing sharp turns, teaching Zoey to turn and follow Dan using voice phrases and commands.

He finishes with a recall exercise. There are minor distractions in the neighborhood that are challenging Zoey's attention.
She does well.

12/12/2015

Hazel 9 month Bernese Mountain Dog. I began training her at 4 months. She behaves much better for my clients. Here she is responding to her name and the come command. She finishes with a sit front position to accept praise.
She also heels, stands, lays, stays and rolls over off lead and on command.
Next week will be her last two lessons. Teaching basic obedience, eye contact and attention equals a well behaved dog in and out of the house.

16/10/2015

Kodi is a rescue German Shepard. Marlene contacted me because she needed help with Kodi. Marlene limited to a scooter was having trouble walking Kodi. He was pulling and was out of control with other dogs in the neighborhood.

After several sessions Kodi is doing much better on his walks. We are teaching him to be attentive to Marlene's requests and commands. Many months of training will be necessary but in three short weeks, Kodi has improved greatly.

This is why I love my profession.

17/09/2015

Oddie's first lesson. 2.5 year old. Now living with a loving family with children.

This dog was attacked trained in Florida. How unfortunate. He responds to all basic commands but is apprehensive and fearful.

My job is to build confidence and teach him to be happy while continuing a training program to respond willingly for love and praise.

02/09/2015
