We will be sharing some courtesy posts trying to help out some of our friends that also do rescue since we don’t have any ourselves right now.

This is Preacher and is at Crooked Creek Kennels in Kentwood, Louisiana. He is approximately 2-3 years old and was rescued from an abusive home. He was very malnourished when he entered into rescue but is doing great now. He’s dog friendly, very gentle and a little shy. He’s up to date on vaccines, currently on Trifexis and has been neutered. Have a DOGgone Happy Halloween!🎃 👻

Remember, dogs SHOULD NOT eat candy. Many candies contain ingredients that are toxic to dogs and those that are not toxic can cause stomach issues. Dark chocolate especially can make your dog very ill and can even be fatal. Trick or treat safely this evening and please be candy aware and keep away for your pets.

Meet sweet Roux, she is a Rottweiler mix. This poor girl had her bottom teeth removed and top teeth filed down so we are guessing her age to be around three. She is shy at first but warms up with a little time. Once she gets to know you she is very affectionate and playful! She was dumped in a rural area in pretty bad shape with a skin infection, emaciated and full of scars. We believe she was used as breeding stock (thus the teeth removed and scars). She has gained her weight and has gotten skin, body and spirit healthy. She is now looking for her forever home. She is good with other dogs and kids. She is more confident with another dog so we recommend a home with another dog.

Pup update to put a smile on your face to start your weekend!

This furry handsome guy is Harvey (originally named Hal) and was adopted from us in September 2018 after Hurricane Harvey. He is living his best life. He loves doing what all Shih Tzus do - cuddling, sleeping, and just being cute. Harvey is such a sweetheart and knows no strangers. His sister is a Rat Terrier and she trains with her human for marathons. Harvey thinks he is a runner too, he goes about 1/2 mile and heads home for a nap while his sister and human keep running. Although his energy runs out sooner, they tell him he is a good runner as to not hurt his feelings. So happy Harvey found his perfect home!🐾

Look how sweet this is! Millie was adopted from us in June of 2018 and became the baby of the family. Since then, a human baby was added to the family in January 2022. It didn’t take these to long to become best friends. Here is a picture that captures true unconditional love from the both of them. This sweet boy is Roen and is pictured with HIS Millie. Mille is an absolute gentle giant with him and Roen is so gentle with her! Hope this pictures makes you smile today. Pictures like this make what we do in rescue all worth it. 🐾💙

These two dogs were dumped together on a gravel road this weekend near one of our friend, Shelley’s home. She was able to catch them and give them food, water and shelter. They have been severely starved and neglected! The female Rottweiler seems to be older and has almost no teeth. The male Cur Mix is young, happy and extremely sweet! Shelley will continue to nurture them back to health and foster them. We will be taking them into the rescue and hope to have them healthy and up for adoption soon. Unfortunately they both need ALOT of groceries and TLC! If you’d like to help in their recovery please donate to Bark and Roll or SPAW via the Venmo that has been posted (swipe left to see them). The donations received will go toward their care. As always, we are all committed to giving our rescues the absolute best care so they have the best chance at having a normal loving life. We love getting updated pictures and information on our rescues we save and adopt out. We don’t know all the stories behind every rescue but most of the day, the conditions are not good. It warms our hearts to give these sweet pups a chance to find love and be loved. Here is an update we received this week!

“Feeling nostalgic this week as we look back at Bailey’s (Chipotle) baby photos and the possibility of getting her a new puppy companion. I realized I meant to send yall an update a long time ago. So enjoy these moments from this sassy little one’s life since adoption. She is now 6 with a human baby sibling on the way. She rules this house and everyone else here just lives to cuddle her. She recently lost her best friend/sister of 6 years to cancer so that has been hard. She is still just as sassy and spunky as the day we brought her home. She loves blueberries and hanging out with her other pup friends big and small. I hope these make someone smile as much as they do us. Thanks again for trusting us to love and take care so long ago.”

How about a cute picture of Kane and a little update! He will always be Kane to us but his humans have renamed him Millhouse. He is doing great in his new home and is so happy. He has a big yard to run around in and a few furry siblings to play with although we think Noodles is his favorite. He barks at his dad every morning when he gets up to leave for work. He and Noodles are running in the house like wild animals around 2:30 every morning. He has learned to use the dog door so now he has a highway for speed. We are so happy that the right fit came along for our sweet Kane, he deserved to have a fair chance at living a normal life surrounded by love. 🐾❤️

Wednesday’s pup update: Roxie was adopted from us about 5 years ago. The name fit her personality so perfectly that her adopters kept it. Her human said she is doing great and we they love her so so much. She has the BEST personality. Meeting her and adopting her was the best day of her human’s life.

We love hearing that. We try really hard to make sure our rescues and adopters are a good fit for one another and love receiving all the updates and pictures of our previous rescues. As we all here in Louisiana and other surrounding areas that are in the path of hurricane Francine prepare for the hurricane, please do not forget about our four legged furry family members. If you have an outside pet, please bring them inside. The wind and bad weather can be scary but also harmful and it is cruel to leave them outside during such a time. Let’s all be responsible and safe as hurricane Francine passes by.

Remember just the other day we did a courtesy post for Gertie? Well that sweet girl has been adopted and she fell in love with her new family at hello. We have gotten a few updates and pictures since being adopted and wanted you all to see the results of what rescue looks like. The big picture is the day she was adopted and the bottom picture was just yesterday! That picture right there is why we do what we do! In less than a month, Gertie went from living in a drainage pipe to now living her best life in a home with two children that all can grow up together.

Rescue is not easy, sometimes it’s very sad, every rescue has a different story (sometimes we know the story, most of the time we do not), a lot of times it takes patience, we do get attached quickly to almost every single rescue but seeing the happy endings that our rescues get the chance at having is the most rewarding thing for us. Every single one leaves paw prints on our hearts.❤️

Pup Update:

In September 2022, our great rescue helper Doug made a quick trip to Jennings to pick up this guy who became a new Bark And Roll Rescue Companions pup. He is a Great Pyrenees/Golden Doodle mix and at that time was ten months old. He had been left outside with no fence and free roam of everywhere. He came to us as a rescue but quickly turned into family. Mousse (his new name) is truly a one of a kind pup and belongs to our amazing leader of our rescue. He weighs in at around 100 pounds and is known as the gentle giant. He entertains himself for hours playing with all his toys, loving to dump out his toy box. He loves all his furry family members and is kindly protective of all of them. Mousse is also great with all the rescues we take in, helping to socialize them. Remember Kane? Well, he gained a lot of his confidence from his best friend Mousse. This big guy is living his best life now loving all the cuddles he can get.

Pickle is back. The adopter’s husband is facing some very serious uncertain health issues and they simply cannot keep her. They have made the right decision to return Pickle to us so she can find the perfect forever home for her. Pickle is 19 months old, dog friendly, house broken, spayed, chipped, heart worm negative and up to date on all vaccinations. She is available through Bark And Roll Rescue Companions. Gertie is now available for adoption through Dante’s Hope! What a transformation this beautiful girl has undergone! From being spotted as a stray, living in a drainage ditch culvert system, scared and skittish, avoiding people to becoming a happy and healthy girl in her foster home - thank you Doug Atkins.

Gertie is now spayed, up to date on all vaccines and microchipped. She is such a happy girl who is playful and does well with other dogs. She is almost fully housetrained and keeps her foster family entertained with her antics.

Due to her size and breed, certain adoption requirements are enforced to insure she has the right forever home. A fully fenced and secured yard along with large dog experience and the ability to actively exercise her to fit her needs is a must. Gertie is a young girl and has more growing to do, plus she is still underweight for her age and breed.

Angie & Millie are supporting their mom, Melanie with and are so excited about their new pumpkin peanut butter treats. Augie and Millie were both adopted from us as puppies and living their best lives and are loving their homemade treats. HAPPY ADOPTION DAY for our handsome guy Kane! We are so excited that Kane has found his FURever home. This sweet family adopt Chai (now Noodle) from us in the early part of 2023 and has now added Kane to their family. Our hearts are so happy for him and know how loved he is going to be with a shot at having some kind of normal life.

All dogs we rescue have their own story that we usually know nothing about. They tell us a lot by their behavior and Kane was obviously mistreated and had absolutely no trust in humans when we took him in. We have worked with him continuously and patiently for well over half the year to build up his trust and confidence. He has come a long way and know he will only continue to grow now that he has other furry siblings and loving humans to help him. All our rescues are special to us and deserve a chance but there are a few that leave paw prints embedded on our hearts and Kane is one of those.

Happy new life sweet guy and happy tail wagging, you now have a place to call home!❤️🐾 (We received the bottom picture lying on the couch not long after being adopted!)

Yesterday Tallulah Noodles celebrated her 5th birthday! She was adopted from us in 2018. Here is what her human had to say about her:

“She has the best personality, and keeps us laughing. She is a little thief lol. Her favorite thing to do is take your sock, shoe or her sister’s balls to get you to play chase. She loves car rides and long trips! She loves her fur baby sister NOLA but loves kitties more than anything so we adopted a kitty just for her. She is so loving and happy! She brings us so much joy and we are grateful for Bark and Roll Rescue. 💗 Thank you for all you do for these fur babies!”

Dogs absolutely remember! This is our amazing leader that devoted so much of her time nurturing JJ (Survi) back to a healthy weight and got him in a good place to be adopted. She ran into him yesterday at the groomers and they were both excited to see one another. JJ is thriving with his new human that absolutely loves and spoils him. We want to again thank everyone that took the time to share posts about JJ and donated to his care, you all played a part in allowing this handsome guy to have a chance at a wonderful life. I know many of you that follow us ask about him so we wanted to share this happy post & photo to brighten your day! A little patience and love can make a world of difference, it did for JJ (Survi)!❤️

Kane is still patiently waiting to find his FURever home. He has made tremendous progress with his trust issues and is coming out of his shyness shell more and more. He realizes he does love to be scratched/rubbed and slowly sneaks up on you in hopes of grabbing some of that attention. We’re so very happy to see how well Survi is doing BUT so sad that this incredibly sweet guy has not been adopted. Survi is our guy that was found all matted and underneath that nothing but skin and bones. So many of you donated to his care and just look at him now. We need your help again, help us find Survi a good home. He is around a year old and as you can see very happy and playful. He is very loyal and loves to cuddle too. Survi was left all alone and it’s a miracle he survived, he truly deserves to be loved and is ready to accept love. Survi Update

A little happiness and Survi update on this Wednesday morning. Survi has been checked out by the vet and didn’t have to be admitted to their hospital for any overnight stay. He only weighs in at 27 lbs and should be around 50-60 lbs. Blood work looked pretty good, he is heart worm negative, has a nasty ear infection and intestinal parasites. We will continue his feedings every 3-4 hours. He is on crate rest so he doesn’t burn too many calories as we start to build up his body mass. He is getting little potty breaks and crate snuggles every 2-3 hours after meals. We would like to thank everyone that has donated, sent checks, shared his story and prayed for Survi. You guys were able to cover his medical testing and current medicines. He still has a long way to go but on the right path now for sure. We have tried to thank each one of you personally so sorry if we missed a few. PayPal wouldn’t allow us to thank you in their app. You have restored our faith in humanity. Survi is a happy guy and along with us he wants to say thank you for your giving hearts, just look at that happy tail. We will continue to update on his progress throughout his journey. Update on our sweet Stevie!

We are partnering with Iberville Parish Shelter and Animal Control and Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter to help sweet Stevie. She was surrendered after the storm because her owners lost their home. Stevie is only 7 months old but has had a rough start. She is blind, has some neurological stuff going on as well as a systemic infection. We are hoping the infection is the cause of the neuro issues and not some sort of previous head trauma. If so once she finishes her multiple antibiotics she should show some improvements. This little girl’s recovery is going to be long and expensive but how could we say no to her sweet little face! Hopefully we can get in with a puppy neurologist next week to see what exactly is going on in that cute little head! We will try to share daily updates to keep everyone up to date on this darling girl!
