The days are flying by and in all of the craziness that is the day-to-day, I completely missed a HUGE milestone in PVS history.

October marked the 10 year anniversary since opening!!! 10 years since I decided to completely change the course of my career and start an integrative only practice. It has been a crazy ride these last 10 years but I wouldn’t change a thing. Thank you to all of my clients past and present that have allowed me, and trusted in me, to care for their horses and dogs all of these years. As well as my colleagues that have entrusted in me their patients and have helped the practice grow in ways I didn’t think possible. I look forward to the next 10!

Muscle mass is crucial to help support joints and maintain mobility. Just like people, our dogs tend to lose muscle mass as they get older. MYOS helps them rebuild that muscle mass. I am really loving this product for my older patients and patients who have had cruciate injuries and/or surgery. I even put my own 15yo dog on MYOS and his muscle mass has increased noticeably, he has been more spry and jumping on the couch.

FYI Northeast.

⚠️ We are seeing an increased number of Potomac Horse Fever (PHF) cases. Please consider boosting your horses if they have not been in the past 2 months. The vaccine does not have long lasting activity and may not prevent the disease but can help decrease symptoms.

🪰 PHF is transmitted by fresh water insects, not directly from horse to horse. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, colic, and laminitis. While early treatment can be successful, the disease is frequently fatal.

🐴 Fortunately this cutie responded very well to treatment and is recovering at home!

Dr. Natalie is headed to South Carolina next week to finish up her saddle fitting certification! The office will be closed Monday April 4th though Friday April 8th. Dr. Natalie is very excited to officially be able to offer this service to existing and new clients. Having a well fitting saddle is crucial for all riding horses. Having a well fitting saddle post chiropractic adjustment, acupuncture session or any body work, allows that treatment to work that much better.

The vast majority of dogs that Dr. Natalie treats are senior dogs. The Assisi Loop is recommended to every single one of their owners and the Assisi Loop Lounge is used during acupuncture sessions.
Here is a nice little article with testimonials from owners of senior dogs that use the Assisi Loop as part of their routine.

Dr. Natalie has safely returned from South Carolina and her second session of saddle fitting. This week, we assessed saddle fit on a few different horses both static and in motion with their riders. The best part was being able to completely convert a Wintec CAIR to a wool flocked saddle. We also learned how to drop panels in order to adjust or convert to wool flocking and how to sew them back together.

It was a very good week!

Thank you to all of our clients for a great 2021. We can’t wait to see what 2022 has in store for PVS!

Happy New Year!

As part of the second session of saddle fitting certification, Dr. Natalie will be converting a saddle to wool flocking. That being said, Dr. Natalie is looking for anyone with a Bates or Wintec saddle that is interested in converting it over to wool flocking. Your cost would be shipping only to South Carolina and back and must arrive by January 3rd.

Please PM the practice. First come, first serve.

Recent studies conducted by the Institute of Heart-Math provide a clue to explain the two-way ′′ healing ′′ that occurs when we're close to horses. According to researchers, the heart has an electromagnetic field larger than the brain: a magnetometer can measure the energy field of the heart that radiates from 2.4 meters to 3 meters around the human body. While this is certainly significant, perhaps more impressive than the electromagnetic field projected by the heart of a horse is five times larger than that of a human being (imagine an electromagnetic sphere around the horse) and it can influence straight into our own heart rate.

Horses are also likely to have what science has identified as a ′′ coherent ′′ heart rate (heart rate pattern) that explains why we can ′′ feel better ′′ when we're close to them. Studies have found a coherent heart pattern or HRV to be a solid measure of well-being and consistent with emotional states of calm and joy-that is, we exhibit such patterns when we feel positive emotions.
A coherent heart pattern is indicative of a system that can recover and adapt to stressful situations very efficiently. Many times, we just need to be in the presence of horses to feel a sense of well-being and peace. In fact, research shows that people experience many physiological benefits by interacting with horses, including lower blood pressure and heart rate, higher beta-endorphins (neurotransmitters acting as pain suppressors), decreased stress levels, decreased feelings of anger, hostility, tension and anxiety, better social working; and greater feelings of empowerment, confidence, patience and self-efficacy.~
