Oatmeal update!!!

Last week Oatmeal went in to see the amazing staff at Harmony Hill Animal Hospital. She has completed all 84 days of treatment for her FIP relapse followed by another 84 days of observation. She is officially discharged from the FIP program! We need to wait to see the bloodwork but she hasn’t had a seizure in almost six months so we’re hoping to start to SLOWLY wean her off the anti seizure meds. Although not perfect, her vision has returned! Her appetite is strong and her energy level is off the charts!

We are so grateful for all your support! This would never have been possible without our community!

One of the things I love most is seeing cats I’ve placed happy and healthy in their homes. Today I got the honor of visiting Minion.

Minion is a gorgeous guy who came down from New York. To say he was a challenge is an understatement. Although he could be very sweet when he wanted too, he could turn on you in a heartbeat. And he HATES all other animals. He carried some PTSD from life on the brutal streets, living in pain after being struck by a car and fighting for survival.

But we were lucky enough to find the perfect adopter for Minion. She is a widow and her dog had recently passed. She was concerned about getting another pet as she was going through treatment for breast cancer, which had matasticized. But the moment she saw Minion it was love at first sight. For both of them. I’ve never met two beings that needed each other more. So we gave it a shot.

There was a difficult but brief adjustment period. The adopter was patient and gave Minion the space he needed but was always there when he wanted snuggles. Over time they began to develop their own language and an unbreakable bond.

Now he’s thriving and she is surrounded by love and devotion during a time when she needs it most. Animals have a way of reading your heart sometimes.

He wasn’t thrilled about seeing me, but it makes me feel so happy to know he’s loved and cared for.

This is most likely the hardest thing I’ve ever had to write. I am deeply saddened to announce that Furever Home will be putting a halt on new intakes.

This was not an easy decision and one which is devastating to have to make. It’s difficult to put into words how much Furever Home means to all of us here and what a joy it was to be a part of. As a small, specialized group, we worked really hard to grow our rescue and make an impact with helping some of the most unfortunate kitties in dire situations. We will continue to take in those in that are currently on our wait list (promises were made and will be kept) but no new cats will be added. We will also continue to fully support our current fosters, adopters and kitties still awaiting adoption within our program.

To reiterate, we are not closing, just halting. We hope that as the dust settles, we will be able to resume operations.

Please accept our heartfelt gratitude to all the fosters, adopters, donors, volunteers and followers that have allowed us to turn Furever Home into the success it has become. Many of you have become close, dear friends over the years. We have loved meeting all the new people and working with other rescues and shelters. It has instilled a tremendous respect and appreciation for those that share our love of these incredibly deserving cats.

Our Board members are all thankful for the opportunity to have helped all the cats who have crossed our path. Every single one of them deserved the healthy, happy life that, as a village, you allowed us to give them. Although some may not have had the time we would have hoped for them, we are comforted knowing whatever time they had with us was the best we could provide. As we say over and over, life is fragile. Quality is more important than quantity.

We have two really amazing updates!

First of all, Salt and Snowflake have been adopted! Together! These adorable kittens are going to have an amazing life and we’re so happy for them and their new family!

But wait, it gets better! They’re joining Oatmeal and Ziggy! We’re so happy all these kitties are together. They’re going to have so much fun.

Which brings us to our second piece of amazing news. As you may recall, Oatmeal relapsed with FIP a while ago. Well, today marks the end of Oatmeal’s observation period! We still have a final set of bloodwork to do and a check out exam, but judging from her appetite and energy level we have little doubt this survivor has kicked it. She’s doing amazing!

Thank you to her wonderful adopters for caring for her during her treatments. You guys are amazing. And let’s not forget the incredible staff at Harmony Hill Animal Hospital for their exceptional knowledge of this disease and helping so many kitties get through this that wouldn’t have otherwise. Our hearts are so full right now!

Mouse update!

Mouse had his check up with the amazing staff at Harmony Hill Animal Hospital yesterday. He's doing so well and responding to the FIP treatment like a champ! We're 2/3 of the way through the medication period and hopes are really, really high! Bloodwork should be back shortly, but by all indications he's feeling fantastic!

He does have some sinus issues related to his "smooshy face syndrome" so he'll probably have respiratory issues for the rest of his life, but that's manageable. And honestly, what an adorable syndrome to have!

We can't thank you enough for all your support getting him through this. Our village really came through on this one!

Looking for an older FeLV companion cat? Square is your man! One of our fosters took in a hissy, spitting kitten who hated other cats. Square stepped in to teach the kitten how to play and enjoy life. He was gentle and patient, winning over the kitten with cuddles and cleaning. Now the kitten enjoys morning wrestling matches and loves having a big brother! Square is a sweet, curious, friendly boy that loves a good nap as much as he loves a (brief) WWF session. #adoptafelv
