Wanna read a good book?

BRING YOUR DOGS, chat with an author, have a beer – and benefit the Monterey Public Library, all at the same time!
-- Next Wednesday (11/30) two local authors will chat and sell their books, when Alvarado Street Brewery and Grill presents Brews for Books from 1-3 p.m. – and $1 from every book and each house-made draft beer sold will be donated to the MONTEREY P***C LIBRARY. Either book would make a great holiday gift – so bring your gift list, and your dogs!
-- In the dog-friendly back Beer Garden will be Tony Albano with his 3-legged dog, Brie, and his new book “LIFE IS A BUMPY ROAD – smoothed out by the people and dogs you meet along the way.” Tony, a host/waiter at Il Fornaio-Carmel for 20+ years, has been a New York hippie, a ‘60s musician, a deli owner, a Mets lover, and a lover of women. He loves animals, too, especially dogs. Then he lost a leg in a car accident and sunk into a 2-year deep depression until he met Brie, the lovable 3-legged canine: "she looked at me - right into my soul - and all was well." His book offers smiles in 28 short stories, for $10.
-- Inside the Brewery, Don Craghead will sign copies of his new fantasy book, “The Enchanted Emerald” - a romping tale about good and evil and the powerful role of two magic stones – an emerald for good, a ruby for evil. The book is listed as a young adult fantasy…but adults will love it, too … the magicians, gnarly mountain men, bar owners, attractive young girls and some delightful “weed people.” And locals may recognize that the magician’s castle sounds a lot like HEARST CASTLE, and the demolished book room resembles MONTEREY LIBRARY!
-- Alvarado St. Brewery is located at 426 Alvarado St. in downtown Monterey. For more information, call (831) 655- 2337 or visitwww.alvaradostreetbrewery.com.

Zack was a great help working with Tobi, our 11 month old Frenchie. Tobi was having issues with being fearful of strangers within our home (no fear outside the home). Zack brought a "stranger" friend with him to work with. Tobi also needs some help with his recall. Zack has such a great way about him in connecting with dogs (and their owners). He is gentle, compassionate, yet firm in his training style. He asks lots of questions and watches the dog's behavior and truly analyzes the situation to determine the best training approach. He customizes his training to the individual dog (and owner); not a one size fits all. He will give you the tools needed for you to reinforce the desired behaviors. Zack was great in customizing an approach that fits you and your dog's lifestyle. Tobi is already showing improvement, and I will be using his techniques to work with Tobi as he matures. Thanks Zack for all your help.

Wanna read a good book?

When: Saturday, May 21, 2016
What: Booksigning and smiles
Where: Whittakers, Carmel (Ocean Ave. near Dolores)
Time: 1-3 p.m.
Cost: Free
Contact: [email protected]
More info: Plan to enjoy meeting local author Tony Albano! Tony, a waiter/host at Carmel's Il Fornaio restaurant for 20 years, lost a leg and was deeply depressed - until he met Brie, a poodle who also was missing a leg and who “looked into my soul” -- then life got better!
-- Tony's new book is "LIFE IS A BUMPY ROAD, smoothed out by the people - and the dogs - you meet along the way." His 28 short stories tell about life in NY as a ‘60s hippy-musician, about a “man who had kind eyes,” about remembering the shampoo smell of a girl who rode on his bike handlebars, and much more! It will cause you to smile, and pause to think. He will have books to sign at the event. Great gift for someone who needs a smile! THANKS, Whittakers, for hosting this event!

Oh my god

Female Goofy Ear of the Day-Violet von Visel

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION

Violet von Visel is a beautiful 18 month old Shepherd mix who seems to be sending signals with her ears. We think she is saying, “I’m in this place with all new dogs and people, and I’m a little scared. The volunteers here are nice to me so I feel a little more confident each day. I get to go on walks and stay right next to my handler, and they say I did good when walking with two male dogs. I got scared, though, when we walked by a middle school and all the kids were yelling and running around. I’m really smart but haven’t had much training so far, so I know how to test the boundaries if I do not have an experienced handler. I like being in doggie playgroups – lots of variety – but I can be a little much for some dogs; it takes an easy-going, tolerant one to want to play with me. Please think of me as a loving girl wanting a calm, adult home who will bring out the magnificence (I can hardly pronounce that word) that they say is inside me"!
