Over 20 years ago I came home from college thinking I wasn't too into my major...was lost and unsure what to do I followed my passion with horses to working with my equine vet and became a vet tech!
Over the years I just started caring for pets who needed a little extra care as they may have been post-surgical or getting over an illness, so my knowledge gave those owners peace of mind when they had to be away!!
Well, how did we get the name HAPPY TRAILS, it was all because my late Aunt, when visiting, would sing the Roy Rogers song...Happy Trails...whenever I had to leave to go care for a horse in recovery or a small animal that needed that extra care!
BOOM, my first business cards came out from staples, and I was one of the first Professional Pet Sitters in our area...I took out liability insurance, created a reference sheet and started creating policies and contracts to protect both myself and my clients!!
After many years Solo, I realized it was too much responsibility on my own, and this all became a harsh reality when my youngest, Patrick, had a medical emergency!!
I will never forget leaving his side in the ER because I had to call 7 clients to let them know I wouldn't be able to walk their dogs that day...thank GOD no one was traveling, and the owners would come home a little earlier from work.... they were all amazing and many are still on the schedule to this day!!
The TEAM was born, and my first hire was Nicole, who has been our Team Manager the past two years after working with me many years prior!!

Charles Dickens is a very work driven Setter we got to take for two walks a day while his family traveled, and his grandma stayed with him!!
Being a working breed his fur mama knew he needed more to his day then just running around the yard!!
He enjoyed a mid-morning 45 min walk and a late afternoon 60 min walk to make sure he got his "Sniff Mail" all caught up and his endless energy was kept at bay!!

Walks are an amazing way to help keep senior pets healthy for as long as possible. Listen - we all know that our pets’ lives are unfairly short. And while we can’t prevent major disease or genetic challenges with a pill or hack, there are some things we can do to help them stay as happy and healthy as it is possible for them to be.
🧠 Regular walks are good for your dog’s brain! While this is true at any age, it is especially true for our senior dogs.
📋 The Dog Aging Project did a study that found that age was the leading factor of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (aka: Doggie Dementia). Quite surprisingly, of all the lifestyle factors tracked by the study - like breed, male/female, sterilization status, physical activity and others - the ONLY factor to seemingly influence a delay in dementia onset was physical activity.
‼️ In fact, sedentary seniors were 6.5 times more likely to have dementia than active seniors.
🥾🐾 The results suggest that keeping our senior dogs active is likely to be beneficial in keeping doggie dementia at bay.
