This is what Marilyn’s mom has to say about her:
“Hello, my name is Susan and we adopted this GORGEOUS pup in 11/23 and WOW what a gift she has been. She's very, VERY ADORABLE and she never meets a stranger, (and so far, that's a huge blessing)!
Everyone she meets, she has to shower them with love because they give her the same.
Her temperament is calm and she's very much a happy pup!!
As you can see by her pictures, she LOVES her life and I can't imagine how someone could let her go but we are BLESSED to have her as part of ours! Thanks for enjoying her pics and p.s. YES, SHE LOVES TO DRIVE!!!🐶”

Our precious Boots lost her lifelong companion, ZigZag, a few weeks ago. She is adjusting to her new normal, but we desperately want her in a forever home to spend the remainder of her days.

Boots is a spry 10-year-old and she loves attention! She seems to do well with calmer male dogs, but she absolutely can not be around cats.
Boots would do best in a calm environment with someone who is home a lot.

We really want our precious girl to have a true home life, so please consider adopting our sweet Boots.

We're excited to announce that the Humane Society of West Alabama has hired our first-ever executive director, Brian Gaerity. Brian brings a wealth of experience with nonprofits and will assist us with critical operations including fundraising, budgeting, and communications. Brian writes:

“I’m thrilled to join the Humane Society of West Alabama as it takes the next step in its 50-year evolution as a leader in the care and rehoming of abandoned, neglected and abused dogs and cats in our community. The volunteers, board of directors, donors, and other supporters do heroic work and I’m humbled to join their team. I’m looking forward to getting to know and working with the entire Humane Society family as we increase our capacity to care for our canine and feline friends and strengthen our partnerships with area rescue groups.

“I have had dogs and cats my entire life, and my wife and I are currently fostering a momma cat with four newborn kittens. We also have an indoor cat we rescued from the engine compartment of a car, and a dog we inherited from an aging relative. We’re already living the Humane Society mission, so this position is a natural fit!"

Frankie is a fun-loving, sweet boy that has severe anxiety and separation issues. He loves belly-rubs (his favorite!), other dogs (he enjoys time at doggy day camps) and loves the indoor/outdoor aspect of his kennel (he doesn’t like to feel/be confined).
To help him be successful, Frankie will have to go to a home with another dog, a doggie door, and a loving and understanding family.
Even though Frankie might come with a little bit more baggage and requirements than most pups, you will not find a more loving and loyal pup than our precious Frankie.

Meet Kona!🩵🐾

This sweet boy has the most gorgeous green eyes and a stunning black coat. Kona is unique in that he loves to play, but he is a little “wobbly.” He has some neurological issues that cause him to be unsteady on his feet. However, this does not stop him from running through the house and playing! Kona has the most light-hearted personality and gets along great with the other cats at the Adoption Center.

We’re so grateful our senior ladies, Pansy and Jean, have found each other after years of close-knit relationships with other cats.

Happy Tails to Max!🐾❤️

This precious boy had a really rough start, but his life turned around when he was rescued! Not only was he healed, but he found the most wonderful and loving forever family.

Here’s what his “mom” says about Max.
“We lost our beloved hound Archie to lymphoma in March of 2023. By October, my husband had decided it was time to reintroduce a furry presence to our home. I low-key thought he’d lost his mind. We had a 2 year old daughter (Gwen) and with baby brother Duncan on the way, our lives were complicated enough. We’d also had to rehome our other dog after he nipped Gwen, and I knew several other friends and colleagues who’d had to rehome dogs when a baby came along (Boba Fettch now lives with my father-in-law and they are the best of friends). But Archie was my husband’s dog before we started dating, and I felt the choice of when to get a new dog was his. He found Max on petfinder and we made arrangements to meet him. Max was about 2, and had been in foster care for months. That meant that he had already been house trained and crate trained, and while he still has plenty of energy, he isn’t as unbridled as a genuine puppy. We did a week-long trial adoption and all my concerns were alleviated. After about two days I was comfortable leaving him alone with my daughter, which still boggles my mind. He is the sweetest, most loving dog either of us has ever had the pleasure of knowing. He is so patient and tolerant with Gwen when she wants to play with his muzzle or tug on his ears. They have become inseparable. He sleeps in her bed nightly, and when strangers speak to her in a store or at a playground she will loudly announce, unprompted, “Our doggy name Max!” I am so thankful to the Humane Society of West Alabama for bringing Max into our home, and eagerly await all the memories Gwen and Duncan will make with him as they grow.”

We are so thankful for Max’s family for giving him the BEST home!

Our sweet Riggs is back with us…please read what his heartbroken adopter said about this precious boy. 🥹

“Riggs is one of the best dogs I have ever known. He is sweet, playful, and smart. He wanted so badly to be friends with our current dog. The only reason we were unable to keep him is because our current dog couldn't adjust to sharing the house, no matter how hard we tried. We were worried about him getting hurt, otherwise we would have kept him and worked through it.
Riggs is a one of a kind dog, and I am shocked he hasn't found a home. He is the sweetest dog, and always wants to play. He would do wonderfully in a home with other dogs, as he is always trying to make friends. He loves toys and responds really well to training, especially when treats are involved.
My heart breaks that we were not Riggs’ forever home, but I want to help him find it. I am happy to sponsor Riggs and cover his adoption fee for the family that will take him in. He deserves a place to call home. You will never find a sweeter dog than this boy.”
