Hi! My name is Brianne, we met at Super Zoo and we spoke about your new flex it brushes! I already owned one of the purple/red single combo brushes I got at Groomers Choice when they were first released and came by to get the silver/red double combo brush at Super Zoo! I love these brushes so much and I can’t say enough good things about them. They truly cut my brushing time in half, and I’m not exerting as much force and pressure on my wrist with the flex head technology. You’ve truly created a revolutionary and time saving products for us Groomer’s!! I really want to start recommending these brushes to my clients but at super zoo you mentioned that you’d probably not recommend the hard flex brushes to pet parents due to the chances of them giving their pets brush burn. I have lots of Doodle clients that struggle with matted coats, what brush would you recommend for them? And I also have a few clients with Samoyed’s that have lots of undercoat to remove and one with a Great Pyrenees, I know you had said you had your Great Pyrenees that you take to the beach everyday and have tons of sand to brush out and it looks like you brought the beach home with you! I just want to ensure my clients don’t cause damage to their dogs skin by patting to hard with the brush.

Education is paramount. Here is a letter I wrote for understanding and the proper way to use the Flexit brushes.
An Open letter to Professional Pet Groomers and Pet Owners,
With every new tool in your kit there is a learning curve, and the new generation of flexible- head brushes from FlexIt® are no exception. Just like any upgrade, once you have mastered it the results are impressive, but you might break a few eggs along the way.
First let me say brushes do not cause brush burns but brushers do. You can cause brush burn by aggressively using a horsehair brush.

I remember shop class when my teacher said, “There is a proper tool for every job and a correct way of using them.” Well, now there is a proper brush for every job, and it is no surprise that there is a correct way of using them as well.

1.The Red (Red for Emergency) Matt Zapper will de-mat a dog in half the time of any other brush used correctly, but it is used exclusively for de-matting and nothing else.

2. The Purple Firm Flex Finish Brush is just that …. a finishing brush for heavy coarse coats. It makes the coat flow.

3. The Green Soft Flex Brush is a Finishing Brush for softer and silky coats and can be used in sensitive areas like behind the ears and in sanitary areas carefully.

4. The Silver Undercoater is a Firm Flex with longer tines and shorter hooks to get past the topcoat down to the undercoat. It will undercoat a double coated dog in half the time and effort of any other brush used correctly.

5. The Gold Undercoater is for softer coats like Pomeranians.
Taking your brushing efficiency up to the next level with these tools requires a little “re-tooling” in your brain as well, but in this case, it is as easy as “Tap-and-Pull”. Get used to that term, because it is your answer to 50% less brushing time, and a huge reduction of stress on your wrist and forearm. “Tap-and-Pull”. Do you realize why most slicker brushes are curved? It is because they want you to use your wrist to curve away from the skin so as not to cause brush burn. With FlexIt®, it is the brush that does the bending, NOT your wrist.

Flexit® brushes are made to de-mat, undercoat and finish heavy, thick long coated dogs. They will cut your brushing effort and time in half, but you must understand that they are very aggressive brushes where the brush itself creates a “spring-like” pressure on the pins, so you do not have to. With FlexIt®, you do not have to exert heavy pressure like you do with static non-flex head brushes.

If you do use them like your static non-flex head brushes, you may cause brush burn especially if you are raking the coat and touching the skin. We do not rake with a FlexIt® brush. we “Tap-and-Pull”.

There are also more pins on these brushes than any other brush on the market. 232 pin heads per pad so a double headed brush has 464 pin heads per face. We do blunt the pins and take any sharp edges off each individual pinhead, but that does not mean you cannot hurt yourself or a pet using them carelessly or incorrectly. The true key is a light hand not a forceful aggressive hand. Adjust for the new brush; you almost want to cradle it as opposed to clench it, and then…... “Tap-and-Pull”.

FlexIt® brushes are not for short haired dogs. On fully coated dogs you should be very careful behind the ears, under the arm and in the sanitary area. DO NOT RAKE THE COAT IN A STRAIGHT DOWNWARD, SIDEWAYS OR UPWARD MOTION! The technique is “Tap and Pull”, in the direction of the bottom of the handle, and away from the skin.
Static or non-flex head slicker brushes have been around for a long time and groomers are used to using these brushes aggressively with their wrist action to get the job done. Do not use these Flex Head brushes like them. There is no need to. Use a lighter hand and let the brush do the work.

These brushes work and cut your brushing time and effort in half when USED CORRECTLY. I have heard from some friends that are veteran groomers that started using these brushes aggressively like their static brushes, and then modified their technique after seeing how they perform. If you are raking the skin of the dog or your own hands or fingers, this is your sign that you are using these brushes the wrong way.

I have had a grooming shop in business for 39 years and our groomers have been using the original Les Pooches which were made by Activet® and the Activet® brushes and now the Flexit® brushes. They do not rake their fingers and cause brush burn because they are familiar with the proper technique of using these types of brushes. We have done videos on their proper use especially de-matting ears, tails, under the arms, the hocks and in the sanitary area. These are the most vulnerable and sensitive areas which are the most difficult procedures with just one brush type, but they are easy to master if you take your time and use finesse.
There is a proper technique for every brushing area especially the tender easiest to tear most vulnerable areas.

Please be careful with these brushes and if you are going to recommend them to your clients that are not professionals. You must teach them proper techniques for use on their dogs. Remember…. “Tap and Pull” away from the skin.

My wife says I should not be so long winded, but I think these directions for proper use are important. I do not want anyone using these brushes incorrectly and hurting themselves or a pet.
