Kane’s Shelter Diary: Entry 2
"Yesterday, I saw another dog leave with their new family. I sat in my kennel, wagging my tail at the people passing by, but no one stopped for me. I tried not to let it hurt, but it did.
The shelter staff tell me I’m special. They say I’m smart, and they’re helping me learn new things every day—teaching me to sit, wait, and more so I’ll be the best boy for my new home. I just need the right person—someone who will give me the time to trust, the space to adjust, and the love I’ve been missing. I want to believe them. I want to believe my person is out there.
I don’t need much—just someone who will see me, really see me. Someone who will understand that I may take a little time, but when I love, I love with my whole heart. I’d be happiest as the only pet, not because I don’t want friends, but because I need a fresh start with someone who can help me feel safe.
Please, if you’re reading this, consider giving me a chance. I’m still waiting."

We see so many wonderful dogs come through HSoMC, and Avast is no exception. After arriving from Detroit Animal Care and Control, he’s been nothing but a bundle of love, tail wags, and pure happiness!
From the moment you walk by, this sweet boy’s tail starts going a mile a minute! 🥹🐶 At just three years old, Avast is the definition of a lovebug—he lives for snuggles, belly rubs, and just being near people. He’s got the happiest smile, the softest heart, and is patiently waiting for his person to walk through the door.
Come meet Avast today and see why we’re all so in love! We are open from noon-7pm

Kane’s Shelter Diary: Entry 1
Kane is breaking. 💔 We watch it happen every day—the excitement, the hope, the wagging tail… slowly fading. Kane has been waiting for months for someone to see him, to choose him, and love him. Watching as other dogs leave with their new families while he stays behind. At first, he was hopeful—tail wagging, eyes bright, eager to meet anyone who stopped by. But as the days pass, we see the change. The stress is wearing him down. He’s sad, frustrated, and losing hope.
Kane is a smart, playful dog who just wants a chance. He thrives with structure, loves learning new things, and would be the perfect adventure buddy for someone willing to give him the time he deserves. But shelter life isn’t easy, and he needs out soon.
If you’ve been thinking about adopting, please consider Kane. He’s been waiting way too long for his shot at happiness.

Thrifty Thursday: Meet Holly! 🐾 Holly is a beautiful, shy girl looking for a home that understands her need for space and patience. She came to us from Saginaw County in hopes of finding the perfect fit. While she’s still nervous in the shelter, she has a gentle side and loves spending her days perched by a window, watching the world go by.
Holly may do well as an indoor-outdoor cat or even a barn cat, where she can enjoy the freedom she craves while still having a safe place to call home. She’s spayed, around 4 years old, and ready to start her next chapter.
🐱 Thrifty Thursday Special: All cat adoption fees are half off today! If you’ve been thinking about adopting, now is the perfect time. Visit us at 4371 E. Ashman St., Midland we are open today from noon-7pm.
