We are a day lateβ¦but letβs be honest, National Dog Day is every day! We are lucky to meet some amazing pups and have our hearts open to such amazing love. Share your dogs below in the comments that you celebrate National Dog Day withβ¦every day! π
Happy National Dog Day to a breed that we love and hope we can continue to make a difference and help those that need us. π
Let us introduce you to some puppies! First before we go into details let us start by saying these adorable babies are NOT available for adoption just yet. We are currently working through their medical needs. A few of them came with some nasty parasites and bugs. We have to get them up to date on vaccines and when the time comes spay and neuter them.
Taking five puppies on as a rescue is an expensive adventure. Each puppy will cost the rescue around $1000 a piece. We could use some help. If you are able to donate any amount would help. You can make a donation through our website. When you do make sure to note that it is for the puppies.
As we get to know these sweet babies we will post highlights on each. Can anyone guess where their names came from?!? π If you know it post it in the comments below!
As always please share, like and comment on this post to help us spread the word.
https://foreverfriendsgdri.com/donate/
We have some new pups in the house! We are excited to share more but for now they are getting comfy and for some continuing their medical treatments. We are not accepting applications just yet but will share more about these sweet pups soon!
As always a big π

Hi, I am Tesla. I came into rescue when my family couldnβt afford the surgery I needed. I had a blockage in my stomach. It was full of leaves and sticks. The kind vet who took me in did surgery to clean out my stomach, then she tacked it and spayed me. The vet then called FFGDRI and here I am looking for a new home.
I am 2 yrs old. My foster mom calls me a pocket Dane. I am not sure what that means but I weigh 93lbs. I am good with other large dogs and cats. I love to run, chase, and play tug with my foster siblings. They are Danes too but much bigger. It doesnβt stop me. I am brave. I would do well to have other fur siblings in my new home. I am good in my crate when she goes to work and I sleep on a dog bed all night free in the house when my foster family is home. Do you need a new friend? I canβt wait to find my forever home.

May the Force Be with You Always! Do you have a Dane or pup with Yoda Ears?!? This is FFGDR Alum Tilly showing off her ears. It is uncanny the similarities π Share a picture in the comments of your Yoda Ears. π
Will you consider opening your home to a pup in need? If you follow other rescues and shelters you know that most are full and it is a constant rotation of dogs and cats in need. This situation is a sad one that is found all over the country. We are in desperate need of foster homes. Since we do not have a physical building we rely on people like you to open your homes to help find forever homes for great danes. We are getting daily requests for surrenders and from pups found on the streets.
If you think you might want to help or become a foster home please reach out to us or go to our website for more information and to fill out an application. If you have questions or would like to chat with one of our volunteers please reach out to us through direct messages. Here is a message from one of our current foster homes:
"People often say to me, 'I couldn't foster. I'd want to keep them all and it'd be too sad.' Well, that's all true in my experience. I've shed a few tears and been sad to see them leave my home. But it is exceptionally rewarding and heartwarming to see them with their new family who loves them just as much, and probably more, than I do. I also get to really love a lot of dogs this way." -Alicia B. Current foster Mom to Delilah

Hi everyone,
Apollo here, just wanted to say hi to everyone!!!! Iβm a 9 month old puppy, and came into my foster dadβs house with very few rules. Heβs getting me to behave better and I donβt bark at leaves blowing through the yard any more, but I will let you (and anyone close by) know if someone is walking in front of my house. Iβm also not great on a leash yet, so Iβd probably do best in a single family home with a fenced in backyard. Iβve met the neighbors 6yr old daughter and sheβs fun and we get along, but if I get super excited Iβd totally bowl her over and win $100,000 on Americanβs Funniest Home Videos. So I just need to be supervised around the little ones.
I live in a house with 3 other dogs ranging from a Frenchie up to another Great Dane and we all get along, sometimes my craziness will earn a growl or bark from another doggo and I back off, but I love getting in the backyard and running, jumping, sniffing around and using up some energy. Dad says a tired puppy is a good puppy.
When my humans leave I stay on the upstairs landing with my Frenchie brother. The area is gated off and I have a wide range of toys to chew and play with so Iβm good. Iβll be super happy crazy puppy when you come back home though and after a few crazy U-Turns Iβll want to go outside. Iβve had a few accidents in the house, but they were accidents. Some of them I was trying to tell dad I needed to go out and he just didnβt get the message and 1-2 at the beginning was just learning the new routine.
If you have anymore questions Iβm sure my foster

Hi, I am Delilah! No one really knows a whole lot about my life before I became a foster, but my foster mom thinks someone loved me before I ended up in the less than perfect situation I just came from. But what I can tell you is that I am a very sweet girl and I get along with just about anybody. I have one doggy brother who is my size and two small cat siblings. I also have two younger human siblings. My human siblings can get loud and rambunctious and sometimes it makes me a little jumpy, but otherwise I get along with everyone in my house. It takes me a minute to warm up to new people but so far, I have warmed up to everyone I have met. A few of my favorite things are food and treats, walks, super soft places to curl up and getting my belly rubbed! I also like playing, but not too rough. Something I do not like is being left alone. My foster mom says I have separation anxiety. I manage to keep that in check by spending time in the same space as my doggy brother when the humans are away. I would do best in a home with another dog who is passive and relaxed, especially when the humans are gone. A few things I have heard my foster mom say about me are that I am sweet, kind, I do great at the vet and my leash skills are pretty good! I love a lot of attention and treats so I hope you are well-stocked on both and I hope to see you soon! If you are in adopting Delilah please visit our website and fill out an application.

Happy New Year! As we prepare for another year of helping gentle giants find their forever homes we celebrate those that found theirs in 2023. Thank you for continuing to support us in our mission and for those that opened their homes. Thank you to our foster homes who open their homes as a pit stop for these lucky pups. Cheers to 2024! β₯οΈ

My name is Onyx. Iβm 1.5 yrs young with a youthful attitude, curiosity, smarts, and love showing affection to my foster mom. I arrived at my foster home feeling skittish about unknowns: new sights and sounds. Iβm still shy about people coming in the house to visit and really like when they offer me treats and patience. I like my crate which is always open to me where I can chew on MY toys. I donβt mind at all sleeping in there at night, and during momβs rest time because my curiosity prompts me to get into things. I love my back yard to romp in and run with my giant tennis ball in mouth, I really hope my furever home will have a big yard. I like walks since Iβm now used to the βgentle leader.β I know the βackβ sound means to stop what Iβm trying to do, but my big nose can get me in trouble. I like to βhelpβ her - with getting my food from the garage, working in the kitchen, when she does laundry, makes her bed, or drinks her coffee β with my big nose into it all. She moves around a lot so I must follow her closely so as to miss nothing! I now know how to get in and out of the car. The vet visits are becoming easier, too, especially with cheese wiz on a stick. I do live with a small, old dog, Shih Tzu, who I play along side outside, some inside, but donβt like when I think maybe heβs too close to my resources. I will need someone who is patient and will offer me a safe space to learn how to share and offer consistent training. Will you be my forever home?

Chucky and his brother came directly to their foster homes from St. Louis. He had a difficult start to life, but he is resilient. Chucky is smart, has learned many skills in his short time with us, & is eager to please. He has learned to have a bathroom schedule & will signal to go out. Heβs 100% house-trained. He will sit, stay, and wait for his meals, & he is eating great. He sleeps on his dog bed through the night. Chucky has zero destructive behaviors; he has free roam of the house when his foster parents are away and does great. Chucky does have a fear of crates due to his previous life, so itβs best if he is not crated. His favorite toy is a purple polka dot pig, & when he has the zoomies, he focuses his puppy energy on playing with his piggy. Chucky loves his walks, playing with sticks, & stopping to say hi to the goats & chickens at his foster home. He is also very content being a couch potato. Chucky could do well in any home. One where his people are his sole focus, or one where he has other pups. He is super loving to the people around him & wants to be with you at all times. He loves to check in on you with a nuzzle & lay his head on you before going back to what he was doing. He is just seeing the world for the first time, so itβs a joy to witness his excitement & curiosity. Chucky is a work in progress on meeting new people. He has a fear of people visiting his home & does better with meeting people out and about. He truly is the

Delta is a sweet girl who came to rescue with her sister. She has a little sibling syndrome but the foster home is working on that. She will not be a big Dane. She is very good in her crate and is house trained. She is very food motivated so her continued training should be easy to move to the next step. She came into foster care liking to jump on people. She is better already but it will be something to keep in mind. She has sweet eyes and wants nothing more to be loved by her person. Are you that person?

Sapphire, or as her foster home calls her, Sassy, is a 10 month old Great Dane. She is a love-bug. Sheβs still learning how to be a dog and have fun. She shares her foster home with an adult Great Dane, another 9 month old Dane, and a 3-legged pitbull. She loooooves her doggy playmates. She does well with the range of ages and sizes. She plays very gently with the pitbull, knowing she canβt be too rough with her. Sapphire hasnβt had a chance to be around cats or children since coming to Forever Friends, but her prior home said she was good with both. Sapphire needs a patient adopter who understands that she will need obedience training and be willing to work with her. She has improved a bunch since arriving to her foster home and is eager to please. She is house trained and crate trained. She still needs to work on her loose leash skills, but is getting better. She is a quiet dog that doesnβt often bark or whine, but she can get riled up with sheβs playing with the other dogs. She takes instructions well. Are you ready to be her forever home? For more pictures of Sapphire check out our stories.

Today is Giving Tuesday! A day to spread love and support to rescues and charities around the world.
This video shows just a few of the Great Danes we have helped over the years. We would not be able to do that without the help and donations from our supporters.
Your donation helps us bring in Great Danes into foster homes to get the care and love they need as they find their forever home. The donations cover any needed medical costs.
Any dollar amount helps and if you cannot consider sharing this post and helping us raise money to continue doing what our volunteers love doing...saving as many gentle giants as we can.
The link to donate is below or you can find it on our website. Thank you for all the continued support.

Dory would prefer if her new family has large breed experience. Dory loves being outside and sunbathing. She definitely needs exercise and would do best with daily walks or siblings she can play a lot with. She is great at learning to adjust her play to meet the needs of other pups. She loves toys of any shape and size but needs a little more practice with playing fetch....she thinks playing tug is more fun! Dory prefers to sleep in her crate at night and uses that alone time to decompress and relax. Doryβs new family will need to be good with her continued training and holding her to boundaries and routine. She is a typical young dane and will try to see if she can counter surf without you knowing. She also likes to be mouthy and will need help focusing that mouthiness onto her toys. Dory is a sweet and sassy girl and loves to cuddle, enjoys belly rubs, and any love and attention you can spare. Are you the family for Dory? Head to our website and fill out an application today!
