Join us in wishing Happy 9th Birthday to our Nikkou Rae! Last night we took a little walk down to the end of the cul-de-sac with our boys and Nikkou and she wanted up this huge pile of snow at the end with our boys right away. If we wouldn't let her go she would sit at the bottom whimpering and whining until we would let her climb back to the top. She loved it! Being 9 years old isn't slowing her down a bit! We love you Nikkou!

Since this beautiful girl is the only puppy that made it and has been missing her littermates we have some stuffed animals in with her and Mama. It helps her feel like she is more secure and has someone/thing to snuggle with like she would be doing with her litter. She really is such a blessing and we are so incredibly thankful that she is still with us. Mama Nikkou is doing much better now as well. Along with our regular love and attention we have also been using dog safe Essential Oils to help her work through her emotions. Yes, dogs live in the moment but Nikkou has always felt those moments very strongly and the oils just help her to process and be more in the now.

Lots of puppy love and dog hugs happening here this morning. The boys are in heaven. ❤️

Happy Labor Day weekend to all you hard workers out there! Our weekend was definitely a Rollercoaster of emotions for sure. Nikkou had her litter but due to some major complications we are only left with this one sweet miracle girl with the double dipped tail. She is a blessing and a treasure for sure. Mama Nikkou is doing OK. Definitely sad and tired and sore after all of this but she is snuggling, loving, licking (lots of licking) on her sweet girl. And we are doing to same for Nikkou (minus the licking) as we all shed lots of tears and begin to heal together. This is the hard part of breeding. This is why, unless you know what you are doing and are committed to breeding correctly, it shouldn't be done. Because although it is wonderful and such a blessing, it has its hard awful dark side. The side of nature.
But even in that we are celebrating this beautiful girl and her new life. ❤️ This was to be Nikkous last litter. She will continue to be our precious girl and live a life of leisure being spoiled by the family. She is my girl after all.

Nikkou was so relaxed during her ultrasound that she has decided to just keep laying here. She has absolutely no desire to get up. Good news is the puppies look great! We could see little hearts beating and paws kicking. So excited for this, her last litter, to get here. But at the same time savoring every moment of this with her. She is such a good Mama! ❤️

The story behind Superior Akitas

Let us introduce ourselves. My name is Angel and along with my wonderful, supportive husband Jaime, we have 3 beautiful children. Maggie is our oldest, then Liam and then Oliver. Along with our Akita's we also have a cat named Oreo, a pedigreed bunny named Pepper and 2 hermit crabs named Finn and Sammy. As you can tell we are an animal loving family!

We are new to breeding in the sense that we have just started our personal Akita breeding business however I (Angel) have lots of experience with dogs, puppies, as well as puppies being born. Growing up we always had lots of different pets from a raccoon to a fish and just about everything in between. I have grown up knowing that I wanted 3 things in my life. To be a stay at home Mama, to homeschool my kids and to breed dogs as a way to help support my family. Oh! And because I am a HUGE animal lover. Although I never knew the breed I wanted to focus my passion on. It wasn't till 2012 while thinking and praying about the future and the puppies that would come in the future that I just knew in my heart that Akitas were it for us.

The name 'Superior Akitas' comes from our love of the North Shore along Lake Superior here in MN. It is the place that we as a family go whenever we get a chance. It is our home away from home and the place we hope to call home someday. We thought Superior Akitas only made sense for that reason and for the reason we personally believe that Akitas are "superior" to other dogs (although we do love many other breeds).

Each of the puppies that have and will come through our home and business are loved, cared for, nurtured, socialized and most of all prayed for. Not just the puppies but the families that will choose to open their homes to them as well. It is a passion we will never waiver from.
