Yesterday we featured Baylor, who is still looking for his forever home. Today we will shine the spotlight on Dolly! For the life of me I can't imagine why this beautiful lady is still in rescue. Usually the and dogs break the internet - we mention Dolly and get crickets. Is it because she is on the petite side?

Anyway this is what Dolly's foster has to say about her:

"Dolly is a sweet female Great Dane, around 2 years old not spayed yet, she is only 85 lbs so a small Dane. Her back story is she was found dumped on the side of the road. She enjoys dry food and is not a fan of wet food. She is very much a gentle dog and has taken a liking to my teenage daughter.

Dolly entertains herself very well by throwing her toys to herself and playing. She does need sturdy toys because enjoys getting to the center of toys so taking out a lot of stuffing. She is a very high and long jumper, she may have been in the Olympics for it in a past life!

She is very shy at first meeting her but warms up very quickly. She does get along well with my 2 dogs but we did do a slow introduction for them. I am not sure about cats because we don’t have cats. She is not a fan of a leash so a fenced in yard is necessary for her though we are working with her on this issue. She does ride well in the car.

She has been to the vet and is up to date on her shots and everything is great with her health! She does love to be shown love by petting her and she gives kisses. She is usually on the couch or a dog bed if not chewing away at toy. We are working with her on sit and stay not sure she has been trained before us. She enjoys a good long nap."

Now it's your turn to help her. If you can't adopt, please like, comment and share this post to make sure it gets the largest audience possible. We get multiple requests to take in dogs, every day, yes, every day, but we can't take in any more unless we can place the ones we have.

Applications will be processed as quickly as possible, but please remember that this is a volunteer organization, we all have full time jobs, homes, families, etc. Click the link below to be considered as Dolly’s furever family.

We hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July. It's time to get back to the business of rescue.

We have a couple of dogs that are long time residents in the rescue, we will focus on them for the next couple of days. First up, Baylor. He needs a special home.

Baylor's DNA report is attached. He is a super sweet and loving boy to his female owner, however he is extremely protective of that female owner. He will need an experienced Mastiff home that understands his personality and is willing to work with him and advocate for him - not putting him in situations where he can't respond positively. He has been to my office and has engaged with my male staff, but they are all dog savvy and let him come to them on his terms. He does not respond well to men he doesn't know trying to pet or hug him.

He is wonderful with other dogs, both male and female, loves to run and play and ride in the car. He is housebroken, crate trained, neutered, vaccinated and knows basic commands. His ideal home will be female dominant, low traffic, no children or cats, Mastiff savvy and willing to be his advocate. Ongoing training will be a must. He is not the type of dog you are going to be able to socialize with.

Happy Fourth of July!

While we are all excited about celebrating, let’s all remember that there are both domestic animals and wildlife that don’t understand what fireworks are. They can and will spook and run. July 5 is one of the busiest days of the year for animal control for retrieving lost animals. Sadly, many never make it home because they are not chipped.

Let’s also be respectful of those who served our country and have returned home to pick up their lives. Many of them do not react well to the sound of exploding fireworks.

If you will be consuming adult beverages, please have a designated driver or have some other plan to keep you safe and off the roads.

Your dog will not understand why you never came home.

I have been asked on numerous occasions how things are done at my home, as far as the dogs are concerned. Introductions are done slowly, depending on the dog and how they interact with others.

This is a typical afternoon after I get home from work generally, everybody goes out for a pack walk around the property. There are dogs that don’t engage other dogs very well and those dogs are not forced to socialize. I try as a rescue Foster to introduce them to other dogs and allow them to spend as much time as possible with the dogs they feel comfortable with.

There is a definite structure in the group and the older dogs will frequently issue corrections to the younger dogs and that is allowed and encouraged. My pack of dogs have taught many, many dogs, how to dog and how to behave around other dogs. Having just recently lost my matriarch Miss Lucy, the structure in the group is now changing, and it remains to be seen how it will evolve. The great Pyrenees in the picture is generally the one that teaches them how to play. Also in the video we have, Miss Ava, Miss Gracie Lou (pittie available), Baylor (mastiff available- very protective of his person) and in the very back Miss Angel, the last remaining member of my original pack at almost 14 years old. Missing from the video are Maximus and Sarge my two Presa Canario mastiffs. Max isn’t into exercise unless there’s something he wants across the yard and then you better not be in his way. 🫣🤣🤣 Sarge has decided he’s done his time with the rescue dogs and teaching. He only goes out with his established pack members now.

Let's talk microchipping. July 4th is Friday, there is still time to make an appointment with your vet, humane society, SPCA or other dog organizations to get your pet microchipped. It's quick, relatively painless and can save your pet's life in the event they get lost. I don't care that Poochini "never goes outside, but on a leash" it only takes one person to not close a door properly and a scared Poochini for a preventable tragedy to happen. Please DO NOT take your dog to fireworks shows, even the deaf ones, (they can feel the vibrations).

You have livestock guardian dogs? Make certain they are chipped and can be returned in the event of a missing dog. Many people I know have chipped their horses, goats, etc. just in case they go missing, they can identify them and prove ownership by simply scanning for a chip.

While you are making your preparations for the celebration - PLEASE don't forget to make provisions for your dog, cat, etc. Calming bites, thunder shirts, happy hoodies and in extreme cases tranquilizers need to be purchased and on hand now, please don't wait. We bring our pets into our lives and therefore, it is our responsibility to make certain they are safe and happy. Place their bed in a quiet room, turn on the tv or radio (a friend of mine gave me a great tip - turn on a war movie or something similar, they won't be able to tell the tv from outside), make certain they have gotten exercise that day and please only feed them a light meal that evening and have GasX or some similar product on hand that can assist in the event of bloat. I usually give it prophylactically around dusk to everyone in my care, just to be safe.

Folks, July 4th can be a happy and safe holiday for all with a little preparation and care. Enjoy your holiday!!!!

Our boy Rhett (now Koa) had a vet appointment on Saturday, prior to a meet and greet with his prospective family. I wasn't prepared for the conversation I had there. Turns out Koa still has his needle teeth, meaning he is no older than 12 weeks!!! 12 weeks and he weighed in at 40.6 pounds on Saturday, needless to say he is going to be a VERY large boy when he grows up.

Once we completed our vet visit, it was onto meeting his new family. He is such a good boy, he walked right up to the house on leash like he'd been doing it all his life and his family was soooo excited to meet him. It was love at first sight with the humans and Akkeri, his fur sister was anxious to play after the first few minutes. His mom tells me he's doing beautifully with everyone, including his two feline siblings. They have decided to name him Koa - meaning strong or warrior in Hawaiian.

We wish Koa and his family all the best and look forward to updates and photos as he grows. Happy life sweet boy, I will miss you!
