BIG NEWS: my brother and I have officially closed on a lovely property in Owego, NY. We have been dreaming of this for over a decade and got serious in our search over the last year. We explored Oregon, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, and North Carolina as possible options but fate landed us in the Southern Tier of New York. I am excited to start a new chapter, none of it could have been possible without my brother, Adam, willing to share a common vision. Upward and onward to 2021! Photo credit:

Experiments in No-till . I was lucky to have the freedom to explore many no till techniques in the greenhouse this year. We were able to complete the entire year without tillage (I would use a tilther on some beds). Having a covered space free from heavy rain made it easy. There was much time saved and less w**d pressure. I am excited to extend these techniques to in the upcoming season!

SWIPE LEFT to see what a year and a mountain of compost can do!! 🥬🍅🥬

I’ve spent the last year managing vegetable production . It was a challenging year with many rewarding experiences. It was exciting to grow in a 1/4 acre greenhouse that I helped build the previous winter and I enjoyed managing a crew of some awesome, hardworking individuals. I have been thankful for opportunity but will be reinvesting in for the 2021 season.

Posted • Meet Jared from Highland, Maryland, United States 🇺🇸 “I am in the fourth year of starting my own small 1/2 acre organic vegetable farm in the middle of suburbia. I am a young farmer and believe in a better future with abundance, health, and equality. I grow with the highest respect for the land and soil and strive to connect consumers to their food beyond the supermarket. My journey has not been easy but I cant imagine doing anything else.
I got inspired to grow food at an early age. When I was 8 years old my little brother planted a seed in our sandbox and grew a watermelon, it was pure alchemy.
I currently grow over 40 different vegetable crops a year and farm all four seasons. My biggest hurdle is distribution of product. It is easy to grow but hard to sell it all. It needs to be convenient and easy for the customer. I am continuously working on the most profitable outlets for my vegetables. I currently sell at a local farmers market, a few restaurants, and a local meal kit company, the roving radish.
I grow food to feel a connection to the earth and people, to grasp something real and tangible. My biggest reward is being able to be connected to the rhythms of nature every day. Hands in the dirt while exposed to the elements. The returning customers who smile and share each week how much they enjoyed my vegetables. It’s a great energy exchange.

Grow anything you can! No matter how small, you matter! Find something that inspires you and fills you with passion. Find joy and hold on tight.”
features stories of home gardeners, farmers and community gardens across borders and cultures. @ Earth First Farm

Earth First Farm, Highland, MD: Seeking Interns/ Apprentices for the 2019 season, April- October

Looking for individuals that would like to commit to 1-2 days a week, learning the ropes of growing and selling vegetables. Earth First Farm is a small, organic, sub-urban farm located in Highland, MD. This year, I will be selling at three Farmer’s markets, to restaurants, a meal kit plan, and neighbors. You will learn to seed, cultivate, transplant, harvest and market organic produce. This could be a good opportunity for a college student looking to get into organic agriculture or anyone who wants to grow their own food and get their hands in the soil.
