We're hiring! Katherine needs someone to help with the Goats On The Go JoCo grazing business from 16-24 hours a week through the season. Its a really fun, challenging and always different job where you'll get to work with goats! Please share widely- we're looking for someone who likes to work hard, learn hard, and who'll appreciate the unique (and by unique, we mean goofy, sweet, aggravating, entertaining) character of goats!

Good afternoon! Two Birds Farm is in need of a couple of appliances and we're wondering if any of you have a refrigerator or microwave you'd love to get rid of?

They don't need to be fancy, just functional and we're happy to pay/ pick up at your convenience! We use the fridge for egg storage and crew food and the microwave for all of us, so we'd be grateful!

(Back story on the fridge- the mice in the barn ate the wiring and nested under it over the winter : / This time we're going to close it off with hardware cloth, plus we got some really hungry feral cats for the farm!)

Message me if you have anything we could use! Thanks!

This weather is just crazy. Not complaining, but weird...

Usually, this time of year, we're stressing about our greenhouse heating costs from February and hoping March will be a little better than just COOOOLLLD. Instead, we're just about giddy about our low propane costs and we're warning the transplants to 'SLOW DOWN" so they don't get too big before we're ready for them! Laura keeps shuffling through her seed packets and, after that last blast of cold, finally decided it is a good time to get seeds in the ground ahead of next week's rain.

And, pregnant goats- last year we had several born into really bitter cold; the first born in 2023 was Lucky. His mom, Woo Two, kidded him first and then was occupied with kidding two more in the early morning bitter chill. When we found him, he was on the ground so cold we thought he was dead; we rushed him into the germination chamber (warmest space on the farm), wrapped him in a heating pad and rubbed him warm. (He's now big, sweet and sassy and fully worthy of his name!) We had others born into freezing conditions, the seed chamber was used a couple times to warm up brand new babies.

This year, the does are panting in the heat, blowing their coats out, and lying in the shade trying to cool off. We should start seeing kids hitting the ground in the next few days; it will be fun to see them shake their heads, get up on their long and wobbly legs, and start to nurse in a more temperate environment.

Farming is always about managing as much as you can through good planning, good practices, and long hard hours and then rolling as best you can with what nature hands you. We're hoping, as always, for a good and mild year. It is always an adventure to be a farmer and (most days) we can't imagine any other way of living.

First and last chance alert! We have the most gorgeous fennel, cauliflower, baby pac choi, broccoli, salad turnips, poblanos, sweet peppers, greens and so much more! After a tough fall, we finally have a surge of gorgeous produce, but the upcoming hard freeze means this Saturday may be our only chance to share the bounty. The temps will be chilly, but we'd love to see folks show up for the Brookside Farmers' Market tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join us for great local food, free hot coffee and cold weather camaraderie. These veggies need a great new home now!

UPDATE! We're all set for help! It's going to be a good and busy day with the goats!

We're looking for a couple of volunteers to help with the goats on Sunday. We'll be trimming hooves, getting weights, doing some vaccinations, etc. We're looking for a few people to help hold the goats and provide back up, no experience with livestock necessary but you need to be strong, quick on your feet, and good at following instructions! You'll learn some, you'll hang out with us and the goats, your help will be much appreciated! Message me if you are interested!
