New Class!

Starting Tuesday, 5/7/2019, I will be offering a Rally-O class. The class will be held at DesPres Park from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. This will be a 4 week class, and the cost will be $45.00 to participate.

Dogs must be able to walk on leash. We will work on anything else needed.

Rally-O is great for dogs that need to brush up on their general obedience, as well as dogs that have a difficult time focusing on you while on walks.

Depending on the demand, we are also considering an outdoor obedience class. Please pm us if you're interested.

This is a great example of what kids should not be doing with dogs. Please make sure that all family members know how to behave around dogs.

It isn’t always the dog’s fault. Children should be taught how to treat animals. If you can’t protect your pets, don’t have children. Live and let live. This is NOT cute.

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Sebastian M. Sebastian passed suddenly and unexpectedly last week. He went by several names, including SebSeb, Bubba, Bubba Seb, and more.

To know Seb was to love Seb. One of my fondest memories of Seb occurred when I was pet sitting him: Seb and I were taking a walk, when we encountered an entire high school of girls on a pink out (wearing pink tutus, scarfs, and other eccentric clothing). If you knew Seb, you are probably smiling by now.
Another wonderful memory was during a class at the Bass Pro Shop. Being a big, white gentle giant always attracted unwanted admirers. Seb was so patient with the strangers.

I'm not sure if they considered adopted dogs as it relates to fearful and anxious dogs, as I know many dogs that show anxiety, and their owners do not have the traits discussed in the article.

Do you pick up after your dog? We always do, though I don't understand how bagging and then putting the p**p in the trash will keep the dangerous pathogens from entering the eco system. Won't it enter the eco system at the landfill?

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, dog p**p is as toxic to the environment as chemical and oil spills. Still many pet parents think leaving their dog's duty behind is harmless.

Sadie turns 1 year old today. It's a birthday that almost wasn't:
From the time that she was about 10 weeks old, she started having recurring fevers. It got to the point that her original owners were at the end of the road, and they were going to euthanize her.

Fortunately for Sadie, they reached out to Save One Soul to take her on. Sadie underwent test after test, and nothing pointed in the direction of what might be causing the fevers. She had to be admitted to the animal hospital a couple of times, with temps spiking to 107 degrees. Several medications were tried. No progress. No answers.
Finally, she was tested for cat scratch fever. Even though the test came back negative, we opted to treat for it, as the test can have false negatives. She has been on that course of treatment for a while now, and hasn't had any fevers since (knock on wood)!!! We hope that once she goes off the antibiotics, that she will remain fever free.

Sadie's bills so far have been over $4000 (and she still needs to get her shots and spayed before she can get adopted). She is having a birthday party this evening at Des Pres Park (on Lowe Road). She is asking for cards with $1.00 in them, so that she won't have to pay for all of that lab work (haha) herself. New Class!

It's finally spring, and we can have outdoor classes again. Yeah!

We will have a "Fun and Obedience Class" starting next Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at DesPres Park.

The class will be set-up in a course style setting with numbered "stations", where the dogs will have to perform tasks. These tasks might be as simple as sit, walk over a board, jump through a hoop, etc.

These types of classes are great for:
* dogs that need help focusing on the handler
* dogs that need help with self-confidence
* dogs that need an outlet for their excess energy

Class will be held once per week for one hour for 4 weeks in a row, and will cost $40.00 for the 4 week program. Enrollment is limited to 5 participants. Please pm us to enroll.

Here is an interesting article about early socialization. The article mentions that puppies that were socialized early often have less anxieties and othet problem behaviors as grown dogs. There are good questions to ask breeders or shelters.
And remember to continue socialization after bringing your puppy home.

Basic Obedience (Outdoors) starting on Saturday, 10/7/2017 at 10:00 am. The class will meet once per week for 4 weeks in a row at Beckley Station Park. The cost to participate is $55.00 for the 4 week class.

This class is designed for the novice dog, as well as for dogs that have already learned basic obedience, but have trouble applying their skills outdoors. The dogs will learn sit, down, stay, coming when called, loose leash walking, and more.

I've been getting a few requests lately about having a class for dog reactive (not aggressive) dogs. The class would be a 4 week outdoor class (Des Pres Park) on a Tuesday evening. Cost will be $60.00, maximum of 4 dogs in class.

Upcoming Class:

Starting Tuesday, 7/18/2017 (6:30 to 7:30 pm), we will have another Leaving Tracks all over Town class.

For this class, we will meet at local, pet friendly stores to get the dogs used to various situations, socialize the dogs and practice obedience. Dogs must have knowledge of basic commands to participate in this class.

This is a 4 week class and costs $55.00 for the session.

This is a great opportunity for dogs to practice for the CGC (classic, advanced and urban) tests.
