From our farm to your feed- the wisdom you can't afford to miss!
What would you like to learn most about?
Cooking from scratch?
Growing your own food?
Raw dairy and making alllill the things with it?
Hunting and foraging?
Canning and preserving your own food?
We were once beginners too! But step by step we have learned how to do more than I could ever have imagined, and I am sharing it all with you! I am putting content plans together and want to know what you guys want to learn!
We have emerged from the slow winter season, and are going full force, planting, planning and welcoming new life on the farm! We are making adjustments on the things we learned from last year, and so ready to welcome what this busy season brings us. The process of learning is bumpy, l'm not going to lie. But the joy of success of is SO worth it!

Loss on a farm is a difficult emotion. It feels like there is a constant rhythm of new life and death, it’s part of the lifestyle. But sometimes it hits harder than others. I think most people that live this lifestyle understand what I’m saying, but maybe not, maybe it’s just me.
I took these photos a few days ago of Chanticleer, our oldest roosters beautiful feather pattern. He kind of had become our mascot in some ways. He has just been there forever, never a mean bone in his body, and took great care of his hens always. The coop he lived in was called “Chanticleers Coop”, even though dozens of other chickens have come and gone and lived in there. A couple months ago we moved a new generation of chickens and roosters into that space, as we have phased out our olive eggers, and need that space for me my Cornish cross project. He just didn’t fit in with that flock anymore and I didn’t want the younger roosters beating him up, so we decided to let him live his old rooster days in the barn with the horses. He did so great, slept in Graces stall for safety and just hung out near the barn all day. He would crow from behind one wall or another while we were doing chores, and we would affectionately say “We know you’re here Chanticleer” 💗.
I think we all got more attached to him in the process of him being a part of daily life in the barn, so I was so not ready for what happened last night.
We have had a major pack of coyotes making themselves too comfortable on our property lately, but last night they started a war. I found some of Chanticleers beautiful feathers today right outside of Graces stall. She had gotten out last night and I think while she was destroying the hay in the barn isle one of the coyotes felt bold enough to go into the stall and get Chanticleer 💔
We are all so sad tonight. Even though we won’t hear him crowing anymore, he will still always be here.

Wishing all of you the very Merriest of Christmases and a wonderful New Year!!!
We have begun our ritual of hunkering down for the holiday, watching our favorite Christmas shows, baking cookies and cinnamon rolls, and eating all of our favorite meals!! Christmas Eve is actually my favorite day of the year. Spending time together, with the excitement and anticipation of the upcoming morning is the best part for me. The nighttime feeding in the barn, with the lights and silent night, munching sounds of the horses and goats, I just soak it all in.
What is your favorite part of the Christmas holiday?

Hi! We are the Tafoya’s!!
There are a lot of new faces around here recently, and I realized we haven’t done an introduction post in quite awhile!
I’m Brandelyn, and I am the one that manages this account! I live on a 20 acre homestead in Redmond Wa with my wonderful husband Joe, and our favorite little people, our children Brooklyn and Jaxson! Together we live on this beautiful piece of land where we focus on everything home, as that is where we believe the focus truly belongs. Homestead, homemade, homegrown, homeschooled!
We currently are growing or hunting for 80 % of what we eat, and are loving sharing the process with you!! Teaching others about this journey just feels right!
Joe and I are first generation at all of this, proudly raising the second generation. Previously, I was in fashion design and ran an apparel company with products distributed in 350 stores throughout the PNW. I was raised in the suburbs, but have always been an equestrian and country at heart.
My husband played in the NFL for 8 seasons, in Chicago, Seattle, and Arizona, and grew up in the Bay Area, but I started converting him to the country on our first date lol (cleaning out a barn)! I can’t believe that was 19 years ago! We loved the country lifestyle, but our occupations repeatedly removed us from it, and were admittedly major consumers living your typical American Family lifestyle.
When 2020 hit, we made a HARD RIGHT and Pivoted (hence the name), and decided we were going to turn our horse farm into a homestead, and grow as much as we possibly could!!
Well here we are now, raising dairy goats, chickens for meat and eggs, pigs, turkeys, growing huge gardens, hunting, canning and everything in between!! Loving every second of, feeling so blessed at the drastic turn our lives took.
I’m so happy to be connected with all of you and sharing what we are learning! If you are new here, please introduce yourself in the comments and feel free to ask questions!!!
