If your have a picture perfect artificial tree, here's a few tips to help keep your tree from being a hazard to your pup.

1. Avoid Sharp Edges or Small Parts: Some fake trees have small, detachable parts (like branches or ornaments) that could be chewed off and pose a choking hazard. Inspect your tree for any loose or sharp components that might be harmful to your dog.

2. Limit Access to Ornaments: Many dog breeds are naturally curious and may be drawn to ornaments. Opt for break-resistant, non-toxic decorations, and consider placing them higher up on the tree to prevent your dog from knocking them down or ingesting them.

3. Watch Out for Electrical Cords: Fake trees often have pre-lit branches. Make sure any electrical cords are out of your dog's reach or covered with protective covers to prevent chewing, which could lead to electrical shock or burns.

4. Use Dog-Safe Fake Snow: Some fake trees come with "snow" or other artificial decorations. Be cautious with these products, as they may contain harmful chemicals or dyes. Always check the labels for safety before allowing your dog to interact with the tree.

Real trees are so beautiful and smell amazing. Here's how to make sure you enjoy your real tree to the fullest and keep your dog safe.

1. Water the Tree Regularly: Real Christmas trees absorb a lot of water, and stagnant water in the tree stand can be toxic to pets. Make sure to cover the water basin with a tree skirt or guard to keep your dog from drinking it, which could lead to stomach upset or poisoning from any preservatives in the water.

2. Keep the Tree Secure: Like with fake trees, securing a real tree is essential. A top-heavy real tree can easily topple over, especially if your dog is excited or playful. Use a sturdy tree stand, and ensure the tree is firmly anchored.

3. Avoid Toxic Decorations: Certain types of holly, mistletoe, and poinsettias can be toxic to dogs. Use artificial plants that look similar but are non-toxic, and avoid placing real plants where your dog can reach them.

4. Use Dog-Safe Ornaments: Real trees can be more fragile, so it’s important to use shatterproof ornaments that won't break easily if knocked off by your dog. Also, avoid tinsel or garlands that your dog could swallow or get tangled in, as these can cause choking or gastrointestinal blockages.

5. Check for Needle Loss: Real trees shed needles over time, which can be sharp and pose a choking hazard or cause irritation if ingested.
Vacuum regularly around the tree to remove fallen needles and keep your dog from accidentally swallowing them.
