Stella’s Story- July 2024

This sweet girl was surrendered from a breeder with her mom and sister. She was given away to BTBR because she “wouldn’t accept a male”, so since she wouldn’t breed they didn’t want her anymore.

She was so thin and malnourished that she needed TLC in a Foster to Adopt home where she was thriving, being just a pet for the first time. We were thrilled as she was gaining weight and getting healthy in her loving foster home.

However soon, we realized she was starting to waddle and get a bit wider around the middle! We were all shocked when the Vet confirmed she had 8 little babies in there!!

Fast forward two weeks later and two Veterinary recommendations for a C-section, our Vetting Coordinator & Stella took a road trip from NC to VA where Dr. Miller generously offered his services. Shockingly, although Stella didn’t seem to be in labor, she delivered the first puppy in the passenger seat on the side of the Freeway!!! 😳

Over the next 7 hours she delivered 7 more babies naturally at Crossroads West Veterinary Center. Stella is an incredible Momma and knew just what to do!!!

Although the last angel baby wasn’t born alive, the Super 7 are thriving and growing fast! 5 weeks old, spunky and full of life!

We are so proud of her, thankful for our volunteers and grateful to all who have supported us on our rescue mission!

❤️🐾ADOPT ME, I NEED YOU❤️🐾

We would like to introduce you to our boy, Evander……for the first time (again!).
Evander is a 2 year old, 20 lb, gorgeous, rambunctious and brilliant Boston Terrier. He has had some hiccups due to failures on the part of humans. He has recently completed an extensive training program and been working with an incredible husband and wife team who love him and wish so much they could keep him for themselves!
The issue is ….that is not what Evander needs. Here is what our beautiful fella needs…..
-A single dog home
(Evander tolerates other dogs but he doesn’t love them, his pack = his people).
-A home with an owner who understands Boston Terriers.
(Evander is not a first time BT owner kind of dog. You have to know how Boston’s operate to be his person!)

-A home with no kids or older kids.
(Evander guards his resources….his crate, his toys, his people…..and if you aren’t able to see and understand that, you won’t be able to have this fella in your pack)
-An understanding that it is going to have to be enough to have Evander be your very best friend….at home.
(Evander is not a social dog, it gives him anxiety….he won’t be a dog park guy or brewery buddy…..and he won’t thrive in a home where people run in and out and he doesn’t have a spot to chill away from the fuss…
He will be a couch snuggler and yard fetch bestie!)
MOST IMPORTANTLY….A heart for rescue, for taking in the ones, like Evander, who have been failed…who deserve a safe home, who love in their own way……
We promise you that this boy will go to the mat for the people he loves. He is so smart and he has so much love to give…..he just needs a responsible family to help him achieve his best life.
A bonus would be if the family lives within driving distance of his trainer in Fayetteville, NC as the rescue will continue to support follow up training as needed at no cost to you!!!

Say hello to Lilly! Lilly was born in the summer of 2016 and has been her dad’s best friend ever since! Sadly her dad is being relocated out of the country and is unable to take Lilly with him. He has turned to us for help! Here is what he has to say about this gal!

“She is high energy and loves to play. She gets along fine with cats, kids, and small dogs but her favorite is a big dog that she can rough house with. She has also always loved running in a fenced-in yard. An environment that can provide stimulation and play is best. So maybe a young or active family and not someone that only owns cats or senior dogs. “

Lilly is 21 lbs, she is house trained, up-to-date on vetting, and is a truly loved companion. Let me know if this girl could be the one for you. As this is outside of our usual geographic area, we are looking to see if we have any interest in her area, or someone interested that is willing to travel the distance to get her.

Today our rescue was able to participate in our very first Pilots N Paws rescue flight! Karma’s foster mom rode along from Marietta Ga to Wilmington NC with our very awesome rescue pilot, Dominick!!!
Karma’s forever mom was waiting for their arrival!! What an awesome thing these pilots do and what a fantastic group of volunteers we have! Special thanks to our own Kali for making this happen!
Dominick, you are the real VIP! Karma is so grateful and so are we!!!!

“Mocha Jane is doing well. She has been on 2 little getaways. One to DC and one to Berkeley Springs, WV for our Anniversary getaway. She is such a great traveler - loves hotel stays and the extra attention she gets.

She is definitely my dog and is attached to my side. No rashes or anything to report. She plays with her sisters well and is a very good girl at work. Here are a few pictures to share.”

UPDATE: Pending Adoption!!!!🎉🎉🎉

🐾❤️TRIXIE NEEDS A HOME!🐾❤️

Trixie is a petite Boston with the BIGGEST heart. She is most content to sleep on the couch or snuggle with her people. She loves a good squeak toy and doesn’t hesitate to bury a Greenie in the blankets in her crate as soon as you give it to her. She’s rarely makes a sound, only chiming in with a bark if the other dogs are barking.

Foster mom says: “ I was a bit concerned when we initially accepted Trixie to foster knowing that she was blind, but surgery was possible and I thought that I could help her through surgery to prepare her for adoption as a “perfect” dog. As this evolved, it turned out that surgery was not the best option for Trixie and she will remain blind. BUT, she is still the PERFECT dog. Here’s why:

1. The vet eye specialist confirmed her eyes are healthy other than her cataracts. She is in no pain and doesn’t require any daily medication or treatment. She is perfectly healthy in her current state. She just can’t see.
2. Trixie has done an incredible job adapting to her circumstances. She listens for foot steps to determine where to go to follow you. Her sense of hearing and smell are extra powerful to keep her safe and fed. If you eat ice cream on the couch, she’ll hear the spoon hit the bowl and smell the food to track you down and let you know she’s interested. 😊 No eyesight required.
3. She will go to the bathroom immediately when her paws hit the grass, so she knows what to do! Trixie came to us mostly housebroken, but it took time for her to learn our routine and environment. She will have an occasional accident in the house, but this is typically due to being off the routine, not her fault. She responds very well to praise and treats. Her little stubby tail goes a mile a minute.
4. Due to her circumstances and in an effort to keep her safe, Trixie’s whereabouts need to be known at all times. She is content in her crate for short periods of overnight, but prefers to be with her people as much as possible. I joked that I needed a baby carrier so she can sit with me while I work. She wants to be your snuggly bestie at all times! “

We don’t recommend a home with young children or overly playful/aggressive dogs for Trixie’s safety. She’s not quick to respond to avoid injury or protect herself.

🐾💔Melo needs you….💔🐾

Hi friends! This is the first….of sadly, many, many posts that we will be making on behalf of this sweet, small…sickly little baby dog we picked up today….
The good news? Melo is safe. He will be loved and snuggled like every puppy deserves from this moment forward. He is beautiful, he is kind and he is on the path to recovery…
The not so good news? Melo has a problem with his liver…..his prognosis without fixing it is not good….we are talking months to a year or so….and never feeling “good”
The really not so good news? Helping him is going to be VERY expensive……
He needs us, all of us, to help him….he needs us to pray for him and he needs us to send him every warm, happy, healing thought that we can as he begins his journey to living a long, joyful, healthy life…..

Say Hello to Melo….

Melo is not a Boston. We know that, but HE does not. What he does know is that he feels very sick and that in his young, 14 week life, he has had more bad days than good.

He would love to play with his friends and be a regular puppy but, his body won’t let him.
Melo is in need of a medical foster who will let him live in their warmth and comforts while taking him to vet appointments so that we can find a way, together, to heal Melo.
He is currently in Richmond, VA and he will need to be close to an area where help is easy to find.

Please please let us know if your heart feels moved to be a true “rescuer”…..

Melo’s life hangs in the balance, and Boston or Frenchie or Micro Bully…….his life matters.
