Exercising my dogs Alley & Joey is still one of my favorite summer early morning activities. At 9 years young Alley is still able to run at 13 to 20 mph for 4 miles. Often I hear people say that once their dogs reach what is considered their senior years, that activity should slow down. I don't think Alley got the memo...
I hope you all get to live life like Alley will this weekend... at full throttle!
Joey the 3 year old is firing on all cylinders. 7.6 miles with a 4 min/mile pace. Alley stuck to my side. In about 1 hour I will reward them with some raw meet and a mix of healthy veggies. What a start to the day!
Alley lives life at 💯. Hope you find your puddle today and make a splash.
Saturday post run praise... these pups live for it.
Just like with human athletism, dogs can be trained to be phenominal endurance athletes. Here are some videos of my dogs Joey (3 years old) and Alley (6 years old) getting exercised on a cool Saturday evening. Alley has been running with me many many miles over the past 5 years . She does not care for petting or snuggling much, but given the opporunity to choose between excercise and even food, she will choose to join me on run. Our speedy excursions are her way of bonding. She is a super canine athlete. After 5 miles and maintaining a 4 min/mile pace she still is able to go into a full on sprint if I give her a "good girl". Joey during this video is lagging about 300 ft behind us. We will work on getting him up to speed, pun intended. The milestones we can reach with our bodies, human or canine, fascinate me.
Holy smokes Birdie is fast! We had our first official session today. What a way to end a week of running. She handled the 60 min Running session like a champion.
Our 17 month old daughter loves her sled dogs
Alley flipping the switch...
So here it is, Alley turning on light switches. I started training her two days ago. She caught on quickly. Remedy is taking a little longer to catch on since we taught her a few years ago how to turn lights off using her paws. Making the switch seems a little harder for her.
