🚨🥵☀️FEELS LIKE SUMMAH☀️🥵🚨
It’s a hot one out there! And we’re here to remind you to keep your furry friends safe on these hot days 🥵
Heat stroke is NO joke! It is recommended to keep your pets inside a cool area during peak heat hours. If outside, no strenuous activity and make sure they ALWAYS have access to a shaded area and fresh water 😎
As always, NEVER leave your pet in a car during the warmer months, unless the vehicle on WITH the A/C turned ON.

Our friends at ASPCA shared this great photo of plants that are beautiful and SAFE to have in home with pets! We always share flowers and plants to avoid having in a home with pets, but it’s good to see which ones are safe as well! 💐🌻

☀️Spring and summer season = busiest time at Henniker Vet!☀️
With doctors on the road every day and day of emergencies in office, we have to be able to accommodate with the doctor’s schedules and make sure we have enough techs on staff for our patients.

‼️We are currently booking annual visits (exam & vaccines in office for small animal & annual road calls for large animals) at least THREE weeks out‼️

If you’re unsure when your pet(s) is due, please call our office and we can check our records their upcoming vaccines. We appreciate your understand 🙂

Update!!! Ragnar has made his way back home!! 🥰

His name is Ragnar, he is 11 year old neutered male and is wearing a gray serestro collar. He is the family pet of our CSR, Kara, and her family misses him terribly!

🦟☀️April is heartworm awareness month☀️🦟
Last year Henniker vet treated NINE 😱 heartworm positive dogs. That number has continued to grow these past few years. Historically, heartworm has not really been an issue because we have those cold New England winters 🥶. Unfortunately that has changed with the southern shelters being over capacity and transporting pets up north, as well as the mild winters we have had. Out of the 9 patients that tested positive, at least two of them lived in New England their whole lives 🤯. Heartworm can be treated, however the treatment can take a few months and can take a toll on these pups 😥
So, how can YOU prevent this?
♥️ Follow the recommendation, as we have been saying for 20+ years, for YEAR ROUND heartworm (and flea and tick!) prevention.
♥️ Make sure your dog(s) is tested every year at their annual for a 4dx. This in-house test takes 10 min to run and tests for THREE tick bourn diseases (Lyme, anaplasmosis and ehrlichia) as well as heartworm disease. *in order for us to dispense heartworm prevention, a 4dx test is REQUIRED*
♥️ If you happen to adopt a dog (especially if from a southern state), it is recommended to RETEST your dog for heartworm at their first appointment with your vet, even if they were tested at the rescue. Some of the patients we treated last year tested negative BEFORE transport and came in for their first visit with us and came up positive. It may take a few weeks after exposure to test positive. This is the case for our friend and staff pet RayRay (pictured here) ☀️. This beautiful boy was a Mississippi rescue and came up positive after settling in his new home. After his treatment and lots of love and care from his owners, he made a full recovery and has tested negative since treatment 🥰

Last week we had a very special patient come in for a procedure. Sonic the hedgehog’s owner, Cayden, knew something was up 🤒 and asked his mom if she could bring in Sonic for an emergency. Luckily his mom is surgery technician Abby! 🤩
He was brought in the next day where Dr. Kate👩🏼‍⚕️ fixed him up in our surgery suite 🏥. Sonic is back home with his owner, Cayden, getting the best care for recovery! 🥰

💉 First two pets are $15 each. Additional pets are $10. CASH ONLY
💉 Henniker vet staff will be there to administer vaccines
💉 If this is a booster for your pet, please be sure to bring the previous rabies vaccine CERTIFICATE.

Spring season is here which means our office traffic has picked up quite a bit 😬
💊 We would like to remind our clients that if calling in a prescription, please allow 24-48 hours so our staff have time for doctor approval and time to fill the medications.
💊We recommend keeping track of how many days of medication you have left and call ahead when running low.

This handsome fella is Duarte aka Dewey 🐴😍
In November, this guy got him self into a predicament that called for an emergency visit with Dr. Jen and technician Shauna. It appeared Dewey had a laceration that required sutures 😬🪡 The location was in such a high motion area, Dr. Jen had to close the wound in a way that would allow some movement. After a few months of medications and a lot of hard work and care by his awesome owners, this beautiful boy healed up and his owners are excited to get him back to work! 😊

‼️ Warning: last few photos are of the laceration/wound, if you’re a little queezy at the site of blood, we recommend skipping those. 🙂 ‼️

It’s National Golden Retriever Day! ☀️🐾
How can anyone resist that golden smile?? 😍

Here are some fun facts about this breed:
⭐️ These beautiful dogs are the third most popular breed in the US 🤩
⭐️ They originated from Scotland in the 1800s 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
⭐️ They’re natural love for swimming (webbed toes 🦆), double coats and soft mouths make this breed a great working dog!

This sweet golden is staff pet Oakley! Originally from Florida, this southern boy definitely loves New England winters ❄️😉

New year and some exciting news! 🥳
Starting today (1/2), Henniker Vet has officially become Paper-Lite! 🤩💻
What does this mean?
🐾Your previous records of current patients (from another practice or previous years here at HVH) will be scanned and saved under your account and pet in our computer system! This means less paper (*paper-lite*) and easier way to access records and history of your pet without needing the physical file! 🙌🏼
🐾Check-ins are still done with a sheet so our staff can make their notes, however information will be transferred to the digital record after your appointment 📝.
✨Since this is new and our staff is still getting the hang of things, we ask to please be patient as we are still getting used to the system😊✨
