The beautiful Ophelia has crossed the Rainbow Ridge and is sorely missed. Love her to pieces. Camping will not be fun this year without her helping me dig for rocks.

ARE LAUNDRY CHEMICALS AFFECTING YOUR PETS’ SKIN & HEALTH?

If you wash your pet blankets and beds using popular fabric softeners and dryer sheets, that “just washed” fresh smell comes from chemicals called Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that can negatively impact your pets’ health (coughing, rashy, itchy pets, anyone?).

Dr. Anne Steinmann’s UW-Seattle research team found more than 25 VOCs emitted from dryer vents using these products, including well-known respiratory irritants like Acetone, Formaldehyde, Acetaldehyde, but also Pentane (which causes skin rashes and upset stomach), Ethyl Acetate (on the EPA’s Hazardous Waste list; causes anemia, changes in white blood cells and can damage the liver and kidneys), Benzyl Acetate (can be absorbed through the skin and is linked to pancreas problems) and Alpha-terpineol (causes headaches and nervous system disorders).

Our pets can do without having to breathe in these chemical residues or having to lay on them, so here’s our Forever Dog Tip of the day: replace chemical-laden fabric softeners with a non-toxic DIY option!

Recipe: Mix 6 cups white vinegar with 1 cup baking soda, let it fizz. When the fizz stops, pour mixture into a large glass container with a lid. Use 1 cup per load of laundry.

We highlight all of the of home chemical risks that can negatively impact your dog’s health in the The Forever Dog book, available now for pre-order by clicking here: https://foreverdog.com/about/ -window

Hello everyone! By now you’ve heard the wonderful news that Juliia, Svetlanna & her mom, the 19 Airedales, two cats and a Brussels Griffon made it safely to Poland after a 30+ hour journey from the outskirts of Kiev last weekend. A long trip that we all followed in real time as we sat on the edge of out seats hoping for the best. AND just this weekend, Airedale breeder Nataliy Osipenko and her granddaughter, 2 Airedales, a Wire Fox and some Yorkies made it safely across the border. Juliia reports another Airedale was rescued, too.
These successful trips were made possible, in part, due to your generous donations and prayers--and thanks to all the other people who contributed through other sources! I am overwhelmed with the outpouring of concern for these people and their dogs by many people who, prior to last Wednesday March 2, had never heard of them. Little did I know that my feeling that “we have to do something “ would turn into $11,000 (less the $600 in fees!!) raised in just under 2 weeks from 145 people from across the world. I have transferred all but the latest $1,250 (which I will do this week) to Juliia and it has been used for their trip out of the country, partially for Nataliy's trip, money for dog food for Airedale people left behind in Ukraine and some in reserve for current food needs and daily expenses.
In many ways, Juliia and her friends journey is just beginning as they face an uncertain future. I know they are working on getting more people out but it has become even more dangerous now, so I don’t know what the outcome of those efforts will be. But daily needs continue.
To further help these people, their Polish host, Tomasz Krawczyk has set up a PayPal account so that future donations can be sent directly to them now that they are in Poland. You can send funds to: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/TKrawczyk826... Enter Help for Ukraine when using this link.
THANK YOU for your concern about your fellow Airedale lovers and your generosity in this impromptu fundraiser. Know that you personally made a life altering impact on these 5 peoples lives and their pack of much loved Airedales.

If the Ukranians can do it, you can too

I can’t keep my dog because….
We just don’t have time for them.
We have to move.
We just had a new baby.
We don’t have a big enough home.
The kids don’t help anymore.
The kids are allergic.
The dog is too hyper.
The dog is too lazy.
The dog is having trouble housetraining.
The dog got too big.
The dog escapes out of our yard.

EXCUSES. All of them. If your pet means enough to you, you will find a way.
if the Ukrainians can do it, so can you.

Pray for the people and animals in the Ukraine.

Having a pet is a fantastic experience, but do you know the scary part of having an animal? It is taking the pet to the vet. Like many of us, they are also afraid of visiting doctors. They cannot express their feelings with words as we do. But, the Carroll County Veterinary Clinic in Westminster, [....

🛇 Use your Manners! 🛇
The Sniff test - Stop doing that!
The sniff test - a badly engrained habit that society has been taught, without a clear understanding of what they're actually doing.

🚩When you reach out towards a dog, you are using body pressure AT them, giving them no time to assess whether you are safe & whether they require further investigation to pick up your information. You are forcing an interaction of a relationship that hasn't had time to develop. To some dogs, this is quite rude & the reason a lot of dogs snap at or bite people. This can cause alot of behavioral issues because of layered stress due to forced interactions.

🚩If they are on lead, they have no where to go if they are sensitive to spacial pressure, so can end up shutting down, shying away or snapping at your hand so you back off. This is an example of how a dog is now using pressure to turn off pressure & make you back off so they aren't so stressed.

🚩People think by offering your hand it can give the dog time to sniff to know you're friendly... they can sniff without being forced to sniff your hand.Their noses are far more superior than ours & they don't need close contact forced upon them to smell you.

🚩Some dogs might not want to know you. You have no relationship with them and that's perfectly fine. They aren't your dog so you don't need to touch them or steal pats for your own satisfaction.

🤔 If you are meeting a dog, what should you do?
⚠Ask the owner if you can interact with their dog. Not all people want strangers touching their dogs. Especially strangers who you are unlikely to see again.
⚠Stand up straight & relaxed, with your hands at your side.
⚠Ignore the dog & talk to the owner.
⚠Don't stare at the dog & don't try to force an interaction by going in for a pat. If the dog wants to know you, it will come up to you & sniff around. Usually they will move away & then come back for a second sniffathon. Some dogs will bunt your hands & wag their tails, which are good signs that you're likely an accepted new friend. Give them a few slow pats down their back (NOT THEIR HEAD) & then stop. Is the dog happy? Has it accepted your interaction? This will determine whether you can give it more pats.

🐶This is a more stress free option for dogs & a reason why in consultations we can develop a good level of trust, especially with fearful dogs & aggressive dogs, without a bunch of negative side effects from forced interactions.

CHINA PUGS UPDATE ❤️

We only have 41 pugs left at our Safehouse outside of Chengdu, China!!

It was over 70 after we brought the first 29 here at the first opportunity that arose - through Korea. But now over 30 pugs will be flying in a few days to a couple rescues in the United States. As you know I welcomed ALL rescues to join us on this mission to take any amount of pugs they can. Several pug rescues answered our call: we want to thank Tiny Paws, Pacific Pug Rescue, Pug Rescue of Northern California, Bluegrass Pug Rescue for taking a couple pugs each, and Nashville Pug Rescue for taking one. Some rescues contributed financially to the $65,000 ($60,000 paid to the Chinese shipping company and $5000 paid in customs and broker tees on arrival) that The Pug Queen Foundation paid to to fly the 29 pugs here, some were not able to and that’s ok as we are deeply grateful for everyone’s help!

Another rescue wanted to take several pugs but they wanted to pay the shipping company directly, instead of reimbursing our foundation, but sadly that was not possible because the shipping company wanted only one payment to avoid multiple transaction fees and since the project account was in my name the full $60,000 had to come from me at one time. I offered all of the info and the actual wire transfer documents to that rescue but somehow they found it not sufficient/transparent. I told them they are welcome to take some of our pugs who are still there directly from Sister Ke and pay directly for the flights. And so they are. All the babies they are getting are OUR pugs - ours from our safehouse for which we have paid 2 years rent and babies we have been caring for since July 2019. It doesn’t matter if they are our pugs, or that we have paid for their care, all that matters to me is that these babies are getting OUT OF CHINA in a few days! I am glad to have began rescuing pugs from China over 3 years ago! Over 100 pugs brought here to date! And I am glad to have raised awareness and inspired other rescues to follow in my footsteps.

That now leaves only 41 pugs in our Safehouse! And I want to get those babies out of there ASAP - before the only airline flying pugs now decides to ban them.

I am looking to temporarily rent a pet hotel a boarding place, any place where we can bring the pugs to get them before they go to adopters, fosters, other rescues. I know many dog boarding places are struggling now so if you know of one in LA area we can rent in it’s entirety - to accommodate 20 or so pugs PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!

We need to complete this mission. The babies have waited long enough. In December 2019 we were only able to get 19 out before airlines cancelled all the flights. We got 29 out this November the minute it became possible. Then Air China banned flights again this December but now they finally are back on and we must get them all out before that changes yet again!

Look at these faces ... some blind, some with one eye, some seniors, many with luxating patellas, ALL NEEDING US! All coming here!

LETS DO THIS!!!!

As we head into the beginning of summer and look forward to warmer days. We would like to remind everyone to check the temperature of the pavement before walking your dogs. If it's too hot for you it's too hot for your pup's paws.

This is how hot it gets in your car. DO NOT LEAVE PETS IN VEHICLES, EVEN FOR A FEW MINUTES TAKE THEM WITH YOU
