MPR is dedicated to promoting responsible Pit Bull ownership, educating the public, tackling pet overpopulation, fighting unfair legislation, and finding loving homes for these incredible dogs.

Gypsy is a 3 year old German Shepherd with a gorgeous sable coat. She weighs in at 62 lbs and is a very gentle, calm and affectionate girl.

Gypsy is doing great with leash walking and crate training. She has a male German Shepherd as a foster sibling and they are becoming fast friends. Gypsy is also fostered with a cat and is curious but give the cat its space. Gypsy is a sweet dog and would make an incredible family pet.

All UMDR dogs are up to date on monthly preventatives, spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Toronto is in need of a new foster or adopter by June 19! This sweet boy enjoys taking things slow when meeting new people, but once you have gained his trust and love, he becomes incredibly loyal. Toronto will stick by your side as if you were the only person in the world for him.

Toronto is housebroken, crate trained, and even enjoys watching Paw Patrol and Seinfeld while in his crate. Like many dogs, Toronto thrives on a predictable routine. He adores going for walks and playing with his balls. He knows commands like "sit," "get your ball," "bring me the ball," and "where's your ball." He also comprehends cues like "outside," "walk," and "play ball." While he may tug on the leash initially, Toronto soon settles into a nice pace and becomes a fantastic walking companion.

Let's help find a new foster or adopter for Argentina before she has to return to the shelter! When Argentina first came into our care, she had been through a lot - she had been shot, had a dislocated elbow, and was extremely fearful of people. However, with time and patience in a foster home, she has truly blossomed. Once she trusts you, Argentina will shower you with unconditional love for a lifetime.

Argentina is 2 1/2 years old, weighs 50-55 lbs, is potty trained, crate trained, and is friendly with other dogs (though unsure about cats). She has a low to medium energy level and knows commands like sit, down, here, touch, and is currently learning off and leave it.

Argentina would do well in a less active family that can give her the time and patience she needs to adjust to new members. Teenagers and older family members would be a good fit for her. Additionally, a confident older dog in the household could help Argentina continue to grow, develop, and mature.

How the Kong ball was invented.

The Kong toy was invented by accident more than 40 years ago when Joe Markham needed a way to prevent his German Shepherd Fritz from biting on rocks and sticks. Fritz, who Markham adopted as a shelter dog, had worn down his teeth to one-third of the size they should have been.

He was working on his vehicle and tossed an axle stop with an attached bracket on the ground. His dog got hold of it and loved it. He was playing with it joyously, much to Markham’s amusement.

He said to his friend, “What do you think of my new dog toy?”

His friend replied, “Actually, it’s not too pretty. It looks like an earplug from King Kong.”

And the Kong toy was born☝😉
