Mama is just about done nursing she really doesn’t want to nurse, though she does ask to go in and see the babies and then she doesn’t know what to do. Some moms can get quite aggressive and not allow the puppies to nurse. This one just runs away!

Our sweet Pathways Homeless Shelter foster, Little One, was hit by a car last week. No broken bones but the skin was torn off her lower leg. Dr. Jensen at Española Humane performed her surgery. She had a check up today and the leg is looking good. There may be a small area of necrotic tissue that will slough off and heal, otherwise we should be ok! An injury like this requires a visit to the Shelter Vet every other day. We are ok with that! Nicole is fostering this one but I have her for couple of days. Such sweetness! Mom has pretty much quit her job. She doesn’t want to nurse them anymore. It’s not surprising. They have moved onto puppy milk and kibble and they now range from 4 pounds 6.8 ounces to 4 pounds 13.8 ounces. Three of the boys weigh 4 pounds 10.8 ounceswith Skyler now being the smallest boy at 4 pounds 7.8 ounces and Sadie being the smallest of them all at 4 pounds 6.8 ounces so they’re all pretty close. Sienna is smaller overall size but she’s a little tank. And Stella is now the largest of the bunch.

This adorable, sweet, smaller pittieX boy is looking for a special someone give him a second chance. He was recently taken to one of our wonderful vet clinics to be euthanized because his owner never gave him the structure and training he needs. He’s great with other dogs, he’s afraid of cats, he is super sweet. He just doesn’t know what he is supposed to do. He is eight months old and only weighs 32 1/2 pounds. Best guess is he will top out at probably 45- 50 pounds max.  we suspect with a consistent training schedule he will be a wonderful companion. If you are interested in adopting him, he is fully vaccinated and neutered so he is ready to go! Call or text 505-699-0334. They are calling him “cowboy.”

Tonight we started on some puppy milk, soaked kibble. Weigh-ins are now every other day and only one puppy, I think it was Sutton, the white one with the brown on his head, gained an appropriate amount of weight. One of the puppies had stalled and the others gained just a little bit. They are 3 1/2 weeks and they have teeth and that’s when it starts to get uncomfortable for mom. She still has plenty of milk but she’s not feeding as often as she might. So we’ll just supplement mom‘s milk and mom just chowed down the puppy food and that’s fine. It’s good for her too

3weeks

Milestone number two. They aren’t even two weeks old yet and they are starting to walk. It takes some time for them to develop the strength to really walk, but this is early.

Oh, once again, I don’t know why when I shoot video it sometimes is the wrong orientation even though I always shoot it from the same orientation anyway here is the bundle of cuteness this morning.

It is Roady’s big day!! Today we are convening at the Shelter first to have his follow up the evaluation and his sutures removed. Then, he gets to go home with his new mom. When I first picked him up and posted him to see if he had an owner, Jean immediately sent me a text asking if he was going to be available for adoption. I told her I had to know he was going to survive and, what the extent of his injuries were . I asked why she was interested. Her response was that Roady looked just like her dog who had passed away a couple of years ago on the operating table after being hit by a car. I still get goosebumps the story. I told her that he’s her dog . We have been in contact throughout his surgery and recovery. I have offered to meet for her to meet him. She said she didn’t need to in the photos. You can see this guy and I don’t mean his physical body, but you can see his spirit which is soft and gentle . He is an absolutely darling dog. Still a puppy and he still has a way to go, but here’s a video of our first two weeks post surgery. Go Roady!
