As a Shelter Liaison, you'll play a vital role in monitoring shelters, spotting these precious pups, and ensuring they get the second chance they deserve. Don’t worry if you’re new—we’ll provide all the training you need, including how to navigate the websites and contacts.

We got an urgent call from the Hayward shelter about a six-year-old cocker spaniel in desperate need. Sweet Pookie had come in with a broken back leg, and our hearts broke for him. We didn’t hesitate, we said yes immediately and rushed to bring him to safety.

At the vet, we learned that Pookie’s injury had been left untreated for far too long. The damage was severe, and the only way to ease his pain now is to amputate the leg.

Through it all, Pookie has been nothing short of amazing. Despite the pain he’s endured, he’s incredibly sweet, friendly, and loving. He’s the kind of dog who melts your heart with just one look - and what a handsome boy he is!

We’ve scheduled Pookie’s surgery as soon as possible, and with your kindness, he’ll be on his way to recovery and ready to find his forever family. Your donation, no matter the size, will make a world of difference. It will help cover his surgery, care, and the fresh start he so desperately deserves.

PUPDATE: Franco ( now called Tucker) is doing fantastic! He is such a sweet soul, but a little intimidated about the outside world. So we mostly do quiet activities that he’s comfortable with, and we’re working with a trainer to help build his confidence. He has a little brother now (another Doxie mix) and they recently started nose work class together!

A Year of Challenges, A Call for Hope
As the years roll by, the face of rescue continues to change. One heartbreaking trend we’ve seen is people abandoning their pets in fields and orchards, walking away and leaving them to fend for themselves. Just recently, we took in four purebred Cockers and two Cocker mixes who were discarded in this way.
While it’s devastating to witness, we’re so grateful to have the resources—and your support—to step in and give these dogs the second chance they deserve.
Since COVID, adoptions have been steadily declining, but this year has been the hardest we’ve faced. Despite the challenges, we remain steadfast in our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Cockers in need.
As 2024 comes to a close, we’re asking for your help to ensure we can continue this life-saving work. Your donation can provide medical care, food, and shelter for dogs who have been abandoned and neglected. Together, we can turn their stories of loss into stories of hope.

Something amazing happened this week. Ms. Haleigh and Miss Taylor's class from Sommerville Elementary school ran a fund raising project this year & chose Second Chance Spay/Neuter Clinic as their charity. The whole class sold doggy biscuits & raised $340 in one week! These kids Rock!!!

Bring Joy to a SCCR Rescue Dog This Holiday Season!

The holiday season is a time for love, warmth, and togetherness, and we at Second Chance Cocker Rescue want our precious rescue dogs to feel that too. Through our "Home for the Holidays" program, we’re hoping to match our dogs with loving foster or forever homes this season.

For some of these sweet pups, this could be their first experience of love, comfort, and belonging. By opening your heart and home—even for just a short time—you can give them a gift they’ll never forget.

Not only will this mean the world to our dogs, but it also helps us learn more about their personalities and needs in a home environment, so we can find their perfect forever family.

If you’re not able to foster or adopt, we are always grateful for donations to help support our rescue efforts. Every little bit makes a big difference!
