Last Chance Rescue Last Chance Rescue is a no-kill, cage-less animal rescue in Northwest Indiana. If you are interested in meeting one of our pets, we will bring them to you!

We do not have a facility that is open to the public. Our goal is to match our loving animals with equally loving and responsible adopters. We also help those considered "not adoptable" by socializing, rehabilitating and regaining the trust of pets who have been abused or injured. We believe every animal deserves a chance—healthy pets should not be euthanized simply because they are older or have

physical or behavioral issues. Last Chance is committed to reducing pet overpopulation and educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering. We also promote the prevention of cruelty to animals. All of our animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. Dogs are heart worm-tested and take heartworm preventative. Our cats are tested for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). Descriptions and photos of our adoptable pets are on Petfinder here: https://www.petfinder.com/member/us/in/schererville/last-chance-rescue-inc-in325/

Adoption applications can be completed and submitted here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeGV0TsBJJn6tVU1NWl6b1WoS2cAIZAIFUL1F1UtczE6x2jJg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Einstein, Tootsie Pop, and Nikoli and their other five siblings were born on August 2, 2023, in a motel room. The couple who had the puppies' mother, a rat terrier, had moved to Northwest Indiana for the husband’s new job, and they were staying in a motel while house-hunting.

Once the eight puppies were weaned, and after one puppy was given to a friend, Last Chance Rescue took in the other seven. When vetting of the puppies was completed, we sent four puppies to their new adoptive forever homes.

This past year, adoptions have decreased. Nevertheless, the rescue still receives hundreds of calls from people wanting to surrender animals. As a result, we still have three of the puppies: Einstein, Nikoli, and Tootsie Pop.

The puppies' father was a lab mix and the mother was a rat terrier. The pups have never shown aggression towards people or other friendly dogs. They are shy when first meeting new people, but never aggressive, until you earn their trust. They are very cute, smart, playful, and sometimes mischievous. They love to play with toys and give kisses. They are total wiggle-butts!

Einstein is 37 pounds; Nikoli is 38 pounds, and Tootsie Pop is 29 pounds. Please note: They have reached their full size and weight.

Because they are young and like to play and run, they would do best with a fenced yard. They are very bonded with each other and feel comfortable and secure together, so we would love to adopt all three together, but we know that might not be possible. We are willing to negotiate adoption fees to anyone who would be willing to adopt two or all three, because we want them to be happy and well cared for. We will consider separating them if there is another friendly dog in the home.

If you are interested in adopting these two cuties, please complete our adoption application on our website, lcrescue.org. Once you have completed the application, you will received your application as an email. Please forward the email to us: [email protected] and text us to let us know you have done so: 219-677-2961.

From Cherie:

Kathleen Pazanin is one of those rare individuals who is totally committed to her work with animals. She does not just “talk the talk,” but “walks the walk.” Rescue is hard physically, emotionally and financially, but it is not about “us,” it is all about the animals, and that is “our” motivation every day.

For all of you who have ever experienced personally, or have had a family member or friend who had a serious illness or traumatic injury, you know that just getting up in the morning and getting dressed takes a tremendous amount of effort. Having experienced invasive surgery and now facing chemo has to be devastating. Kathleen needs all of our prayers and as much financial support as possible.

URGENT! FOSTER HOME OR ADOPTION NEEDED IMMEDIATELY!

Friends, we have an urgent need, so if you can't help, please SHARE this post.

Lexi came to us 10 years ago and was adopted to a wonderful home, where she was loved and cared for well.

Recently, her dad had to go into an assisted living facility and was unable to take Lexi with him. His daughter took Lexi into their home, but because she has lived as an only dog for years, she has not been good with their other dog. The family has come to the realization that they can not keep her, as it is not fair to the resident dogs, nor to Lexi.

Lexi is loving with people, but needs to be the only pet. We have nowhere to put her, since she can’t be with our other little dogs either.

Lexi is a Shih Tzu mix, born in 2013. She is 14 pounds and housebroken. Lexi has one eye, which doesn't slow her down!

If interested, please text or leave a message for Cherie: 219-677-2961, or apply by our adoption form: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=sXcBbTwVm0uePbQPbFfgNE8P3_MDgLhNnElxFrUTquBURU5ZQUtIOVA2RFBKTTNOWUdIR0ZMMEU4UC4u

March is National Poison Prevention Month.

Today, we're sharing a quick list of top toxic items to watch out for and exactly what to do if your pup accidentally comes in contact with them.

6 Toxic Houseplants 🌱

Peace lily
Snake plant
Sago palm
Hyacinth
Poinsettia
Jade plant

6 Toxic Human Foods 🍫

Coffee
Nuts & other high-fat foods
Grapes & raisins
Onions & garlic
Cooked bones
Xylitol (An artificial sweetener found in many foods & supplements)

6 Toxic Household Items 🐀

Topical hair loss solutions
Fabric softener sheets
Fertilizer
Antifreeze
Rodenticides & insecticides
Many essential oils (like tea tree & peppermint)

STEP 1: If possible, get a sample

It may not always be possible — but bringing a sample of whatever toxic item your dog came into contact with or a photo of the label can be a big help.

That way, you can be ready to provide specific ingredients and other information to your veterinarian if needed.

STEP 2: Call Animal Poison Control

Your first instinct may be to head straight to your veterinarian — and that’s a GREAT choice.

But while you’re in the waiting room or driving over, I recommend calling the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Hotline at (888) 426-4435.

This hotline puts you into contact with toxicology specialists who can work with your veterinarian to figure out the best steps to help your dog.

STEP 3: Go to the veterinarian or emergency clinic ASAP

If your dog has eaten or come into contact with something toxic — I recommend taking them to the veterinarian immediately.

After all, your veterinarian will know exactly how to help your pup in a crisis.

Here’s another important tip: find a local emergency veterinary clinic in your area as well as your dog’s primary vet.

That way, you’re covered if something happens to your dog outside of your veterinarian’s normal office hours, too.

Levi and Lilli were abandoned by people who moved out of a house and left them in a cage in the basement.

The new tenant was moving in and heard whimpering from the basement and discovered them in the cage, which was full of excrement and had no food or water.

She cleaned them up and kept them for five years, but she recently had to take in an elderly, disabled relative and had to move to an apartment better suited for the relative’s care. So she can no longer keep Levi and Lilli.

Levi and Lilli are very bonded, as they are probably siblings. They must be adopted together.

Levi is 18 pounds and Lilli is 14 pounds. They are Cairn Terrier mixes, born in 2017.

They would probably do best in an adult household. While they get along with other dogs, they can get bossy or food-protective.

They are sweet and affectionate with people, like to play with toys, and are grateful for some TLC.

If you are interested in adopting these two cuties, please complete our adoption application on our website, lcrescue.org. Once you have completed the application, you will received your application as an email. Please forward the email to us: [email protected] and text us to let us know you have done so: 219-677-2961.

Just a reminder as we approach Valentine's Day and the Easter season: Be careful of flowers -- including all lilies -- that are poisonous to cats. Chocolate is deadly to dogs. Any product containing the sweetener XYLITOL - as in some peanut butters, and other products - is deadly to dogs and cats.

About 2.5 years old
