Lameness is a symptom of pain

Limping is a symptom of pain and more times than not if your dog is limping, it’s because it hurts. One of the most common injuries in the dog is a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament and many dogs will display a waxing and waning lameness of a rear leg. History of the injury is typical of playing or doing something physical, coming up limbing, going to the veterinarian, getting meds, and limping gets better. However, the limping may come back, especially after intense exercise and/or rest. It may only last a few steps, then appear to get better. Surgery may not be an option for you and your dog due to financial, logistic and/or health reasons.
