A bridge is by nature designed to carry people and freight from one place to another, to join two places, foster a connection.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge carried workers for nearly a half century—to steel mills, sugar refineries, offices downtown. It was being repaired by middle of the night laborers filling potholes so day workers would have a safer ride to their jobs. When tragedy strikes, we become one, connected to each other, like a bridge. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by today’s tragedy just down the river from where we stand.

Look, up in the clouds! It's a star! No, it's a raven! NO! It's SINNERMAN!

Sent by his parents from his fascist alien homeworld of Dictopia to seek out a better, freer life uncontrolled by an elite oligarchy, young Mon-grel's ship chose Earth, seeing in it a world much like his planet, though not too far gone down the wrong path to be saved. Landing in the Chesapeake Bay and shrunken and disguised as an oyster, years passed while the pearl inside matured from a boy to a man, simultaneously being fed the world's culture, particularly the outlaw, rebellious subcultures of the blue-green marble.

Once free, however, the new arrival, feeling the heady taste of freedom, went a little, let's say, buck wild, indulging all his desires, though he eventually learned control, that bit of wildness stayed in him. Seeing that the world was going down the same path his birthplace did, he decided someone must step up and thus Sinnerman was born!

Armed with Dictopian SinRay Vision, that lets him see the sins of anyone he chooses, and able to blow the mighty Wind of change, that gives those who feel it's flowing past them the strength and confidence to resist the temptation and, just like his adopted hometown's name, Bmore, he donned the black and gray cape, suit, boots, snakeskin belt and web of sin bandana. He cruises the night sky, the absorbed moonlite in his veins giving him superstrength, nigh-invulnerability and the ability to fly, fighting for Truth, Justice, and the Pragmatic Way wherever his shade-covered, crescent-shaped eyes should spot the need.

Supported through his employment and, later, ownership of the seedy"Hotel Crabshell" flophouse hotel on the outskirts of town that smells of ci******es and regrets, coffee and ennui, he knows now that sinners make the best saints. With a cry of "Rise, rise, and rebel", he shoots into the sky, backlit by the neon Hotel Crabshell sign with the eternally flickering but most appropriate "Crabs" blacked out, leaving only "Hotel Hell", often accompanied by his canine compatriots in The Justice Mob(Mutts of Baltimore):
-Zulu "Zoomer the Speed Breed"
-Brandy "Mugshot" the sniper
-Mina Marvel, the powerhouse
-The inseparable Pinny, The Golden Guardian and Fish, the Domino Detective
-Pigtown's escaped experiments Winston(P.I.G. or Punishment in Gold) and Zoro(S.W.I.N.E. or Superheroic Warrior in Neighborhood Environments)
-Saint(Sancto the Superdog)

**EMERGENCY FOSTER OPEN HOUSE TUES 10/17**

BARCS was 32 dogs over capacity today. Typically in these moments, we come to our supporters to beg and plead for adopters. However, we are realizing that asking people to show up to our shelter on a whim and adopt is a heavy lift and something that the majority of our supporters cannot do. It’s okay, we don’t blame or fault anyone for that. But, we do need to save these dogs–with numbers like we have seen in recent months, every single dog in our shelter is now at risk for euthanasia if we don’t turn the tide immediately.

So, we’re trying something different. Tomorrow, Tuesday, 10/17 we are hosting 3 emergency foster open-house classes. Come down to our shelter, learn about what it means to foster, ask questions, talk to our staff and then you’ll go pick out whatever dog speaks to your heart. We can help match you up with the right one for your situation. If you learn it’s not right for you, that’s okay too! We would still love for you to join us and find out.

How long do you need to hold on to this dog? That’s up to you. Any open cage means two lives preserved: the dog you took home to foster and the next one inevitably coming in tomorrow. Realistically, if you can hang on to the dog through the weekend (or even bring them to one of our big adoption events this week or weekend) you will be a hero.

What do you need to do? Come to BARCS tomorrow for one of the following open house/info events:

2:00-3:30PM
4:00-5:30PM

So, as I pulled up to my first stop of the morning, blasting James Brown's "Living in America" for all to enjoy on this most appropriate of days, an old school looking black gentleman paused as he passed my car, looked at me and said "James Brown?!? You're too young, you young bucks don't know nothing 'bout that!" I smiled at him and said "Aww, get up offa that thing! Don't you know papa's got a brand new bag?!?" What else could I say?
