About our dog walking service

We specialize in group dog walking. The walks are 1 hour long with 4-8 dogs per dog walker. We pr

efer to walk in nature, walking around Spring Lake or along Santa Rosa Creek. We introduce 1 dog at a time to the group allowing the new dog to learn from the seasoned walkers. We provide the leashes and collars for our walking system assuring all dogs will be safe and comfortable. We also provide the transportation. The cost is $25.00 per 1 hour walk, coupled with the transportation time we often have your dog for 2-3 hours. Group dog walking is a natural behavior for dogs, even the most timid or fearful dog thrive in the pack environment. And reactive or dogs with aggression issues often have these issues resolved by absorbing and being influenced by the calm energy of the pack. 100% of dogs love it! Many of the dogs stay after the walk for our afternoon socialization. There is an addition $10.00 fee for this service.

Please! Help share this post! 3 dogs lives depend on it!

Unfortunately local dog rescues do not assist with owner surrenders or owners needing help re-homing their dogs. Their focus are on shelter dogs scheduled for euthanasia. So I’m hopeful that if many people share this post the right person or persons will see and adopt these wonderful dogs.

Looking for 3 forever homes for 3 border collie/cattle dog mixes.

These 3 dogs have been living alone in an abandoned travel trailer. Their owner died 6 months ago while living on a goat and pig ranch in Lake County. After her death, the dogs were being fed by a Good Samaritan who knew of the owners death. Although the Good Samaritan stopped by periodically to fill up their food and water bowls, the visits where short. The abandoned trailer they lived in had a dog run pushed up to the door of the trailer, allowing the dogs to sleep in the trailer and to have access to the small outdoor run during the days. For 6 months the dogs lived alone without the love, care and companionship of a human owner.

A week ago, a relative of the deceased owner drove to Lake County to rescue the dogs. The dogs are now in Santa Rosa, but the rental home has no yard except a small cement patio where the dogs spend their time day and night. Unfortunately the relatives are not able to care for them much longer.

A vet visit on the 7th of February evaluated the dogs each to be around 6-7 years old, with no major health concerns except for some minor dental issues. All 3 received Distemper/Parvo and Rabies vaccinations, as well as heartworm/giardia and f***l testing.

I went to meet the dogs on Saturday the 8th. All 3 dogs were friendly, social and enjoyed having visitors. None are reported to have any aggressive tendencies.

Please, if you are interested in adopting one of these dogs, or know of someone who might be, please contact me either through FaceBook, email or phone.

Thank you for reading and sharing this post.

INFLUENCING DOG BEHAVIOR

People often ask me how I can manage so many dogs without conflicts. To me it’s always been second nature. For most people, not much thought is given to how dogs live in a world of communication different than ours. Although dogs can learn verbal commands and words, it’s not their first language, and not all dogs master Human Verbal language equally well. Because of this, 99% of the time I communicate with them in their “Native Tongue”. What is that? Body language and energy. For many people this is a hard concept to grasp. Learning a new language especially as an adult can be much more challenging than when we’re young. For me, I learned how dogs communicate when I was a young child through observation and application. It has contributed to my ability to help and care for many countless dogs, not only during my 30 year career as a veterinary technician, but currently as a pet sitter and canine behavior consultant.
However, learning how to communicate with dogs in their own language is only one part of the equation in influencing dog behavior. Another extremely important concept will be discussed in my next post.

Key Facts about Canine Influenza (Dog Flu) | Seasonal Influenza (Flu) | CDC

Canine Influenza is spreading in California. Dogs that are in a higher risk category of being exposed to the virus are those who spend time in social environments such as kennels or boarding facilities, doggie daycare, dog parks and even grooming facilities.

What are signs of canine influenza infection in dogs?

The signs of this illness in dogs are cough, runny nose, fever, lethargy, eye discharge, and reduced appetite, but not all dogs will show signs of illness. The severity of illness associated with canine flu in dogs can range from no signs to severe illness resulting in pneumonia and sometimes death.

Most dogs recover within 2 to 3 weeks. However, some dogs may develop secondary bacterial infections which may lead to more severe illness and pneumonia. Anyone with concerns about their pet’s health, or whose pet is showing signs of canine influenza, should contact their veterinarian.

How serious is canine influenza infection in dogs?

The percentage of dogs infected with this disease that die is very small. Some dogs have asymptomatic infections (no signs of illness), while some have severe infections. Severe illness is characterized by the onset of pneumonia.

These 4 year old sibling Bostons Terriers (Elvis & Priscilla) need to be re-homed. They're well behaved but sadly the owner needs to re-home them due to unexpected circumstances. They should stay together.

During our group dog walk, many concerned observers bring to our attention that one of our dogs is limping. Ossian, an Australian Cattle Dog mix, seen on the far right hand side, has a permanent limp, either from an injury during puppyhood or a birth defect, we may never know. But it doesn't stop him from enjoying his group dog walks with all his friends. The exercise keeps his defective leg strong and prevents atrophy from lack of use.

Summer time brings many pleasant outdoor activities for our dogs. Along with the fun comes dreaded flea season. Although fleas can live year round in our homes, the warm summer weather brings a population explosion that can result in a flea infestation on our pets and in our homes. Did you know that only 5% of the fleas are adults. 95% are pre-adults and are unseen in our homes!

Our new dog walker, Shirlee, has joined Yuki and myself on our Tuesday walks along the Santa Rosa Creek system and doggy social play afterwards. Shirlee is available to pick up dogs in Windsor. If you know of any dog owners in the Town of Windsor whose dog would benefit from the group dog walk please let them know about our service. For $25.00 we pick up the dogs, walk them, allow them to play for awhile then take them back home. We do not discriminate. All dogs are welcomed because we teach them proper behavior. And the dogs love us for it.

Our creek system allows us to walk in nature, and keeps us away from traffic. We do have to be on the watch for squirrels as these critters can excite our dogs. Yesterdays walk ended along Piner Creek.

09/01/2015

Yesterday, after the group dog walk, we let the dogs socialize for awhile. For most dogs, after walking together as a pack, socializing is a natural and tension free activity.

One day last week Yuki and I did not expect the rain to come until later in the day. Halfway through our walk the rain drops began, light at first, then a down pour. We actually enjoy walking in light rain but this was way too much! The dogs handled it much better than we did. Tonight a powerful storm will arrive. We are expecting high winds, heavy rains, thunder and lightening, with expected power outages, fallen trees and possibly flash floods. In lieu of walking we will have a doggie play date tomorrow instead.

13/11/2014

Yuki and I just finished our wonderful group walk on this beautiful fall day after an evening of light rain. All the dogs were happy to get out and stretch their legs with their friends. Even little Aimee, my 4 month puppy, joined our group and enjoyed every minute of the walk!

Fridays' group dog walk at Spring Lake. Introducing Tanner and Luna, a male and female Toller. Are you familiar with this breed?

The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, or Toller for short, is a medium-sized breed of gundog bred primarily for hunting. It is the smallest of the retrievers, and is often mistaken for a small Golden Retriever. Tollers are known to be intelligent, alert, high-energy dogs. Tollers get their name because of their ability to lure waterfowl within gunshot range. The breed originated in southwestern Nova Scotia, Canada, where they were used for tolling and retrieving ducks.

As a volunteer at Greendog Rescue, a service we provide is to allow the adoptive dog to go home with the potential adopter for an overnight visit before finalizing the adoption. This gives both adopter and adoptee the opportunity to confirm the adoption is a good fit. Unfortunately last night one dog escaped from her overnight visit. Please read below and keep your eyes out for IVY.

Sonoma County Facebook supporters - please help us, Ivy has gone missing in Cloverdale area and we need to find her. If you have friends in the area please share this post. She got out of the home she was visiting last night and has not been seen since.

She is a 2 year old Basset Fauve de Bretagne and recently had puppies 8 weeks ago.

She is 25 lbs and very very shy, please call us if you see her 707-433-4377.

Picture of Ivy with her puppies and the second photo is Giselle (Ivy's sister, to give you a sense for her look).

Great news! This year the Spring Lake Water Bark Dog Swim will be held every weekend in September from 9:30AM - 6:00PM!

The swimming lagoon at Spring Lake Regional Park turns into an off-leash dog park for every weekend in September. Well-behaved dogs are invited to swim in the lagoon and romp on the beach Sept. 6-7, Sept. 13-14, Sept. 20-21, and Sept. 27-28.
This event is sponsored by the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation, which requests donations of $3 per dog for Regional Parks’ members and $5 per dog for non-members. All proceeds benefit the Foundation, which supports Regional Parks’ programs and operations. Some sponsors will be hosting booths this weekend.
Sponsored by AcCounting on Computers, Paradise Pet Resorts, Western Farm Center, Green Valley Consulting Engineers, Sonoma County Waste Management Agency and Alderbrook Pet Hospital.
