What’s a girl got to do?

Duchess is still looking for a forever home who will love her for her silly faces and pitty noises (pitty owners know what I mean!). She is probably a no for cats at this time, but would love a playful dog or a fenced yard so she can get her playful energy out. Duchess has done well meeting dogs of all sizes and lived with a small older dog for a year. She gives very clear play signals and seems very respectful of other dogs. She is such a lover and wants your attention when she isn’t playing. She has lived with small children and as long as she gets plenty of exercise and play time, can still do so. Her only vice is she loves to jump, but she is young and willing to please.

Stewie is a typical chihuahua in that he wants you to do nothing to him for the first two days. And we mean absolutely nothing, do not even look his way... He has pearly whites and is not afraid to use them. Just let him settle in on his terms and get used to his new environment and new people. It's a big scary world for a little fella. BUT then something magical happens after that you can't do anything without him for the rest of your life. He is like velcro. Like the glue of your life. Your one true companion. Once you are the light of his life, he can't hold his licker....he loves to give kisses and snuggle. Stewie loves food and he will even dance for it. It is the next best thing next to you. We would prefer he have a home with no kids because again of the little rascally chihuahua thing. But if you have older kids he will probably be ok with that if they follow his rules. And it never hurts to put him in his own room or crate if company is coming.

Stewie loves other dogs and loves to play, but has no problem telling them who is in charge as needed. It goes back to that little fella in charge thing. He is cat friendly. Stewie does tend to mark a bit and will wear a wrap but isn't a huge fan. In his current foster home he is slowly but surely showing he is housetrained in order to get out of wearing it.

Reunited and it feels so good!!

King was Adopted by a wonderful family August 24 and now months later, they welcome Queen into the family!! King has settled in very nicely and they have worked through his issues as he adjusted to their home, so they felt now was a good time to welcome his sister in as well. None of us can believe that she has been with us an additional 4 months AFTER her brother was adopted but we have been posting both since May!! Yet here we are and honestly sometimes things work out for a reason. We feel this was the best result possible for Queen and we couldn’t be happier.

Yesterday we had a transport and some meet and greets with forever families! The good news is everyone did wonderful and went to their new homes!! The great news is Queen was adopted and reunited with her brother ❤️ stay tuned for that beautiful adoption update!! We are so happy to start off the new year this way.

Remember you can put in an application and be approved without having a specific dog in mind! With an application on file, we can then begin searching for your perfect companion and share them with you in hopes of finding the ideal fit for your home. This allows us to help more because we know there is a home ready and waiting to take them in!!

Last transport for 2024. We had two dogs and litter of kittens head up the road to our transfer partners. And we helped our friends at our friends at Roanoke Regional Shelter by transporting a large dog for them! They have been at capacity for quite some time. While we are limited to who we can take in our care because we are foster based…we can help save lives other ways!
