Alright, y'all. I don't like being on camera - especially right now when I'm going through pre-skin cancer treatment. But, I really love the Challenge and I know folks are more willing to watch videos (or you could just listen, that would be way better) so here I am, telling you why you should join us.
And if you can't compete, you COULD become a sponsor - we need sponsors, too, to help us put on the event!
The application and rules are at http://www.bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/challenge
And the sponsorship information, including benefits, is at http://www.bluebonnethorseexpo.com/blog/sponsors
Let's make this the best year yet!

Mary (and Scully and Juel) make some of the best arguments for why you should consider doing the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge. I'm so glad Mary found us a few years ago and decided to give us a try!

There are so many great things to say about being involved in horse rescue. I can (and often) do get mushy and gushy about them.
One of the great things is the partnerships we can make. Sol was rescued by Happened by Chance Rescue and then transferred to us to be part of our Training Challenge (partnership #1).
Then, a new trainer, Liza Wadsworth, signed up for the Challenge and was assigned Sol (partnership #2). She learned about us from Jennifer Matthews Williams at Heart of Texas Equestrian Academy where she trains. Jennifer has been a long-time Bluebonnet supporter (partnership #3).
And then Sol was adopted by Debbie B who had previously competed in the Training Challenge (partnership #4).
All these great partnerships lead to getting Sol to her perfect home, and getting Debbie her next riding, pleasure, and competition horse. And all of that is a beautiful thing!
In case you missed it, I'm introducing you to a horse a day (at least most days!) who is available for adoption and hoping to start the new year with his or her own family.
Today's horse is James. He was in the 2022 Training Challenge, adopted, and then recently returned because his adopters didn't really have time to train a youngster.
James came to Bluebonnet in 2021 along with his dam from a neglect case. He was weaned then so they could both get the individual care they needed.
Since then, James has had a good life. He's gotten to get to know people, learned a lot of great ground manners and in hand skills, and has hung out with other horses. I'm currently fostering him, and he's out with my mares and geldings and is about in the middle of the herd. He gets along pretty well with most of the horses and avoids the more dominant geldings.
He's about 14.1 hh now (guestimating, I need to get out the stick) and is a sweet, happy youngster. We're hoping to find him a home who will start working with him on the ground now and not start him under saddle for another year or so to give him time to mature.
James is currently hanging out with me, my adopted horses, and a slew of foster horses in Rosharon, Texas. But he's hoping his stay here is short and he gets adopted soon!
His adoption fee is $700. His Coggins was done in October and his vacciantions and dental was done in November - so he's got his bags packed and he's just waiting on an adopter to come get him!
#GivingTuesday is winding down, but we're still a ways off from our goal. If you could spare a donation, you'll be helping horses like Maple. She came to us in 2020 at the age of 15 and has been adopted and returned twice. We make a promise to be here for each of our horses, for the rest of their lives. So we're still here helping Maple, anytime she needs it.

Foster Home Lisa with Foster Horse Jazzy Jade (who was a Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge contender this year) on why you should give to Bluebonnet today.

During #GivingTuesday, in additional to introducing you to some of the horses, I wanted to talk some about things that go on behind the scenes, and one of those is how things go with taking in owner donated horses. Saying no to owners who are desperate for help is HARD - but when you donate to our fundraiser, you'll let us help more horses and their owners.

Today on #GivingTuesday, we're raising the funds to help horses like Cranberry Sprite and Shiner (video). These two came to us a few years ago, both competed in the Bluebonnet Rescue Horse Training Challenge, and then they were both adopted. Bluebonnet Board Member and their adopter, Jake Whitman, introduces them both.
Your donations will enable us to help more horses like Cranberry Sprite and Shiner get the care and training they need to also find loving adopters. Each horse deserves to have someone to love and care for them, and your donation helps make that happen.

If you are asking yourself why you should support Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society for #GivingTuesday, look at Gumdrop running and bucking for joy (and you might also catch a glimpse of Radar Love, Sir Gallohop, and/or Lollypop wondering why that baby donkey is so silly).
Gumdrop came to us with his dam when he was just a month old. His dam was rescued by another organization, but they were overrun and overwhelmed with horses, so they asked for our help. He went to an experienced foster home where he not only got good care, but he got good handling and training. Last week, he got adopted by a loving family - just what every equine deserves.
Your donation helps create more happy journeys for the horses (and donkeys and mules) who need Bluebonnet.

#GivingTuesday is here and we're raising money to help the horses of Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society! Right now, we're working to raise the first $1,000 - and that first $1,000 in donations will be matched by the Layla (in honor of foster horse Layla) match.
