This past week-end's spay/neuter clinic resulted in 96 dogs and a whopping 242 cats spayed and neutered! These clinics take an insane amount of volunteer work to put together, but seeing that many RESPONSIBLE pet owners makes it worth every minute. You understand that you have a role in not contributing to the severe pet over-population problem in Montana, and you love your pets enough to want to provide the life-long health benefits of spaying and neutering. We are so impressed with you.
Our volunteers are the best around. The organization that brings the Vets to town for these clinics – Spay Montana – always comments on our exceptional volunteers. We have long-time people who always show up, and give up their week-ends for these clinics. They make things run smoothly. There is no way to adequately thank them for their time.
Spay Montana does thousands of spays and neuters every year around the state. They have developed a system and techniques to improve the quality of care. They have a lower complication rate than most private vet clinics. Thanks to them for their dedication to the mission of decreasing the unwanted dog and cat population in the state.
The next clinic in Great Falls will be in August. We will start advertising in about one month.

UPDATE 4/22; There are no more spots for dogs at this clinic. If you have already called, you will be put onto the waiting list for any cancelations. We will be doing another clinic in August. There ARE still a few spots for cats, call 406-452-7729.
The HUMANE SOCIETY OF CASCADE COUNTY'S next LOW-COST SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC is May 11-12! This is for low-income pet owners, and/or for large groups of cats. We are starting to schedule so call NOW, these clinics fill up fast. PLEASE put the phone number into your contacts list so you will answer the phone when we call. We are all volunteers, make it easy for us to reach you. Only call one of these numbers and leave only one message.
1.) If you have MORE than 5 cats, wild or tame, call 406-781-6219. We have a separate program for these colonies, so please call NOW. As soon as the weather is warm enough, we will begin. Traps are available to borrow. Experienced volunteers will help you.
2.) If you have 5 or fewer cats, wild or tame, call 406-452-7729.
3.) If you have dogs, OR BOTH dogs and 5 or fewer cats, call 406-231-4722.

The SPAY NEUTER CLINIC saw 89 dogs and 175 cats spayed and neutered. Unfortunately there was a large number of no-shows, a whopping 23 more dogs and cats could have been done. We are truly impressed with the owners who gave their animals this gift of health. Your pets will live longer, healthier and happier lives because of you. You all did a great job getting your animals there, and helping them get through this. You can pat yourselves on the back for making sure you aren't adding to the severe pet over-population problem. Our volunteers were, as they always are, some of the best people in Great Falls to spend a week-end with. Those who have helped before, you make the clinics go smoothly. Those who were new this time, we hope you had a great week-end and we will see you again. The Air Force and Guard guys who helped with set-up and clean-up, we could not do this without your muscle. Thank-you for joining this community event!

Happy Dog day! Big shout to the 45 dogs, whose owners gave them the best gift. A life free from the urge to constantly procreate. The almost 85 cats done today also think it was a pretty good day.

SECOND UPDATE: The clinic is now completely full. If you called and have not received an appointment call, you are on our waiting list and we will only call you in case of cancellation. UPDATE; the cat clinic is full, but we are trying to get another vet to accommodate the number of people calling.
For the dog clinic, there are 10 spots left for females, and 24 spots for males. If you have called and left a message, we are trying to reach you. If you have calling restrictions on your phone, we take you off the list. You can call again and leave a message, but put us on the accepted caller list. If you are screening your calls, put us in your contacts list so you recognize the number. The schedulers are volunteers, so please make it easy to reach you.

The next LOW-COST SPAY/NEUTER CLINIC is August 27-28. This is for LOW-INCOME PET OWNERS ONLY, for people who don't have ANY OTHER WAY to obtain this care. If you have ONLY CATS that need to be spayed or neutered, call 452-7729. If you have dogs, or both dogs and cats that need to be spayed or neutered, call 231-4722. Put the number in your contacts list so you will recognize the number when we call you to schedule. This is all done by volunteers and there is limited time to call everyone. Please only call one time, we have started scheduling but it takes a while to get to everyone.

Here’s a suggestion for anyone worried about being able to afford vet care if their animals suddenly becomes ill. Start now while your animal is healthy. If you don’t already have a vet pick one and contact the office. Find out if they’ll allow you to start an account where you pay them ahead of time to establish a balance forward. Then every time you have a little extra cash or skip Starbucks for a few days, send them that money even it’s only $10. That money will add up plus it will establish a good faith relationship with the veterinarian. That way when you have an emergency you already have at least part of it paid for and they might be more likely to work with you on a payment plan.
