Monet II Brown is a patient of our Internal Medicine Service. Dr. Von Hendy-Willson (Dr. V) has been managing Monet II's diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease for several years now. He recently started on Solensia, a new medication for management of arthritis in cats, and now enjoys running up and down the stairs again.
Monet II Brown will celebrate his 20th birthday on Feb. 29, 2024, so we had to celebrate his birthday a few days early during his routine check-up. Being a leap year baby is special and Monet II claims he is truly only 5 years old! 🙂

SCAV Conference - Upstate Vet
Last week, Upstate Vet had the opportunity to participate in the annual SCAV conference. We had a booth as well as multiple Upstate Vet speakers! SCAV is the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians which allows veterinary professionals the opportunity to connect through education and resources to help improve veterinary medicine. ❤️
We had so much fun and are already looking forward to next year's conference!
Dash Before and After
Meet Dash! 👋 This amazing kitty presented to Upstate Vet's oncology department last December and was treated with palliative radiation. It has been about a year since Dash's treatment and he is doing wonderful! His owner shared this video of him before and after care with us, along with the following note:
"I just wanted to say thank you so much for what your team did. His recovery was amazing and he celebrated his 14th birthday because of all of your love and dedication. I flew from out of state for your care and I am so thankful I did. Thank you so much again to Dr. Lee and the team for taking a chance on him, it's truly amazing."
We love getting updates on our patients and messages such as this truly makes our day! We are thrilled to see Dash doing so well! ❤️😸

Murphy wants to show everyone what it looks like behind the scenes for a pet getting ready to receive radiation therapy.
There’s no reason to be scared when our team makes the experience full of fun.
The patients learn the routine and, as you can see, get themselves ready for their treatment. ❤️
Our team wants every pet to have as enjoyable an experience as possible - with hugs, kisses, no fear, and all the joy that comes with being in the moment!

Independence Day firework festivities can turn a time of celebration into one of terror for many dogs. 🎆
From a dog's perspective, loud, unpredictable noises accompanied by bright lights are threatening and a cause for alarm. Fortunately, it doesn't have to be that way.
Here are some ways to help your dog keep calm and carry on for a Fear Free Fourth of July. Visit our website: https://bit.ly/3OlQl3E

How's this for your #MondayMotivation💪 🐾
Lula was diagnosed with tonsillar squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) in November 2020. TSCC is an uncommon disease with an aggressive behavior. Our medical oncologist, Dr. Dana Connell, teamed up with our radiation oncologist, Dr. Nathan Lee, to create a treatment plan that would give Lula the best life. And it worked!
We are happy to report that Lula is in remission from her cancer and has had successful bilateral Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) since her radiation therapy concluded. The TPLOs were performed by our board certified surgeon, Dr. Keith Allen.
A TPLO is one of the most common injuries to the knee in dogs, which is the tearing of the cranial cruciate ligament (CCL). This ligament is similar to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in humans.
Needless to say, water therapy has been the best remedy for this sweet pup💝
