We added 15 katahdin cross ewes to the flock today. These girls have been exposed for Fall katahdin lambs and then will be put in with the Australian White Ram for future lambs.

Neighbors questioned our wanting to clear back 30’ on each side. Well this is why we wanted that. Neighbor tree blew over on our brand new fence 😢
Neighbors questioned us wanting to go with high tensile woven wire.
-once we got their tree off pulled the fence back up and good as new just have to add a little tension back and put new clips in the post.

Loving this early Spring weather and longer evenings so I can have some time to enjoy the critters when I get home.

Ran home to check on newest babies. Another set of twins boy/girl set Momma’s not to convinced they are both her’s 😂😂 I’m like they are yours here stay in this little pen until you like her. Well she did let her nurse so maybe they worked it out.

I hate surprise babies!! Nothing like a new born with negative temperature and extreme winds. I’m just glad we found it when we did. Baby spent sometime riding around in the tractor to get warmed up then we bedded down the box stall to keep it out of the wind. I think baby will be just fine, we will have to keep eye on Momma and makes sure she finishes cleaning out.
We like having Fall calves but we had some issues with neighbors Bull and got our girls off track, hopefully we will get them all back to Fall soon.

🥰🥰🥰 Eek 😱 cuteness overload

Do you remember Daisy the bottle baby and the self milk feeder we came up with? Well here she is at 3+ weeks old doing wonderful. No bottle baby belly, no scours, just a fat and sassy little girl. I fill her 32oz heated bottle twice a day with the Hiland Whole milk, Buttermilk and Evaporated Milk mixture. She has free choice feed, minerals, grass hay and water.

Alright lamb bottle feeders here it is!! This is the best way I have found so far to bottle feed. I typically take them to work with me the 1st week but by the end of the week I’m so tired of bottle babies I just want to get rid of them. I have now changed the game!!! This is a heated water bottle for rabbits. It’s a nipple water bottle but the lamb had a problem with it so I took the nipple off my typical feed store bottle and slid it over the nipple. She has successfully been self feeding for 2 days. I have went off and left her for both days without any issues. I am also feeding a store bought whole milk recipe with buttermilk and evaporated milk, I have given her a couple doses of Nutri-Drench for extra vitamins. We keep a pan of feed in her pen for her to nibble on as well. We take her outside at chore times to run and stretch her legs.

Baby is doing well this morning, her swelling has went down a lot. Momma still uneasy at feeding but I don’t know how much is cause we are out there 🤷🏼‍♀️ she will dance around when baby tries to nurse but she is very worried about where the baby is. We tied her up so baby could get a good belly full before we all left for work. I will probably go back around lunch and check on them.

Our Story

Welcome to Our Rainey Farm,

My Husband and I moved to our farm in 2013, together along with our kids we have had many adventures. We started out with me being a stay at home Wife and taking care of our small Black Angus herd and tons of chickens. Later we downsized the chickens and got a small pig herd which we enjoyed for a few years before I took a job at our local Electric Fence store Powerflex Fence. Once I started working out of the house we sold all the small animals and have increased the cattle herd. We now have more Red Angus than Black, we have a few South Pole and Mashona cows as well.
