JJ (2411-1102) 3 year old male lab mix, 50 pounds, house trained, crate trained, dog social, good with kids, playful.

JJ was surrendered due to no fault of his own.

He is a young, fun, and active boy always ready to go. He can be shy at first but will warm up with time. Even when he knows you, he still might startle easily with handling. He is a bit sensitive with his neck, again, with time comes trust.

Although house trained, he still has a few accidents here and there. Please be patient and understanding.

JJ has been known to take advantage of open gates and doors so please be careful!

JJ is crate trained and very dog social. He loves to run and play with others.

Come visit this sweet boy at the Virginia Beach Animal Services 351 S Birdneck Rd, Virginia Beach. 757-385-4444. Open daily 12 to 5. He is currently in a back kennel so if you don't see him when you come in, please just ask!

Picky Ricky (2411-0600) 1-5 years old, 50 pounds, friendly, happy, dog social, found as a stray on S Plaza trail.

Ricky arrived at VBACAC as a stray and has been pretty much the belle of the ball at the shelter so far. He jumps in his kennel in excitement and we know he's just saying TAKE ME OUT! He is very dog social and loves to run and play and chase other dogs.

He def needs some TLC when it comes to his fur which is long, dirty and needs cutting. *Grooming will be a necessity with this boy so please don't forget when considering financial responsibilities and owning a dog.

Ricky has a sort of 'doodle' look about him but we think it might be more appropriate to call him a MUTT! We do this with love, of course.

Ricky is lively and always up for some playtime. He is also one of those big dog sloppy droolers we all love~ LOL right?!?

Ricky will keep you moving and laughing - come on out to meet him at the Virginia Beach Animal Services 341 S Birdneck Rd Virginia Beach. 757-385-4444. Open daily 12 to 5. He is currently in a back kennel so if you don't see him, please just ask!

Corn on the Cob (2410-0686) 1-5 years old, 50 pounds, very nervous, dog social.

CORN ON THE COB arrived at VBACAC as a stray.

*This little pocket size bully is more than adorable even though someone did a number on his poor ears which are barely there now.

*He has a short wonky tail with two bends/breaks in it.

*His sad expression gives a look into his soul, that which is sad, scared, and now in a frightening place. This came out in his distrust of us in the beginning but we are now starting to see a boy who is learning to trust us.

*We are able to leash him up, careful not to move too quickly nor handle him too much. That will take time. He will need time getting used to everything new, home, routine, family.

*Introductions to new people must be proper and in time, not right away. There is no need to push these dogs as they are being put in unfamiliar situations with unfamiliar people. Give them time. Give Corny time.

*Corny is letting down the walls though. I saw a different dog when we were outside in the shelter playgroup. He was smiling, socializing with the other dogs and people. He was running around and seemingly really enjoying himself.

*For now, an adult home might be best as he has to again navigate his way in a new environment and get accustomed to everything around him.

*Corny is showing himself to be a real leaner, lover when he knows you.

He is available at the Virginia Beach Animal Services 341 S Birdneck Rd Virginia Beach. 757-385-4444. Open daily 12 to 5. Corny is currently in a back kennel so if you don't see him, please just ask!

Tresemme (2410-1214) Adult (5-8 year old) Shepherd mix, 60 pounds, shy, good with dogs, found as a stray on Gloria Place.

Tresemme is a nervous girl. After being found as a stray, she's now stuck in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people.

She sniffs a lot, this curious gal, as she gauges this shelter life and is slowly showing us how sweet and friendly she is.

Tresemme is now looking for a new family who is ok with taking it slow, thus allowing her to settle in a new home and routine.

Her pretty black long fur will need caring for and brushing. Her gentle demeanor will require love and attention.

Come. Meet this sweet girl at the Virginia Beach Animal Services 341 S Birdneck Rd Virginia Beach. 757-385-4444. Open daily 12-5 pm. Tresemme is currently in a back kennel so if you’re interested, come on in and ask to meet her!

Jo (2411-1120) 1 year old male Saint Bernard, 120 pounds, house/crate trained, walks good with a harness, treat motivated, knows commands, loves toys/bones, may have some handling sensitivity, NO CHILDREN OR CATS.

*Jo is defintely a big puppy. He has all the puppy behaviors, jumping, grabbing, playing, chewing, and all wrapped up in about 120 pounds, which he doesn't realize.

*Jo needs some training. He needs some consistency and routine.

*He is house trained but may have some accidents as he gets used to a new home and new environment.

*He loves to play and (again puppy here) loves to jump right into you looking for that play. He retrieves toys and balls and loves to play tug. He can be mouthy as well...did I mention puppy behaviors and training? LOL

*Jo does not like cats and will also chase small animals. He will chew anything left unattended in a home...again puppy behaviors and training.

So training these puppy behaviors will go a long way for both you and Jo.

If you are interested and have done your research on this breed or have experience with this breed, come on in to meet him at the Virginia Beach Animal Services 341 S Birdneck Rd Virginia Beach. 757-385-4444. Open daily 12-5 pm. Jo is currently in a back kennel so if you don't see him, just ask!

UPDATE ADOPTED 😊 (2411-0332)
This little girl is a small adult female Terrier who arrived as a worried stray and is now ready for her adoptive home. She is wary of new people and we are recommending a quiet, adult-only home. Come visit her at the Virginia Beach Animal Services 341 S Birdneck Rd Virginia Beach. 757-385-4444. Open daily 12-5 pm.

Diamond (2409-0953) 5-8 years old, 60 pounds, friendly, active, deaf.

Puppies are work as we all know. Adult dogs are so many times experienced living in a home. They don't chew. They don't bark. They don't destroy furniture. They know what it's like to live in a home as a member of a family. With our girl, Diamond, here, I think that's what we have! Diamond is estimated to be 5-8 years old. She is a chunky gal who most likely was in a family as her tummy shows she was not without food. he he I know I know! Diamond was curious in the yard figuring out where she was, who had been out in the yard and what's going on. She is friendly and, clearly, loves treats. She investigated the yard, the toys, the grass and she also would come back to me for attention. She is a lovely girl who will make your walks livelier, your tv shows more enjoyable and your adventures more fun! We don't know how she feels about other animals and will update when we find out more. Come visit Diamond at VBACAC, 341 S Birdneck Road, Virginia Beach .

FOSTER UPDATE! 12/12/23
"We have LOVED having Diamond stay with us this past week. She has been such a joy to have in the house. She's the perfect dog for the working individual/family as she is perfectly fine being by herself during the day, but has no problem just hanging out by your side when you get home from work. She's very loyal and loves to snuggle up in a bunch of blankets next to the couch while you watch tv or do work. She enjoys her walks and does very well on them. When we meet a dog she always wants to say hi and sniff them and greet them. We highly recommend during greetings with other dogs that both she and the other dog be leashed, and in a neutral area where they can greet each other. She's very treat motivated and will play with you if you start playing with her. She enjoys car rides and rolling around in the grass outside. She's also a sucker for belly rubs. She'll walk right up to you and roll onto her side when she wants them. She also does perfectly fine being in a crate, but will still want all her blankets!

If you would. Like to meet her, visit the Virginia Beach Animal Services 341 S Birdneck Rd Virginia Beach. 757-385-4444. Open daily 12-5 pm

Charlie (2410-0060) 12 year old male hound mix, 38 pounds, dog social, active.

*Charlie has had a couple changes in his living situation which has led to his now looking for a new home.

*He is nervous (and startles easily with sounds and people) when it comes to meeting new people but given time and space, he comes around.

UPDATE-ADOPTED ☺️ Freda (2410-1209) 1-5 year old female French Bulldog mix, 40 pounds, shy, came in as a stray.

*You will absolutely melt when you see Freda. She is short. She is stout. She is wrinkly. She stares at you with deep dark eyes, almost asking what the heck is going on.

*It will take a bit for her to get to know you and trust you. Given the time and energy and space, she will be your right-hand-gal when going on walks, car rides, or any other adventure.

*Freda looks as though she's been through a few litters as well. Time to hang up the mommy duties and enjoy her life being spoiled as the baby.

*She followed me around the yard, not wanting to be too far away even though we had just met. I didn't push it. There's time. Take that time.

*Freda is looking for a patient and understanding new family who will accept her as a member of their family.

Come meet her at the Virginia Beach Animal Services 341 S Birdneck Rd Virginia Beach. 757-385-4444. Open daily 12-5 pm. Freda is currently in a back kennel so if you don't see her right away, please just ask!
