Sophie Sue came into Rescue in October, 2023 and is currently 13 years old. Unfortunately, her owner had to go into Hospice and could no longer care for her dear Sophie.
Sophie has a heart murmur and heart valve issues so she is monitored by a Cardiologist and takes heart medications. She also came into Rescue with eye issues (Endothelial Degeneration) and is is being monitored by an Ophthalmologist and is on medications to slow it’s progression.
In this picture, Sophie was heading home after having 3 teeth extracted. Regardless, she does not let her physical issues slow her down. She is living the Life of Riley in her Foster Home and enjoys stealing her Foster Mom’s slipper or flip-flop but never does any damage.
Foster Mom says that Sophie is the sweetest girl who gives great big kisses!

ELLIE BEAN PUPDATE: Well we need Ellie Bean’s prayer warriors on board please. Out of the blue Ellie started turning EXTREME LEFT and her eye was rapidly ticking left right left right back and forth constantly and she was completely losing her balance like a drunk person. Turns out she has developed Idiopathic Peripheral Vestibular Disease. This can happen when inner ear crystals move out of place. Humans can also develop this. For now we are doing positional excercises several times a day to help but we are also going to try chiropractic adjustment and some acupuncture. The vet says we should see some improvement in several days so fingers crossed for our little sloth. She’s made it through so much we hate to see her have to go through this too. She does still have her appetite fortunately. She can’t be left alone for now, she’s just not able to walk with all this vertigo hitting her. Please send prayers her way and of course any help is always much appreciated 🙌❤️ THANK YOU!

Dilly was pulled from a shelter after testing positive for heartworms. BTRFL got him through heartworm treatment and cleared him for adoption. Unfortunately, he later developed cataracts in both eyes. The adopters had him undergo cataract surgery and the eye doctor able to restore some sight.
He loves outings in his stroller, especially if lunch is involved. He is a fan favorite at all his local haunts. 😊❤️

Max recently came in to Rescue with eye issues. This little nugget has had a couple of busy days. First he went to a regular vet for vaccines, heartworm test and a f***l. Luckily, he did not test positive for heartworms but he does have intestinal worms. They also checked out his eyes and recommended that he see an ophthalmologist. We were lucky to get him scheduled just a few days later.
The eye doctor said that he is blind in one eye but does have some sight in the other eye. However, because he is also “wall-eyed”, that impacts his vision as well. The main cause of his sight issues is from having suffered from untreated eye ulcers in the past. HOWEVER, it does not slow down this ball of energy!
Next up is his neuter surgery. In the meantime, he is thoroughly enjoying playtime with the other pups in his foster home. ❤️

Your donations will help dogs like Dozier Jackson, one of the dogs that came in to rescue in April. He tested positive for heartworms and was diagnosed by a cardiologist with pulmonary hypertension caused by the presence of the heartworms. He is going through heartworm treatment and we will have to wait to neuter him for about 1 month post treatment.
From his Foster Mom: Dozier came to me as one of the Jackson 16 and was one of the most scared and skittish of them all. When I first got him, I was given his leash and he was trying to run away already, and I thought to myself: Now what?
However, he quickly befriended my two boxer girls. But didn't know what to be a dog was. He didn't know toys, dog bed, play time, nothing. But slowly he started to follow my girls and explore the house. The first thing he grabbed as a toy was one of my socks. I couldn't even get mad at him, I was so proud.

He is still very skittish and suspicious about new people and places. He won't let people come to him without shaking and freezing. But he's getting there. Slowly making friends.

He is being treated for heartworm disease. He also has pulmonary hypertension (doctor is hoping that it will get better once heartworm disease is treated). So he can't play much (exercise restriction), which is sad because he is making new doggie friends. But it will happened soon enough.

He doesn't know how to cuddle much yet, but he will come to you and lick you and wants to know what you are doing. He sleeps well, and snoooooores sooooo much. He will keep you up at night with his snoring but he is perfect in his own little way.

Yet another success story…. Here is what Rosie’s mom had to say about her experience with adopting through BTRFL!

We adopted Rosie (formerly Sable) in January of 2023 from your fantastic rescue. She is the perfect little sister for our now 9 year old human daughter. They have been best friends since the moment we met Rosie. Our daughter even has plans to bring Rosie to college some day. They go everywhere they can together. Rosie has brightened our lives with her cuteness and silly personality. We are so grateful to everyone who helped match us, transport her, and her former family who took such great care of her. She is super loved and the center of all of our attention. Thank you BTRFL!

We need all of our current fosters help! If you are fostering for us currently, and have time to send me a single picture and a short paragraph on your foster, please reach out!

What I’m looking for: A cute, clear pic of your foster child. Can be outside, inside, head shot, etc… just a clear pic.
I also need a short paragraph on how your foster was when you got him/her…. His/her current medical problems, and even a quirky funny habit.

This is for a fundraiser for our rescue!

Please either dm the rescue or you can email me directly: [email protected]

I need these asap. Thank you!

I know she’ll be so happy when this heartworm treatment is behind her.

BTRFL Alum “Ziggy Moo” Update!
From his Adopter: We adopted Ziggy almost a year ago, and are soooo happy we did! He’s really playful, funny, sweet, smart, and snuggly - not to mention super cute! My 7-year-old son absolutely adores him, and all of the kids in our neighborhood love him too. I cannot even begin to explain how perfectly this boy fits our family and how much we love him! Thank you BTRFL!!!

Backstory: Ziggy Moo and his two siblings (Mitzy and Kia Moo) were born while in rescue after their pregnant Mom (Izzy Moo) was surrendered to BTRFL. While Mom is a Boston Terrier, Dad's breed is unknown but looks likely to be a Dachshund

What a happy Winston update! He had a follow up with Blue Pearl yesterday with x-rays and his surgeon was so happy to see that the fracture was completely healed! He will have a titanium plate and screws in his leg for life, due to the fragile nature of those bones, but he’s doing well. He’s in the physical therapy portion of his healing, and he’s rocking that. Still no final adoption medical clearance date, but we will keep you posted.

If you feel like you are able to donate towards his medical bills, or any of our amazing dogs in rescue right now, please head to www.bostonrescueflorida.org/donate
The link is also in our bio. Thank you!

Titan Zuko Pavlak was adopted March 30, 2019 and has been the best part of our family ever since! I always wanted a Boston Terrier and the process we went through with BTRFL was so thorough and seamless. They found the absolute best baby for our family and we have spent the last five years wondering how we functioned without his sweet self. I can never thank BTRFL enough for the care they provided Titan and how attentive they were during the transition. From late night emails to advice on training and navigating Titan to a new home, we were never alone and HAD THE BEST EXPERIENCE!
Thank you so much for giving this boy the best life ever! We appreciate our adopters and fosters so much here at BTRFL. ❤️

We have more heartbreaking news about The Jackson 16 Bostons.
From Bentley Jackson’s Foster Mom: “Bentley Jackson, known in our house affectionally as "Miss B," passed away this morning. She was an amazing friend.

Bentley came to us--like so many of you know--in late April as part of the "Jackson" rescue. She was terrified, panting uncontrollably, and horribly dirty and smelly (even though she'd already been bathed twice before.) She thought dirt was her means of sustenance.

Slowly, she began to trust my husband and me. She had many firsts in our house: learning to enjoy being inside, learning to jump from the couch, the wonder of Velveeta cheese, the magic of chicken, and the brain-freezing delight of the "pup cup" from Twisty Treat. She was so loved in our home. We thought she was a warrior.

Despite North Orange Animal Hospital's best efforts, she ran to the rainbow bridge. Although we will miss her terribly, I am so unbelievably grateful she will not suffer any longer. She will run, and jump, and eat chicken to her heart's delight.

Words cannot express my sincerest gratitude to the Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida for their efforts with these babies. For three months, I think Miss B finally got to know that there are humans out there who really, really care. From Kelly Zuchinsky, to all the staff at BTRFL, to Dr. Chad Bearden from NOAH, to all the staff at NOAH, and so many, many others who made this rescue possible, all these dogs get to know that real love and affection exists.

I will miss her terribly, but I will forever keep her in my heart.”

ELLIE BEAN and IDA PUPDATE- From foster home with Zoey (The Bo**er) PruittSmith:
We all went for walkies on my path tonight! Ellie Bean is doing SOOOOO GOOD🙌 She actually had a good trot going, it’s the fastest we’ve ever seen the little sloth go EVER! Hurricane Ida had a nice calm walk. She’s doing real good with her heartworm treatment but starting Monday it’s going to be rough on her cos her first shot is due and she’ll have to be kept super calm. That will be a challenge, her knickname isn’t Hurricane for nothing ☺️. Sadie had the zoomies , my front left elbow is doing better for now and Mr. Tate is his normal jolly self.

Let me reintroduce BTRFL Alum: Luna! She was adopted 9 years ago. Her family has this to say: Luna is the love of our lives! We were told that she was born with a broken leg and thank heavens BTRFL was able to save her. She will be 10 in October and she still acts like a puppy. She’s very toy driven… loves to play soccer with her ball and chase her frisbee. She’s a very picky eater, unfortunately, but that’s probably mostly our fault. We treat her like our baby now that our human babies are on their own. We often bribe her to eat with peanut butter and fresh chicken we cook just for her!

Successfully stories like these make all the long days/nights of rescue so very worth it. Thank you to Luna’s family for taking such amazing care of this sweet girl!

20/07/2024

It saddens me to have to make this post but there are a few people that are hell bent on taking down this rescue due to personal reasons. First and Foremost, we have only take dogs from fosters twice in the history of this rescue. Unfortunately we had to do this last week. The dog in question is Diesel Dan. There is some talk about how I did not want to take this dog into rescue because he had behavioral issues and that is an out and out lie. I did not want him to go to the foster that the intake coordinator chose due to the regional location and the vet care in that area. I would also like to point out that Amy Hart was only a foster, this was not her dog. The dog is in the name of BTRFL. This dog tested positive for heartworms, we felt it was in his best interest to be moved to a quiet home where he could receive his treatments and recover with no stress. We also found out this dog was involved in a bit incident that happened in the fosters home and was quarantined by animal control until 7/19, the incident happened on 7/9 and the foster did not tell us about this until approx 1 hour after we took possession of the dog on 7/18. This was all confirmed with the supervisor of Animal Control yesterday. Again this dog belongs to the rescue and we should have been notified immediately but we were not. We had been working with Amy on some other issues and it was difficult to say the least, we felt we had no other choice than to take the dog the way we did. Taking Dan has nothing to do with getting our store merchandise back from her, that issue has been resolved. We had to release Amy Hart as a volunteer from the rescue at the start of this, she had access to all of our systems and we saw where this was headed. We had to do this to protect the rescue. As you can see by all of this unnecessary drama it was the right thing to do. Amy Hart has threatened to wage a social media war against us. These two women are hell bent on spreading lies and telling half truths. I have said this 100 times and I will say it again, I am more than willing to have a conversation with anyone and provide any necessary documentation to back this up, all of it not snip its that can be misconstrued. Again two sides to every story. Our mission is to help dogs in need an doing what is best for them. Clearly Amy Hart and Betty Casey are not.
Again, I am truly sorry for the actions of our past volunteers and wish to thank all of our adopters, followers and dedicated volunteers for the time and effort that has gone into saving the lives of so many dogs.
