In Memoriam โ Former NJVMA President passes, aged 100
Calvin Moon, VMD, DABVP (1924-2024)
Dr. Calvin Moon, VMD, DABVP, graduated from Rutgers University (BS โ Agricultural Research) and the University of Pennsylvania (1952). During WWII (1943-1946), Dr. Moon delayed his studies and bravely served his country as a Petty Officer First Class Radar Operator on the USS Razorback Submarine.
Dr. Moon began his veterinary career at Wood Veterinary Hospital and later founded Hamilton Veterinary Hospital. He also helped establish Columbus Central Veterinary Hospital, where he served as the medical director for 20 years.
As a lifetime resident of New Jersey and former NJVMA President (1970-1971), he was an active member of his community, receiving special awards and actively participating in numerous groups, associations, and societies.

NJVMA mourns the loss of two veterinary icons.
Dr. Robert P Gordon, DVM, MPH (1949-2024)
Dr. Gordon was born in Paterson, NJ, and received his veterinary degree from the University of Bologna. He worked at Meisels Animal Hospital and then purchased Oakland Animal Hospital in 1977. In the days following September 11, 2021, he volunteered to care for the search-and-rescue dogs at Ground Zero. Dr. Gordon was a past president of NJVMA, a former board member for the Atlantic Coast Veterinary Conference, a former NJVMA delegate to AVMA, and the Chair of the AVMF.

Dr. Carolyn G Self, DVM (1944-2024)
Dr. Self was a graduate of Tuskegee Universityโs College of Veterinary Medicine. When she began working at Collingswood Veterinary Hospital, she became one of the first black female veterinarians to practice in southern New Jersey. Dr. Self was a member of the NJVMA Board of Directors, NJ Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, and the AVMA.
