Katahdin Kennel is originally from the mid-coast region of Maine and is named after the area’s largest mountain. My family and I moved from my home state to Missouri in 2014 where we have continued raising and breeding our Belgian Tervuren companions. We currently have three females, two silver and one red/mahogany, and one red male who are treated first and foremost as family and companion dogs.

I plan to keep our breeding program small so all dogs are raised in a healthy social environment and treated with adequate nurture and contact. All puppies are raised in the same manner and socialized from day one. We treat each one as a member of our family until he or she is ready to move on to a permanent home. We strive for healthy, well rounded and structurally sound Tervurens with our focus on an even tempered family dog. Our dogs are carefully selected with clear backgrounds, sound temperaments and quality confirmation, with most from champion lines. Belgians are a very versatile dog and are able to perform in a wide range or areas! Many of our puppies go on to do excel in therapy work, rally, flyball, herding, ski, bicycle and sledding activities and on and on! Stryker is a very darkly accented red male with lush coat and excellent structure. His father is a dark silver imported from Romania and mother a beautiful red with imported parents from Australia. He is highly intelligent, very gentle and openly loving with an eagerness to please. Stryker has been OFA tested for clear hips and elbows. He weighs just about 70 pounds. Mystique is our first ever silver Tervuren and our retired girl, Pearl’s, daughter. Both her grandparents on Pearl’s side are international champions with one imported from the Czech Republic. Her coat is beautifully silver with abundant black accenting. She has a gentle and calm personality like her mother and long, thick fur with dark masking. She and Styker make some stunning puppies of both colors! She is around 60 pounds. Our other silver female, Sapphire, is out of two silver parents, but produces a mix of reds and silvers when paired with Stryker. She is a half sister of Mystique with a loving, tender eagerness to please like that of our male, Stryker. She is very sensitive, affectionate and receptive to training. She is our avid guard dog and keeps a close look out for anything new in the area. She weighs around 60 pounds. Akira, our beautiful red female, is the newest addition to the family and I am very excited for her future! She is highly intelligent, quick to learn and eager to follow my direction. She has a nice pedigree of “old style” Belgians with beautiful strong features, lush coats and wolf-like heads. I fell in love with Belgian Shepherds as a teenager the first time a saw a Belgian Groenendael at a dog show. I discovered the Tervurens shortly after and loved their rich color diversity rather than the solid black coat of the Groenendael. I was able to attain my dream of owning one of the majestic dogs myself in 2009 with the purchase of Saber. I brought home Ivey the following year and the rest is history! Yesterday was a hard one, and I don't have a lot of words right now. Our eldest girl, the one who started it all, and walked with me for 14 and a half years was laid to her final rest. I'll always love you, Katahdin's Wild Ivey. ❤️😥
