Most of us rarely do this but if you do – my hat’s off to you! Do a Head-to-Tail Checkup every week – Devote a hands-on petting session to scrutinize your cat’s entire body, looking for lumps, bumps, sore spots, or changes in fur and skin. Do not forget their eyes, ears, and mouth. Your observations may help to catch a medical problem in its early stages.

TIP TUESDAY – Turn the cat carrier into a comfy hideaway. If you take out the carrier only right before each dreaded visit to the vet, your cat will associate it with something she finds unpleasant. Leave it out all the time with a soft blanket and a couple of favorite toys inside, and she will consider it a special lounging area. You won’t be chasing her around the house at those times that you have to get her into the car.

Today is Change a Pet’s Life Day was created to encourage pet adoption. Hundreds of shelters participate by offering reduced adoption rates. Check out your favorite Cat Adoption Shelter for any event in January. The holidays are over, the “pick a cat” gift trees are down, people tend to forget there are still a lot of wonderful cats waiting to be adopted. Do not forget those Senior cats!
