What are flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives, and why are they important?
Fleas, ticks, and mosquitos can carry and transmit diseases, which is why preventing infection is important. Preventatives are types of medication that can be safely and routinely given to kill any fleas or ticks on your animals and prevent transmission of deadly diseases.
Fleas commonly cause tapeworm infections and skin infections, whereas common tick-borne diseases can include anaplasmosis, Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and more. Mosquitos can spread heartworm disease which can have devastating effects.
It is important to use veterinary recommended products to protect your cat. We do not recommend over the counter flea collars and would like to remind you to NEVER use products designed for dogs on your cats.
