Important notes about shelter hours:

Fridays: The shelter closes early the last Friday of the month. Saturdays: When the Howard County Government offices are closed on a Friday, the shelter will be closed that Saturday

. When the Howard County Government offices are closed on a Monday, the shelter is closed the preceding Saturday.

C41827 Melody is a beautiful, orange tabby. She is only 11 months old and has a wonderful personality. She is sweet, cuddles with you and likes to run around and chase toys. She can get overly excited sometimes when you pet her in certain places. She would enjoy a tall cat tree by a window for basking in the sunshine. She especially likes when you crinkle a ball of paper. She will chase it if you toss it.

M41865 Bubbles is a sweet, male Guinea Pig who is only 1yr old. He is curious and likes to explore boxes or tunnels that you give him. He likes his daily time out of his cage and after playtime, he will settle in for a snack and then a nap on your lap. Bubbles does not get along with other male Guinea Pigs.

M41853 Norman the Turtle is an awesome pet. He is an adult, male Yellow Belly Slider. He comes swimming over to see you when you walk by. He enjoys swimming around his 50 gallon tank. Norman likes to warm up under his basking light after a swim. He has a funny personality and is curious, following you around for treats. Come on by during our Animal Viewing Hours to meet him.

Gia 41834: Gia is a gorgeous 2 year old female German Shepherd. Gia is food motivated and aims to please. Fun loving and social, Gia gets along with larger and smaller dogs at the shelter. She is vocal in the kennel, she is not recommended for apartments, condos, or townhomes. She would also appreciate a large fenced in yard for exercise.

D41808 Blaze is a super sweet, Lab mix who just turned 11 months old. He is ready to learn his puppy manners and he loves his people. Blaze knows sit and give paw. He melts when you pet him and he is a cuddler. Blaze likes to play with other female dogs. He has times that he is unsure, but if you just talk to him in a sweet voice, he comes right over to be with you. Blaze is vocal when he is left alone so no apartments/condos/townhomes for this guy. If you are looking for a fun family dog, come on by to meet this sweet boy. Since he is still learning his basic puppy manners, he needs to be supervised around children so he doesn’t knock them over saying hi to them.

M41699 Peanut is such a sweetheart. He has an affectionate personality and likes when you carry him around. He likes to be around gentle people. Peanut is 5yrs old and his eyes appear a little different so we are not sure how well he sees. Peanut is cute and likes to have a hut for sleeping and a pile of hay for foraging. He plays with his hanging toy and his favorite treat is a piece of green bean.

C41625 Coco is an affectionate sweetheart who likes to talk to you with her cute meow. She is only 3yrs and will relax in your arms for a nap. During playtime, Coco likes spring toys and she will chase your bottle caps too. Coco is smart and it doesn’t take much coaxing to get her to come over to say hi. She likes to have a safe area with a hiding spot for her nap time. She would be comfortable in a quiet home.

REMINDER: We will have modified hours tomorrow,THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2023 to allow our staff to attend a special Howard County event, the annual Civilian Picnic.

We will be open for business from 8am to 11am and 2:30pm-5pm.
Animal Viewing will be from 10am-11am and 2:30pm- 4:30pm.

Please visit our Amazon wishlist and help us stock the PET FOOD BANK. We are getting more requests than usual and we are really low on kitten food, and dry dog food at the moment. Your donations help us keep animals in their homes when their owners are struggling to provide for them. We are also asking for Kong toys to provide enrichment for the shelter dogs.

WE LOVE HAPPY ENDINGS! One of our favorite dogs, Kota is in her forever home and thriving. After 137 Days, 3,288 hours, 197,280 minutes Kota was adopted and is now living her best life. As much as we will miss having her around the front desk, and sneaking away for a ride to the drive-thru to share french fries and our Sunday afternoon drives, we are thrilled that she is happy and spending her days playing with her new owner, enjoying her friends at doggy daycare, and her Rottie "cousin" who she gets to play with. We really enjoy the updates from her new owner and wish Kota well in her forever home.

Skunk 41708: Skunk is a 3 year old male Guinea Pig. Skunk has a gorgeous coat that will need to be maintained with frequent brushing. Skunk is on the shy side and is still getting used to being handled. Once he is in your arms, you can talk gently to him to get him to relax. Be sure to stop by the shelter during animal viewing hours to meet and apply on Skunk!

Pumpkin 41700: Pumpkin is a 5 year old male Guinea Pig. Pumpkin is a nice little guy and is getting used to being handled. Pumpkin may take a moment or two to warm up to you and will need a patient owner to help socialize him. Stop by the shelter during animal viewing hours if you are interested in Pumpkin!

Peanut 41699: Peanut is a friendly 5 year old Guinea Pig. Peanut is wiggly, but will settle in your arms if you are confident and speak gently to him. Peanut is noise sensitive and well do best in a quitter home with older children. Visit the shelter during animal viewing hours to meet Peanut!

Gracey 41626 and Mary 41627: Gracey and Mary are a bonded pair of 3 year old parakeets. Gracey and Mary and not hand tamed and will need a patient owner that will work on socializing them. These pretty birds are in search of their forever home after their previous owner had to surrender them to the shelter due to an unexpected move. Parakeets are excellent pets for those looking for an avian pet. Stop b y the shelter during animal viewing hours to meet and apply on Gracey and Mary!

Cubby is a neutered male, 10yr Australian Cattle dog mix who is very loyal to his person. You would not guess his age when you meet him. He really enjoys going for walks and likes to run too. He knows sit, down and gives his paw with a simple request for it. He is a great dog. He even knows how to smile on command!!! Please open your heart to this senior.

Marigold is still looking for a new home. She is a very sweet pig and smart!

***UPDATE - ADOPTED!!!******😊😊😊 C22988 This is Missy, a spectacular young cat about 1 yr old. She is outgoing and social. She follows you around like a dog and even comes when you call her. She is great with other cats that she has met. She is very curious and goes right up to say hi. She even backed off when one cat hissed at her. Missy saw a little dog and boy did she brighten up. She chirped at him and reached her little paws through her cage door to get his attention. As you can see in her video she walked around with this dog like she was his best buddy. This is truly an amazing cat! Missy has a cute round head similar to a Bombay cat. Missy likes to explore and would enjoy cat trees for climbing and playing.

Meet Lucy, an 11 year old Chihuahua up for adoption....she is so cute and loves her blanket.
