There have been four confirmed cases of rabies in Greene County in the last year, with the most recent case just this month. Rabies is transmitted when saliva or brain tissue of an infected animal is introduced into the body of a healthy person or animal. Exposure can occur through a bite, scratch or contact with infected saliva to open wounds or mucous membranes such as the eyes, nose or mouth. The virus is most prevalent in skunks and bats. This World Rabies Day, make sure you are taking proper precautions around wildlife. Read more on the Healthy Ozarks blog https://healthyozarks.medium.com/rabid-news-a-bat-tests-positive-8fa0cf31956c

Lucy the Great Pyrenees / Anatolian Shepherd Mix needs a home. She is two years old, weighs 92 #, is spayed and is currently living in Branson MO.
She was picked up By Taney County as a stray. She is adored by her veterinarian and the Doggy Day Care people. Lucy gets along well with other dogs and puppies, but will not back down to an aggressive dog. She is comfortable inside and loves to be outside, roams if allowed, but returns home. She is smart and has taken well to training. She is treat motivated but shows no food guarding behavior.
If you, or someone you know is interested in Lucy, please let me know. Thank you.

Looks like there's lots more cold weather in the forecast this week! ☃️💨 All dogs and cats can experience hypothermia, but those with short coats, very young, and senior pets are especially susceptible. What action can you take if you find a hypothermic animal?

❄ Know the signs of hypothermia: shivering that eventually stops, muscle stiffness, confusion, difficulty walking, and pale gums can all indicate a drop in core body temperature.

❄ Call the vet! Severely hypothermic pets will need medical intervention and more aggressive warming techniques.

❄ Wrap the pet up. Use warm and dry blankets, towels, coats, etc. to wrap them snugly, tucking in feet and ears when possible. Avoid direct sources of heat like hot water bottles or heating pads. When applied directly to the pet, these can cause burns.

❄ Warming up gradually is key! Too rapid a change in temperature can shock the animal's organs and lead to failure.

Remember to bundle up pets that are going outside for more than a few minutes. Coats, sweaters, and booties are all great options, especially for pets with short coats. Keep pets inside whenever possible and make sure that outdoor animals have a dry shelter.

Winston the english bulldog is looking for a forever home. He is 3.5 years old and his owner cannot give him proper care due to the owner's medical issues. Winston is a snuggler/cuddler with people, but doesn't do well with other dogs. He doesn't seem to mind cats, though. If interested, please contact me.
