This horse has an extensive medical history which includes, irreversible soft tissue and nerve damage of the right shoulder.
Despite permanent changes to his weight bearing, posture and gait, he sure does grow some gorgeous feet

This limb promises to be an excellent teaching tool during the practical portion of our clinic at Not Forgotten Farm, LLC September 14th!
Our clinic is right around the corner! If you are a horse owner or equine enthusiast curious about applying hoof casting, look no further!
Hoof casting is a simple and effective way to build hoof wall, add vertical height and solar protection. It has many uses for both the shod and barefoot horse.
During the practical portion of our clinic, participants will get to see how hoof casts are applied followed by the opportunity to practice for themselves under the guide of myself and fellow farrier
We look forward to seeing everyone September 14th!

New client: first appointment before and after’s.
While this isn’t the most esthetic shoeing (darn blister packs were giving me hell) I am very pleased with the functional improvements for this TB.
I was able to trim out much of the mediolateral and heel-toe distortions before applying a Hanton shoe with a 3Dhoofcare pad for frog support and load sharing. In the after photos you may note the phalangeal alignment improvement, caudal decompression and support and postural improvements of the limb.
I look forward to seeing her progress during our next shoeing.

Last Thursday, I had the privilege of giving an in depth talk to the Virginia 4H State team about several equine pathologies. After a brief overview of the skeletal and soft tissue anatomy of the limb, we discussed Laminitis, White Line Disease and Sidebone. Thank you Lisa for inviting me to speak to this talented group of young people!
This week, I went to the Goddard School to speak to 25 kiddos ages ranging from 6-12. We talked about the history of the horse, how we identify horses off of size, color and markings, different riding disciplines, how horses communicate through body language and finally, discussed different careers with horses with a special emphasis on farriery! These kids were an absolute blast! I think one of their favorite parts was naming my cadaver limb Penelope 😂

Horse owner education at Not Forgotten Farm
Scott Sullivan and I had a blast teaching at Not Forgotten Farm, LLC last weekend! Lecture topics included: anatomy- soft tissue and skeletal, conformation vs posture, biomechanics of the limb, review of case studies and more! After lunch, attendees worked with farrier tools on cadaver limbs, pulled shoes and participated in a dissection. On Day 2, two horses were brought in for live trimming. Thank you to Will and Jodie for hosting and to those that attended!
Clients that you can have a great time with, who also happen to spoil you with your favorite flavor of cupcake, are truly the best! I may not be Irish but I still got the cupcakes 😂 Thank you Kal Loveless Gin Lot Farms
We are looking forward to another excellent educational opportunity! If you are in the Virginia area and want to attend, you can register at notforgottenfarm.brushfire.com. See you there!

Happy New Year!!
There are many reasons a good standing horse is necessary for successful farrier work.
Shout out to all of the wonderful horses in this video and their owners, my clients, who make sure I stay safe and their horses stand well.
