I have a lot to be thankful for these days. But the biggest of them all is that my parents’ house was spared from the massive fire that consumed the shop and my grandma’s apartment not 40 feet away. Hearts will be heavy at the table this year as we think about all that was lost, but relieved at all we still have.

‘I just bathed him last week!’

Did ye, aye? 🤦🏻‍♀️

I always ask my clients to bath their horse the day before clipping (this is to allow for adequate drying time).
Most of my clients are booked in around 2-4 weeks in advance, so that’s plenty of time to organise bathing your horse!

But really, why should your horse be as clean as possible for clipping? 🤨

• To prevent dirt, grease, mud, grit etc blunting blades super quickly, causing them to snag and pull on your horse’s hair.

• To look after the clipper motors - dirty hair and blunt blade will put excess strain on the motor, which will cause damage, and an expensive repair bill.

• To make is as comfortable an experience as possible for the horse - hair snagging HURTS.

• To get the smoothest, most flawless, perfect clip possible.
Dirt = lines and patches.
Clippers are perfectionists, it upsets us to leave you with a sub-standard clip.

• To avoid a ‘dirty horse’ surcharge from your professional clipper, or a repair bill for damaged equipment.

We hate clipping the horse like this, we hate what it does to our equipment, we hate charging more money.

Bath your horse.

You ever fall in love with your own work? Lines are crisp 👌

Endurance style trace clip and first body clip on Paco the arab. That winter cushings coat came in for the first time and his owner got him exactly what he needed to stay comfortable on his rides.

‘The clip hasn’t lasted long at all!’

The change in daylight hours is what triggers the winter coat change and growth -
In the UK, horse’s coats tend to start changing from (roughly) early September and can continue to grow in reasonably quickly through to the winter solstice, at which point the coat growth will slow down.

You’ll find that clips between September-December don’t ’last as long’ as clips done in the New Year. This is because the winter coat is continually growing until the solstice.
Natives/cobs/heavies tend to be on the hairier side, so some may need clipped every 4 weeks (give or take) if you want to keep them neat.
Whereas warmblood/TB/finer types may only need clipped 2/3 times over the whole winter, as they tend to grow a finer coat.

This is a rough guide, not a set in stone rule!
Every horse is different, and there are a lot of factors to consider -
• Age
• Breed
• Coat type (thick/fine/dense/long…)
• Health (Cushing’s Disease, EMS etc)
• Weight
• Workload
• Routine (in/out)
• Or, just like people - they can be hairy/not so hairy, no matter what the breed of horse is!

How often do you clip your horse? Tell me their breed etc and why you chose to do it as often as you do!

Your 2024/2025 Price List and Details
I only changed the year 😉

Things to take note of:
- A reminder that cash is HEAVILY preferred over venmo. I will not accept paypal.
-Presentation expectations. CLEAN. DRY. Bathed the day before? Fantastic. Didn’t blanket overnight? Your appointment will be cancelled and you will be charged a $50 travel and reschedule fee. Have a wooly mammoth? Get some good water pressure going and blast that dirt out from under that thick coat.
-Behavior expectations. Remember that I am a stranger to your horse and that they may not tolerate me clipping them versus you. I may ask you to assist; this will not affect pricing. Don’t know how your horse will react? Have sedation on hand. Clipping a drunk horse is FAR easier and faster than a wiggle worm, and will save everyone involved the pain and frustration of trying to get it done. “But my horse is just opinionated.” I don’t care. I like not having broken bones.

Well hi everybody!! Boy have I been busy both clipping and on my own ranch. This message is a little over due since we are already well into fall clipping season, but! You’ll all be happy to hear that prices are not changing AT ALL this 2024/2025 season!! Woohoo!!

It was great seeing all of my regulars again last season, and I look forward to seeing you and your ponies again, as well as all the folks who have requested to be put on the books for winter/spring already(tentatively of course).

Much love from me and my mini monsters 😁 Always accepting new clients.

This morning’s clip was on Warmblood c**t Utrecht to get him looking spiffy for his KWPN inspection at the end of the month. This guy was born a wooly bear and it was not letting go quite quick enough so he had his appointment with the barber(me😂).

A heads up for everybody! I am not scheduling clips or replying to messages during the week of August 13-20 because I will be at the 2024 AERC National Championships at the Outback Station in La Pine where I will be crewing for my Whoop Ass Unicorn team! I expect I will have little to no cell service so I will get back to you as soon as I am able!

Cushings horses often need year round care. Rio got hooked up with just about a full body clip, leaving the face, and lower leg for fly protection. He had the classic dense hair of a cushings horse but now he is set for the rest of summer!

Tonight, I am holding Layla, Max, Darlene Merlich, and all their crew in my heart after the tragic accident at Tevis today. There are no words I can say to express the weight of their loss. I can say that Layla was one hell of a mare and Max is the best person to have guided her through their racing career together.
Max is safe.
Rest easy Layla, one of the best.

Layla is Tevis ready! This will be Max’s 4th Tevis ride and we are hoping it’ll be his 2nd finish. Go team!!
