What a great day here at VAH…we got to work with some animals that we never see thanks to Krissy Hamilton with Freedom Ranch Wildlife Center for bringing them in for us to take care of. We had a turkey vulture named Amelia checking to make sure she didn’t have lead poisoning, luckily she doesn’t appear to have it, but upon X-ray we did notice that she had been shot. With time and rehab she should make a full recovery! We had a hedgehog named Rosie for a toe nail trim…she was angry at first but warmed up well. Her belly was so soft. We had a chinchilla named Harvey that presented with an abscess on his back. Abscess was lanced and treated and he will recover perfectly! You guys should check out the awesome work Krissy and her sister Mindy do to educate the public about these magnificent creatures we are so lucky to share this earth with! It was an absolute pleasure Krissy!

“The monster must DIE!” At least, that’s what I imagined the Chow mix was thinking as she launched herself at the vacuum cleaner, growling and snapping as if she were taking on a zombie horde. I cued the owner to shut off the machine. “You’re right,” I nodded. “She hates the vacuum cle...

Bring up the subject of dog parks to a group of dog trainers and watch their heads explode. You’ll get a slew of opinions, most unfavorable. While I confess I have occasionally rolled my eyes at the topic, I don’t hate dog parks. They can be a good place for some dogs to run off steam and make f...
