Who's ready for a 4th of July celebration?? 🎆
Don't forget, it is important to plan for your pets' 4th of July experience as well, and I don't just mean making sure you have enough hot dogs 🌭 to share with your pup at the barbecue!

Even though you may enjoy having your pup tag along with you for events and outings, the 4th of July is a time to leave your pet secured and in the comfort of their own home!
Shelters see the HIGHEST number of lost dogs & intakes on and around the 4th of July than ANY other time of year.

Why is this? Dogs are MUCH more sensitive to noise, and fireworks may not only be scary for dogs, they can be painful for their eardrums! Fireworks are unpredictable and can be very scary and confusing for dogs, causing them to trigger a dog's fight or flight response, causing them to FLEE, as they believe they are fleeing FROM the fireworks.

We want your pets to be safe and comfortable over the holiday, and we have a few tips for you to ensure just that!

⭐️ Do NOT leave your pets outside. Dogs will jump or dig under fences, even if they have never done this in the past. They believe they are doing everything they can to remove themselves from the scary fireworks, and are likely to attempt to flee.
⭐️ Set your pet up with a COZY space! Whether that be in your bedroom, or their favorite room in the house. Turn on a sound machine, or dog calming music on Youtube. Make sure your pets' favorite toys and blankets are nearby. 🙂
⭐️ Thunder/Anxiety coats are also very helpful in keeping your pets calm, especially if your pet is prone to being fearful of loud noises.
⭐️ Provide an enrichment activity for your pet, or a way to keep them distracted.
⭐️ Give them plenty of exercise (in the morning!). If they have had stimulation and exercise early in the day, they are more likely to rest in the evening. And you definitely don't want to get caught out walking your dog while there are fireworks going on in the neighborhood, so ensure you walk your dog earlier in the day.
⭐️ Talk with your vet! You and your vet may decide that anxiety medication is necessary for your pet.
⭐️ You may opt for a more natural calming agent, such as a CBD calming treat, which you can buy at most pet stores or online.
⭐️ If you are shooting off fireworks in your own yard, please ensure all debris and trash is cleaned up before allowing your dog to access the yard.

Piper enjoying a nice *short* walk on this hot & sun-shiney day! 🌞You may have noticed shortened outdoor time for your walks this week. With the rising temps, in order to ensure both your pup & our walkers are safe, we may shorten the duration of outside time with your pups. However, this means extra indoor enrichment and playtime! Does your pup have a favorite toy or indoor activity? Let us know so we can best care for your pup on the hot days!

Leaving a cold water or Gatorade for your walker on these hot days is also much appreciated! Stay cool out there friends, and keep your fur babies' paws off the asphalt! 🙂
