While only the dogs will be allowed in the water, we encourage everyone to come out and watch the fun. Dog owners can bring up to two dogs to the dive-in. Dogs

34 dogs on this week’s euthanasia list at PG County’s municipal animal shelter. Almost 75% of them are labeled as “pit bull type”.

If the county’s pit bull ban was working, wouldn’t there be FEWER pit bull type dogs?

Why must PG County taxpayers pay to impound, house, treat, feed AND KILL these dogs again and again?

PG streets are no safer, the shelter is constantly overcrowded, and it’s costing $$$ with no improvement. FOR OVER 30 YEARS.

If you live in PG County, tell your elected representatives to spend your money more responsibly and more humanely. (Photo list from PB Proud)

The local animal rescue community lost a wonderful soul this week. Yvonne Thibault-Curry has labored tirelessly for years helping area animals, especially at the county shelter. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to her family and all who loved her.

We’ve been getting lots of questions about the sad events at the shelter yesterday (reported in the post below from another rescue group) and unfortunately, some people have been confused about our group’s identity and mission. We are an all-volunteer group working to improve the lives of the county’s animals. We try to work with the Animal Services Division, but we do not run the PG County animal shelter. We encourage all who are concerned to contact the County Executive (Angela Alsobrooks) and your County Council representative.

One Lee County family wants everyone to think twice before taking a puppy home. Now, they're taking the store they got theirs from to court.

We mourn with Jon for all the good boys (and girls) we’ve loved and lost. And especially for all the dogs (and cats) who don’t have a safe home.

Good news in Upper Marlboro today.

The Prince George's County Animal Shelter (Prince George’s County Animals Services Facility and Adoption Center or ASFAC) will reopen to the public during regular hours on Saturday, January 20, 2024. This marks ten days from the last emergence of symptoms reported due to Streptococcus Zooepidemicus, also known as Strep Zoo. The facility has been closed since January 4, when the illness began impacting dogs.

Veterinary medical professional expertise continues to drive operations and best practices at ASFAC in reducing the spread of bacterial respiratory infections while providing much-needed pet services to the community.

For more information on adopting or fostering a pet, contact (301) 780-7200 or visit www.princegeorgespets4us.com.

Making a Difference for Local Animals

For more than 40 years, our all-volunteer group has labored tirelessly to improve the lives of the animals in Prince George’s County. We opened the county’s first low-cost spay/neuter clinic in 2001 and we’ve altered more than 22,000 pets there (most for free) and provided low-cost vaccinations to tens of thousands. We rescue and rehome at-risk dogs and cats from the PG County shelter. We operate a 24-hour hotline for reporting animal cruelty and neglect. We also provide outreach and assistance to the pet-owning community. You can help us make a difference. Adopt. Volunteer. Donate. Speak up. www.pgspca.org, 301-262-5625
