CHANGED TO MON MAY 13th, 9 AM!!! I am no longer selling plants, however, an old friend, Heirloom Joe's Tomatoes, is selling plants Monday, May 13, 9 am, at 8680 S. 50 E. In Sandy. I'm finally planting the garden tomorrow! The soil is plenty warm and the long range forecast is pretty good....except for those early morning mid 40s this weekend! If anyone is still looking for a few plants, I've added a few to the website. https://DianesGarden.com

14/05/2022

The 10-day forecast shows several 40° mornings next weekend so I am not planting my garden until sometime after that. Looks like it might be memorial Day this year.

10/05/2022

I have about 30 more plants for sale. Message if interested.

It's getting closer to tomato planting season! To be sure, dig a tomato planting hole, put your finger into the soil where the roots will be, and if you can comfortably hold it there for a minute, it's time to plant ;)

Anyone planted onions yet? I've started some inside and will try a few in the garden soon.

The first ripe snow leopard honeydew melon! It did not come off the vine but you can tell it's ready because there's a little bit of a crack at the top, and it smells delicious, and notice that some of the former green spots have turned yellow... And the entire melon has gone from white to a mellow yellow. The cantaloupe and charentais are next!

I'm growing five dwarf tomatoes this year and these Dwarf Audrey's Love are the earliest, beautiful, delicious, and productive. I'm growing these in the garden but they are only about 3 ft tall and could easily be grown in containers.

We put up 40% shade cloth for the tomatoes and they are doing well despite the high temps. I'm again self pollinating...tap tap tap and the plants are setting fruit including the bagged flowers (to save seed)! Tomatoes go into survival mode when it's 90 and above and quit setting fruit and if it gets too high they abort fruit and flowers. If you like to tinker with old motors and carburetors this chipper does not work may never work again but needs a new home.

I have not planted tomatoes (or peppers, eggplant, cukes, squash or melons) and am waiting until after next weekend for the temperature to warm (Friday 41 deg or lower) and to avoid the 25-35 mph winds Thurs-Friday! On top of that, my soil is still pretty cold. This is the longest I've ever waited to plant. To wait it out, I repotted some plants and added soil to others (gently breaking up the root balls). Looks like those that predicted Memorial Day for planting were right! I'd recommend covering plants when the weather drops below 50.
